Gothic 1 Remake takes you on a journey in the Valley of the Mines, where a barrier surrounds the Colony, and no living thing can escape it. As a nameless hero in these lands, you’ll have to find a way to break open the barrier that has been standing for a decade. After what happened to the Fire Mages in Chapter 3, Saturas will ask you to find the man called Xardas, the 13th mage in the colony and the former leader of the Fire Mages, who is also called a necromancer.

Joining The Water Mages
After Chapter 3 has ended and you have been kicked out of the Old Camp, you can talk to Saturas to join the New Camp and become a Water Mage.
Saturas will ask you to go and talk to Lee. Lee’s chambers are right next to the Blue Mages. Lee will ask you to go to the beaches on the extreme right of the map. That’s where you’ll find Myxir. You’ll have to help him recover whatever he is after.

To find Myxir, you’ll have to open the map and find the lighthouse where you met with Diego and his friends in Chapter 3.
There will be some shipwrecks near the place, and you’ll find Myxir waiting for you on the path to that location.

You’ll find some fire lizards on the beach, but Myxir can deal with them easily. After that, he’ll ask you to dive deep into the water to look for a shipwreck. When you do that, you’ll find a chest underwater. There will be a book inside the chest.
Bring that book to Myxir. The chest is locked, so you’ll have to manage your oxygen properly to dive into the water and also unlock the chest in time, because if the oxygen bar runs out, it will be game over.

After that, you’ll have to return to Lee, and he’ll make you into an official mercenary. After that, you have to go and talk to Saturas.
He’ll ask you to learn Alchemy and Scroll inscription if you haven’t already. You can learn Alchemy from Riordian, while Merdarion can teach you to make scrolls.

Initiation Into The Circle Of Water
Saturas asks you to find this altar of Adanos, where the rivers meet the sea, and offer a worthy offering to earn his blessing.
Finding the altar can be a challenge, as it’s not easy to spot. You’ll have to head to the north-eastern beaches of the colony, near the shipwrecks.

Once you’re at the beach, you’ll have to swim away from the coast. You’ll then spot the altar as it is partially submerged.
It is recommended to learn the improved diving skill from Homer in the New Camp, as it makes everything a lot easier, but you can manage without it.

You’ll have to dive underwater to enter the altar. Once you reach its depths, you’ll find a room here. There are two cylinders here, one on the left and the other on the right, and both of them are made out of containers.
There’s also a body here with a note on it that mentions “balance.” So, you’ll have to pull the lever on the right until it fills a total of 4 containers on the cylinder. The filled containers will then turn away from you.

Once four of the containers are filled, pull the right lever again to stop the water from going further up. After that, go to the left lever and pull it. This will cause at least 2 containers to fill on the left cylinder.
If you’ve done it right, the flames will turn blue, and the lighting inside the altar will change. You’ll then have to return to Saturas.

Saturas will then accept you as one of the Water Mages and will give you your new robes. You can also learn the circles of magic from Saturas up to the fifth circle.

Xardas’ Tower
Xardas actually has two towers. One of them is the sunken tower, which can be reached by going through the path near the Orc Graveyard. However, to find Xardas, you’ll have to find his new tower, which is in the orc territories.
You can find the tower in the south-western area of the map. It is uncharted, but you can still find a way to get there with the help of the map.

You can also get there by going south of the old camp until you reach Pacho. He’ll warn you about the orc territories ahead, but that’s where you have to go. If you keep following the path, you’ll see a dark tower in the distance.

However, you can’t get to it directly. To reach the tower, you have to find a path to the left of the area, much further away from the tower itself.

The path will lead you straight to the Stone Golem. Stone Golem is immune to blades, so you’ll have to use blunt weapons, such as maces or hammers. Defeat the stone golem and take its heart from its body.

The path will split into two shortly ahead. If you go top, you’ll encounter the Ice Golem. To defeat the ice golem, you should rely on Fire spells, such as Fireball. Defeat the Golem and take its heart.

Now, return to the area where the path splits into two. This time, take the bottom route. This will lead you to Xardas’ tower entrance. You’ll find a strange demon with the ability to speak human language.
The demon will give you a test where you have to bring the cores or hearts of Ice, Fire, and Stone Golems. You’d already have two by this point.

Exit the tower and keep going further ahead. You’ll enter an area filled with lava. Keep following the path, and you’ll encounter the Fire Golem at the end of it.
Use Ice spells, such as Ice Block and Ice Bolt, to easily and quickly defeat the golem. Take its heart and bring it to the demon.

Once you give it all the hearts, the demon will give you a rune stone that allows you to teleport directly to the necromancer, which is Xardas, at the top of the tower.
Use the rune, and you’ll find Xardas at the top. Talk to him, but he’ll tell you that blowing up the ore pile is a bad idea. He’ll ask you to seek out an outcast Shaman Orc near the castle ruins in the south-western area of the map.

Xardas informs you about the Sleeper and that defeating him is the only way to break the barrier. For that, you’ll need Ur-Shak’s help.
From here, you can return to Saturas to inform him of what Xardas said. You can also lie to him. However, if you tell the truth, it will help you a little later on. Furthermore, Xardas can teach you to learn about the sixth circle of magic.

Xardas’ Sunken Tower
Xardas’ Sunken Tower is near the bridge leading to the Orc Graveyard. This tower is completely optional, but you might end up here by mistake or if you’re looking for the Dark Arts Mage Robe.
This tower is completely sunken, and you’ll have to dive deep to get inside it. However, before you do so, you’ll have to get to the top floor of the tower, which is above the water.

