Welcome to part 4 of our walkthrough for Grime II.
We’ve made it past the Faceless Mountains and unlocked a new ability for ourselves. Kankan lies just beyond Marah’s Orchard, but there are some things to be done before we can head through.

Unlocking the Map of Marah’s Orchard

From the Bridge to Kankan Surrogate that we activated in the last part of our walkthrough, you’ll see two paths on your right. One leads above you, the other goes further to the right.

We’ll take the path on the right first. You can use the green orb on the right to gain a boosted jump by pressing the dash button when you reach it.

Take a few steps forward to spot a grapple point on the other side of the vine. Jump toward the vine and use the Grasphook on the grapple point just before touching the vine to get through.

Go right and drop down to find the first Seal for the zone and activate it to unlock the Marah’s Orchard Map.
Reaching Kankan Entrance

Continue heading right until you reach the edge of the floor. From here, you’ll want to jump to the right. Don’t worry, there is no fall damage in Grime II.

There’s a ladder underneath you and a platform to your right as you fall.

The platform on the right has some Atriums that you can loot.

Go down the ladder. You’ll spot another floor on the right and a floating, fragile platform on your left. Jump to the platform first.

Break the wall on the left, past the vines, using your Grasp. Then use the jumping point to boost yourself forward and dash past the vine.

From here, you’ll need to do a series of jumps using the boost point to reach the left section without touching the vines on the floor. You’ll find a Spike Ball at the end of the parkour segment.

Drop down to the floor after picking it up and head right. You’ll see a small opening under the wall and an enemy on the other side.

Dash through and take out the enemy. You can spot the ladder from earlier on the right.

Take the ladder all the way down to the lower floor. There’s an enemy at the bottom that you’ll want to watch out for.

Go left from the bottom of the ladder and drop down through the floor at the end.

This will lead you to a dead end. You can spot an item above you, but you’ll have to unlock a new ability to reach it. For now, just put a marker on your map and return to the ladder.

Head right, past the ladder, and use the boost to head up. You’ll have to use the Grasphook to get past the vines above you.

At the top of this area, you’ll find an Overgrown Blob Item Mold. Break the wall on the left to unlock a shortcut back to the ladder.

Go back down the ladder and keep going right until you spot a platform above you. Before going up, dash to the right to go through the small hole in the wall. It can be hard to see, but we’ve marked it in the image above.

Follow the path through the tunnel and drop down to face a Shortblade Sword Adept. Take it down for a Hunt Pigment.

Keep following the path to your left, and you’ll reach a breakable wall. Use the boost point above you to loop back to the area with the big ladder.

Return to the place where you entered the tunnel, and this time use the platform above you to head up.

There is a Bloodroot Splinter at the top left that can be hard to see.

Continue along the path to your right. You’ll have to fight some enemies here.

At the far right, you’ll find an enemy standing just before a vine. Take it down. There’s a grapple point you can see right above you.

However, there’s a second grapple point that’s hidden. Take the hidden grapple point first.

This will take you to another short parkour segment.

You’ll find the Smidge of Paint Item Mold at the end of the segment. Break the wall on the left to find the big ladder from earlier.

Return to the previous location and use the grapple point above you to continue moving forward.

You’ll have to fight a Poaching Needler at the top. Take it down and use the boost point on your right to reach the upper level.

Take down the enemy on your right. The main path is to the left, but we’re going to pick up a Breath Capacity Upgrade before we move on.
Marah’s Orchard Breath Capacity Upgrade

After taking down the enemy, head right. Drop through the platforms. There are two enemies below that you’ll want to take out.

Go right and use the grapple point on the other side of the gap to reach the right section.

Use the boost points to get across and grapple to the floor on the other side.

Pick up another Homing Droplet and drop down through the floor.

Go left until you reach another chasm. You can see a grapple point on the other side.

Grapple across and take out the enemies here.

Instead of moving forward, you’ll want to drop down on your right and use Grasphook, aiming at the top left corner as you fall. This will take you to a hidden area.

Head left, drop down, and interact with the item on the ground to increase your Breath Capacity.

