The Barrier
As the game begins, the Hero is thrown into the barrier with a letter. He’s asked to deliver the letter to the highest Fire Mage in the Old Camp.
However, as soon as the Hero is dropped into the colony, some wardens from the Old Camp will start to trouble him. Shortly after, a man named Diego helps you by getting rid of the men.

You can gather some basic information about the Colony from Diego, and he’ll ask you to visit him in the Old Camp.
From there, if you follow in the direction Diego is heading, you’ll arrive at the gate nearby. There are some guards on top of the gate. One of the guards will tell you that you can get a weapon near the old mine nearby.

Finding The First Weapon
Follow the pathway ahead. There’s a small abandoned campfire nearby. You’ll find a chest here. There are some beers and ores inside the chest. Beers are one of the basic forms of healing, while the ores are used as currency for everything inside the Colony.
Keep going ahead. You’ll eventually arrive at the old mine. However, the old mine is currently locked. You can pick up a pickaxe from near its gate.

If you take the wooden bridge ahead, you’ll find a Rusty Sword, but there’s also a Molerat here that you’ll have to fight against. Equip the pickaxe to defeat the Molerat, and then take the Rusty Sword.
After you’ve gotten the Rusty Sword, you’ll have to go downhill. There’s Juvenile Scavenger nearby. Defeat it and keep going on the path.

To The Old Camp
Keep following the path ahead after going downhill from near the old mine. You’ll eventually reach two hunters. There’s a bridge ahead. You may also find some enemies on the path, but you can lure them to the hunters or the bridge guards to get rid of them.
Go beyond the bridge, and you’ll find the Old Camp right there. There are many things of interest in the camp, but first, you have to head to the castle in the middle.

You’ll be stopped by a couple of guards. Talk to Thorus in front of the castle gate. Thorus will tell you that you need someone to vouch for you, someone like Diego, and then you’ll be allowed to enter the castle and deliver your letter.

Thorus’s Quest: Out Of Sight
You can ask Thorus if he needs anything done. He’ll reject you, but if you’re persistent enough and keep pressing the dialogue option that asks him for work, he’ll eventually give in and give you a task.
He asks you to find a man called Mordrag and make sure Thorus never gets to see him again inside the Old Camp. Now, you have the freedom to deal with this quest however you want.

Mordrag is near the southern gate of the Old Camp, which is on the opposite side of the castle. If you go to him and tell him that the camp is too small for the two of them, then that will immediately start a fight between you and Mordrag.
However, fighting anyone is a bad choice, especially this early on. You can instead Mordrag that he has a problem, and he’ll offer to take you to the New Camp. You can then use this opportunity later to have him escort you to the New Camp, while also putting in a good word for you.

Once he takes you to the New Camp, that will complete Thorus’s quest, and Mordrag will give you his ring, which is a sign of trust from him in the New Camp.
If Mordrag dies during the escort, you can take his ring from his body. This will also complete Thorus’s quest, but you’ll leave a fencer, so it’s best to reload and ensure that he survives.

Diego’s Quest: Test Of Faith
You can find Diego near the castle’s entrance and Thorus. Talk to him, and he’ll ask you to prove your worth by gaining the approval of the Shadows all over the Old Camp.
After that, you can talk to the other Shadows, including Sly, Fingers, and Dexter. Any named Warden that you’ll find in the Old Camp might have a quest for you, so keep your eyes out for that one.

After you’ve completed two to three quests for the Wardens, you can return to Diego and ask him for your reputation in the camp. He’ll then offer you a quest of his own.
For the quest, Diego asks you to head to the Old Mine and find Ian. Ian will give you a list, and you’ll have to bring it back to Diego. You can also ask Graham for a map to the Old Mines.

If you head to Graham, he may ask you for 20 Ore Nuggets for the map. However, if you threaten him, he’ll give you the map for free. You can then use the map to reach the Old Mines.
Once you’re there, you have to keep going down in the mines. You’ll eventually find Ulbert, and you’ll find Ian shortly ahead, alongside Alberto and Aaron.

Ian will give you a list, and you have to bring it back to Diego. If you have a pickaxe, you can mine some ore from the mine for yourself. You can also buy one from Alberto.
Once you return to Diego, he’ll ask you to level up, learn some skills, and complete more quests in the area.

Mud
Mud is an NPC that will tag along by himself. He’s very annoying, and you can’t get rid of him normally. You can talk to him to make him quiet for a while.
However, once he tags along, he’ll keep pestering you again and again. However, he serves as a perfect shield if you run into any enemies in the Colony. You can also get rid of him yourself if you really want by using a weapon.