You’ll find a chest here, with three elemental scrolls and one of the keys for the depths of the tower. After that, you can enter the tower by diving into the water.
Keep going deeper, and you’ll find many enemies, such as skeletons and zombies.

You’ll eventually reach a locked gate. Here, you have to cast spells of three different elements in order. You can use either the Runes or the scrolls to cast these spells.
First, cast a fire spell, such as Fire Bolt, Fireball, or Rain of Fire. After that, you’ll have to use an ice spell, such as Ice Block. Last, you have to use a wind spell. You can use the Storm Fist spell that you obtained from the chest above the tower. Note that these spells must be cast on the circular platform.

Once you’re inside, you’ll find another gate, but this one opens with two keys. One of the Keystones is the one that you found in the chest above the tower.
For the second keystone, you’ll have to look for the chest in the area. You’ll also find a Rune to teleport back to the Sunken Tower and a Rune to teleport back to the Fire Mages in the Old Camp in the same chest.

Next, you can open the gate with the two tower stones, and you’ll find another chest there. The chest contains a Death to the Undead rune and an Amulet of Stone Skin.

After that, you can go to the main hall at the front. You’ll find a demon here. Defeat the demon, and you’ll be able to obtain the Robes of the Dark Arts, the same as Xardas.

A Shaman Shunned
You can find Ur-Shak in the Old Citadel area. It’s near the fortress where you found the focus stone with Lester.
When you reach the area, Ur-Shak will be attacked by some enemies. He’ll agree to help you out once you defeat all the enemies and tell him about Xardas’ plan.

Ur-Shak will tell you about the Ulu-Mulu, a banner that will allow you to enter the Orcish Enclave, where you’ll find the temple of the Sleeper. However, getting Ulu-Mulu won’t be easy, as you’ll need the remains of many strong beasts.
After you’ve gathered everything for the Ulu-Mulu, you’ll have to seek out the orc called Torrak, who is currently being held captive in the Free Mine. At this point in the story, the Free Mine would already have been raided by Gomez’s men from the Old Camp, and you’ll need the New Camp’s help to get it back, but that will come later.

The Ulu-Mulu
For the Ulu-Mulu, you’ll need to defeat a Swampshark Mother, A Great Shadow Beast, A Great Troll, and a Great Fire Lizard. Each of these enemies will drop an item that will be needed to craft the Ulu-Mulu.

Swampshark Mother
Out of all the targets, the Swampshark Mother is the most challenging to locate. Swampsharks are already incredibly strong enemies to defeat. You’ll need to learn the Fireball spell to deal a chunk of damage to them.
To get to the Swampshark Mother, you’ll first have to head to the Swamp Camp. Head to Caine’s Hut, and you’ll find a path leading further left here. There’s a bridge with a templar standing next to it. There’s also another hallowed log in the water to your left.

From here, jump into the water and go through the hollowed log. From there, follow the wooden planks until you reach a split. You’d also be able to see a treehouse from here.

From the split, go right. Keep going right until the end. You’ll find a body of water here. The Swampshark Mother would be here in the water or on land.

Defeat the Swampshark Mother and take its teeth.

Great Shadow Beast
The Great Shadow Beasts live in the forests and dark caves. You can find multiple of them on the map. There’s one in the forest between the Old Camp and the Swamp Camp, inside a cave.

You can also find one near the Old Mine, near the waterfall, where you had met with Diego and the others with Lester during Chapter 2. You have to defeat only one of them to get the required item.

Great Fire Lizard
The Great Fire Lizard can also be found in at least two locations. You can find one near the beach to the east, where you had to go with Myxir.
There’s another one near Xardas’ tower in the orc territories. Defeat at least one of them and gather its tongue.

Great Troll
You can find a Great Troll in the Troll Canyon, where you had to go retrieve the Focus Stone with Milten.
Defeat the Troll and gather its tusks. If you’ve gathered all of the required items, you can head to the Free Mine to locate Torrak.

Freeing The Free Mine
After you’ve talked to Ur-Shak, if you head to the Free Mine, you’ll find Gorn planning to regain it with a handful of other men.

Gorn will go with you inside the mine, while all of the others will remain to guard outside. Gorn can take care of most of the threats inside the Free Mine, so keep going with him until you’ve defeated all of the Old Camp guards in the mine.
After that, Gorn will part ways with you. However, you’ll still have to look for Torrak. You’ll have to find a path to go deeper into the mines. Keep going until you find a small body of water with a minecrawler.

There’s a path going upward from here, but you’ll have to climb over some platforms. When you get deeper, you’ll find a forge room filled with Mine Crawlers. Defeat them and look for Torrak in the area.

Torrak will then agree to craft the Ulu-Mulu for you. If you haven’t gathered the required items, you can return to him later on, and you’ll find him in the same room here.
Wait around in the area until Torrak is done with the banner. After that, he’ll ask you to fight him and take the Ulu-Mulu from his body. Do that, and you’ll finally get the Ulu-Mulu.

Orc Enclave
After acquiring the Ulu-Mulu, you’ll have to head back to the orc territories, near Xardas’ tower. Here, you’ll find a bridge leading to an orc village. The gate on the bridge will remain closed, but you’ll find Ur-Shak near the bridge.
Talk to Ur-Shak, and he’ll ask you to brandish the Ulu-Mulu on the bridge, and the gates will open. That’s exactly what you have to do here. Once the gate opens, that will bring an end to Chapter 4.