From here, head left and break the wall. Take out the enemies in the next room.

Dash through the vine and keep heading left. You’ll loop back to a previous section of the map. If you keep heading up, you’ll reach back to the area where you dropped down from.

Continue along the main path to your left. You’ll reach a short parkour segment. Dash through the vine to reach the platform on the left. Then use the boost to reach the left section.

Go up and then right again, past some more obstacles, until you eventually reach a ladder heading up.

Continue heading right, past the ladder, until you spot the Kankan Entrance Surrogate. Activate it and save your progress.

From here, if you keep going right, you’ll trigger the Prime Pitcher boss fight.
How to Beat The Prime Pitcher

The Prime Pitcher guards the bridge to Kankan in Marah’s Orchard and is a mandatory boss. But in terms of difficulty, it’s not a very hard fight despite its moderate health pool. The boss only has four distinct attacks, and all of them are pretty easy to avoid.

The boss has a two-hit basic attack. The first hit is a slam, and the second is a swing that can hit behind it.

Among its attacks, two are Rage Attacks. The first Rage Attack is a series of stabs with its weapon. You have to dodge behind the boss for the first two stabs and use Grasp Counter for the third stab.

Another Rage Attack is where the boss stomps its foot on the ground, dealing AOE damage, and follows up with a lunge of its spear. You have to dodge the stomp and can Grasp Counter after the lunge.

The main attack that you’ll want to watch out for is when the boss raises its weapon, and the ground turns golden. After a brief delay, the boss will slam the weapon on the ground, dealing damage. The attack also creates three homing orbs that you must dodge.

There’s not much else to the fight. Stay on your feet and keep countering its attacks, and the boss will go down in no time. Absorb the Mold afterward to upgrade your Paint Capacity.

Once the boss is defeated, continue heading right. You’ll eventually run into a giant bridge on the right. The bridge, named Impaled Mountainborn, will talk to you.

Run through its dialogue. Once you tell him that you’ve taken down the leader of the Faceless, he’ll ask that you find a Mountainborn in the Underheads.
After the conversation, return to the Kankan Entrance Surrogate and save your progress.
Exploring the Upper Part of Marah’s Orchard (Optional)
The Mountainborn that you’re looking for is in the area of Underheads that’s accessed from Marah’s Orchard. The entrance is near the Bridge to Kankan Surrogate. But before we head back, there are a few things nearby that we want to wrap up.
The first of them is the second Seal of the region to unlock the Area Warp.
Activating the Second Seal in Marah’s Orchard

From the Kankan Bridge Surrogate, head left and go up the ladder.

At the top, jump to the platform on the left.

Keep following the path till you reach a large breakable wall. Break the wall and head through.

The Seal will be right on the other side of the wall.

Continue heading right after activating the Seal. You’ll see another breakable wall up ahead.

Break through the wall to spot a Dropot Runner. These are unique enemies that don’t respawn. You can later turn them in for rewards once you reach Kankan. But be careful, as they are much harder than regular enemies.

After taking it down, go left and use the grapple point above you to reach the platform.

The path on the left past the thorns leads back to the Bridge to Kankan Surrogate. We will return here later to check out the upper path. For now, return to the ladder from earlier.

While grabbing the ladder, dash to the boost point past the vine. There’s a grapple point on the right past the vine that you can grab. You’ll find some Atriums here.

Drop back down on the left and take the ladder all the way to the top. Dash past the vine and take out the Poaching Needler.

Go right and use the grapple point to head up.

Take out the enemy on the right past the vine and loot some Atriums.

Head left again and take out the enemies here. You’ll find some Fragments on the ground.

There’s an item on a ledge on the left that you can’t reach from here. Use the grapple point above to reach the center platform.

Keep heading up and take the ladder to the upper floor to continue ascending. You’ll spot a wall that’s breakable from the other side on your left. There’s another path on the right blocked off by some vines.

Jump to the right and dodge through the vine. Then continue forward, dodging through vines along the way.

Drop down through the platform to reach another platform below, where you’ll find the Poacher Legs.

Return to the ladder above you and continue heading up till you see two more paths: one on the right and one slightly above on the left.