Bloodwyn
Bloodwyn is one of the NPCs in the Old Camp. The first time you cross his path, he’ll stop you and ask you for a payment of 10 Nuggets. If you refuse, he’ll threaten you and leave.
It’s best to just give him 10 Nuggets. He might come to you again later to ask for more Nuggets after a few days, but it’s recommended to give him just what he needs.

If you refuse, many of the residents of the Old Camp will try to harm you. In the early game, it’s best to have as few enemies as possible, and if a few Nuggets keep them away, then that works fine.

Fingers’ Quest: A Ring For Fingers
You’ll find Fingers near the arena, in an alley. If you talk to him, he’ll ask you to steal Scatty’s ring from his hut.
Scatty’s hut is the one Fingers is standing behind. Head inside the hut and you’ll find the chest here.

You’ll have to pick the lock for the chest. You’ll need a lockpick for that. You can buy it from Mordrag or the other fencers in the Old Camp.
To pick the lock, you’ll have to align all of the plates in such a way that their middle pins are aligned and raised.

Take Scatty’s ring and bring it back to Fingers. He’ll give you his word of approval.

Scatty’s Arena
Scatty is the master of the Arena. If you go and talk to him, he’ll ask you to participate in the arena by fighting against three of his fighters.
These fighters are standing near the cauldron, outside of the Arena’s gate. At first, you’re only allowed to duel against one of them, Kirgo.

Kirgo is the weakest fighter, but he’s still a formidable challenge when you don’t have much gear on you. I got defeated by him, but if you’re able to win against him, go and talk to Scatty, and he’ll likely put in a good word for you.
If you’re defeated, you’ll still have to talk to Scatty. I tried to challenge Kirgo again, but it still didn’t work out because he refused to talk to the hero.

Torrez’s Quest: The Price Of Magic
You can find Torrez in the outer ring. He’s a mage, and he offers to teach you a spell if you ask him about the letter.
Torrez then asks you to find a blank piece of scroll paper and two wolf claws. You can get the scroll of paper from Graham, the map maker. You can get the wolf claws from Dexter.

Once you’ve given him the required materials, he’ll be willing to teach you Rune Magic for 5 LP, which can be obtained by leveling up.

Snaf’s Quests: Snaf’s Recipe And The Forgotten Recipe
Snaf is the cook who can be found near the cauldron. When you first approach him, he’ll ask you to look for five Hellcaps and 5 pieces of Bugmeat.
You can find Hellcaps mushrooms in the Colony and near some caves. Bugmeat can be obtained from Meatbugs, which can be found inside the Old Camp, near the castle walls, and in some places outside in the Colony. Once you’ve gathered everything, give it to Snaf, and he’ll give you some Stew regularly.

If you talk to Guy near the Arena, he’ll tell you about a house that has just become empty. It is the hut near the arena, with the red Awning.
Now, if you go inside the house and open the chest, you’ll find a recipe inside it. Bring that recipe to Snaf, and he’ll ask you to gather some ingredients.

For the recipe, you’ll have two of these ingredients: Scavenger Meat, Water, Onions, Carrots, Potatoes, and a herb called Solanaceae, which grows in caves.
Now, you can get all of the ingredients from Dexter, including water. Make sure you buy two of each. If you’ve gone out of the Old Camp, either with Mordrag, anyone else, or alone, you might’ve already encountered some scavengers, and you can get their meat from their bodies after defeating them.

For Solanaceae, you can easily get them from the two caves near Cavalorn’s hut. You must’ve encountered it on the path to the New Camp. The two caves are quite near his hut. However, be wary, you’ll have to fight the Molerats inside the caves before you can get the herb.

Return to Snaf, and he’ll take one of each of the ingredients you have brought. Now, you have to go and make your own Brock’s stew. You can only make it in a cauldron. After that, return to Snaf and let him try the stew. He’ll become very friendly with you afterwards.

Sly’s Quest: The Vanished Warder
Sly asks you to find Nek. He’ll tell you to go and ask more about the guy from Fletcher. When you talk to Fletcher, he’d ask you to talk to Guy near the Arena. However, Fletcher also suspects that Nek might have left the Old Camp for the New Camp.

If you talk to Guy, he’ll ask you to go and talk to Snaf, as he might know more. Snaf, on the other hand, doesn’t have any dialogue options related to Nek.
However, when you first talk to him, he’ll tell you that he sent a guy called Nek to look for Hellcap mushrooms.

Now, to find Nek, you’ll have to head out from the South Gate and keep going south. There’s a cave shortly ahead.

You’ll find Nek’s body inside the cave. Loot it to get his Necklace. Once you do that, you can return to Sly. Report to him that Nek is dead, and give him the Necklace. You can then give him Nek’s necklace, and he’ll put in a good word for you.
You can then also talk to Fletcher and report to him that Nek is dead to wrap it all up.

Whistler’s Quest: Whistler’s Sword
Whistler can be found in the Old Camp, near the area where you found Torrez. He asks you to go to Fisk and buy his sword for him, without mentioning Whistler’s name.

Whistler also gives you 100 Nuggets in advance to pay for the sword. However, if you go to Fisk and ask for the ornamental sword, he’ll ask 110 Nuggets for it.
I paid 110 Nuggets right there, but you can also return to Whistler to inform him that Fisk is asking for 110 Nuggets. Once you’ve got the sword from Fisk, bring it back to Whistler, and he’ll be all praises for you.

Fisk can sell you weapons and other stuff. However, keep in mind that if you’ve led Mordrag out of the Old Camp or defeated him in battle, Fisk will be angry at you. You can then offer to fix the situation between you and him, and he’ll ask you to find another fencer for him. You’ll still be able to trade with him.

Fisk’s Quest: Finding A New Fence For Fisk
To earn Fisk’s approval, you’ll need to find him a new fencer after you’ve dealt with Mordrag. For that, you’ll have to head to the New Camp.
As you go deeper into the New Camp, you’ll find that there’s a whole society living under a stone dome, and they’ve been gathering Ore Nuggets to break the barrier.

You can explore the New Camp and little and talk to Lares as well. However, what you really need to do here for Fisk is to find Sharky. As you enter the dome, you’ll find Baal Kagan near the entrance, sitting at a camp. Sharky is just ahead of him.

After you tell Sharky that Fisk from the Old Camp is looking for a fencer, he’ll agree to it. Now, you have to return to the Old Camp and give him the news. Fisk will be happy and will be willing to put in a good word for you.

Dexter’s Quest: The Cult’s Recipe
When you talk to Dexter, he’ll ask you to steal the recipe for the swampweed from Cor Kalom in the Swamp Camp.
Some dialogue options hinted towards Dexter giving you some Nuggets in advance, in case you had to buy the recipe from Cor Kalom. However, I agreed to the quest without asking for anything else.

The Swamp Camp is far, so you’ll need an escort. You can talk to Baal Parvez near Torrez and Fisk. Baal will be willing to take you to the Swam Camp, and he’s very strong, so you won’t have to worry about him dying.

Once you’re inside the Swamp Camp, talk to Lester, and he’ll take you to Cor Kalom’s Laboratory. Go upstairs, and you’ll find Caine guarding the gate.
I told him that I knew Cor Kalom, and he stepped out of the way. He can also tell you that Kalom keeps his recipes inside the chest.

Once you’re inside the Laboratory, you’ll find the chest behind Caine’s workstation. Cor Kalom might also be in the Laboratory. Now, it can be very challenging to steal the recipe without Cor Kalom knowing, and if you talk to him, he’ll outright refuse.
However, I was able to steal the recipe when Cor Kalom turned his back towards the chest. You’ll still have to pick the lock, so make sure you have some lockpicks on you.

If you see Cor Kalom has spotted you while you’re trying to pick the lock, step away immediately, and he’ll go back to his work without attacking you. It was very challenging, but entirely possible to steal it.
Once you’re done, you’ll have to head back to the Old Camp, likely by yourself, and give the recipe to Dexter. He’ll be impressed, and Diego will be impressed as well when he hears about this.

Admission To The Old Camp
Now that you’ve completed a variety of quests, you can go and talk to Diego. He’ll say that you’re now ready and will ask you to talk to Thorus to enter the castle and see Gomez.

Talk to Thorus, and he’ll let you pass. Go to the castle, and you’ll be stopped by the guards, but they’ll eventually let you go in.
Here, you’ll find Raven. Raven will take you to see Gomez. Now, Gomez is extremely powerful and wants to be treated with utmost respect. You can’t lie to him. Go and ask him so you can join his camp.

You’ll have to tell Gomez that you know many people and have been to other camps. This will catch his eye, and he’ll ask who do you know.

If you’ve completed all the quests so far, you’ll be able to name the fencers, some baals from the brotherhood, Cor Kalom, and Lares.
Make sure you don’t name anyone you haven’t actually met. After that, tell him that those were all the important ones, and he’ll finally accept you into the Old Camp as a Shadow. Now, you have to go and talk to Raven.

Raven will give you a new armor and a new quest to head to the Swamp Camp, talk to the spy named Caine, and get his report. This will conclude Chapter 1 and start Chapter 2.
Note that if you’ve joined the Old Camp, the quests for admission into the New Camp and the Swamp Camp will fail.

This concludes the walkthrough for Chapter 1 of Gothic 1 Remake.