The path on the right leads to some enemies. You’ll find some Fragments at the end.

The left path through the vine leads to a short parkour section.

Get past the obstacles, and at the end, you’ll find an item on the ground. Pick it up to slightly increase your Force Meter. We’ve covered this side for now.

Return to the area where you fought the Dropot Runner and use the grapple point to reach the upper area.

Take out the two enemies on the upper floor.

Go left and jump to the ledge above. Then use the grapple point on the right to reach the upper floor.

You’ll see a ledge right above you that you can grapple.

Go up and head left using the boost point.

Go up and then right to spot some Atriums. Pick it up and then drop down to the lower floor.

Head right this time, dashing through the vine. You’ll have to get to the other side, jumping across the platforms and dashing through the vines.

On the other side, you can see a path heading up. But before going that route, dash in through the hole in the wall on the other side of the vine.

Drop down through the platforms to reach a chamber. There are two enemies here that you’ll have to take down.

After defeating them, head left and drop down again. You’ll find the Poacher Chest on a platform below.

Drop through the platform again to reach the area with the second Seal. Make your way back to the area where you came from and take the upper path. You’ll have to fight two enemies as soon as you make it up.

Jump to the left floating platform. Then jump through the vine and grab the grapple point on the left.

Use the boost points to reach the upper platform.

You’ll find a Thin Marah Strand here.

Drop back down and head right. Dash through the vine and use the grapple point on the other side to reach the platform.

Take out the enemies and head right to spot a breakable wall. This unlocks a shortcut back to the ladder you found above the Surrogate.

Go left and drop down. Dash through the vine on the right to reach a hidden area.

Follow the path to find the Poacher Hands.
We’re done exploring the upper path for now. Make your way back to the Bridge to Kankan Surrogate.
Finding the Mountainborn

From the Bridge to Kankan Surrogate, head left and go back to the Depth Traversal door where you found the Grasphook ability.
On the left, you’ll spot a grapple point. Use it to reach the left section.

Continue following the path, dropping through the platforms. The glowing stones here act as boost points, the same as the ones you found in Marah’s Orchard.

You’ll soon enter Underheads, continue following the path till you can’t go down anymore.

From here, head left until you spot a ladder. Use the glowing stone on the left to get past the falling sand.

Keep heading left. You’ll be able to collect a Thin Marah Strand up ahead.

Run to the left edge and drop down. Break the floor below you to find the Curling Nails Surrogate in Underheads.

From here, head right and drop down to the chamber below. Take a few steps forward to find the Mountainborn chained by some Nailgladers. After a few lines of dialogue, the Mountainborn breaks free, triggering a boss fight.
How to Beat the Mountainborn

The Mountainborn is a mandatory boss requires to unlock the path to Kankan. It’s a giant rock-snake creature that flails around the arena and can cause boulders to fall.

It’s Rage Attack, in which it raises its head before slamming the ground in front can be Grasp Countered, giving you a big opening to deal a lot of damage.

However, it has another Rage Attack where it jumps from one side of the arena to the other. You can’t counter it and must dodge out of the way to avoid taking damage. The slam also creates a shockwave that travels along the ground.

Staying on the boss’s backside causes it to perform another Rage Attack, where it spins its tail around, dealing massive damage and knockback.

The boss can also slam the ground with its head three times, causing rocks to fall from the ceiling. You can parry the attack or the falling rocks to throw them at the boss.

Finally, it can slam its tail into the ground, creating spikes in a large area around it. It’s best to dodge away to a safe distance.

When its health drops below half, the Mountainborn can shriek, causing ripples of spikes to emerge from the ground around him. You can keep a safe distance or use the glowing rocks in the arena to remain airborne during this attack.
Once the boss is defeated, Grasp the Mold to unlock the Deathmark ability.
Reaching the Third Lahav Knight

After defeating the Mountainborn, you can now head back to the bridge and enter Kankan. However, there’s a secret boss in the area that we can take out right now. Head right from the Mountainborn boss arena and break the wall.

This takes you to the ladder that you saw at the beginning of the zone. Head down the ladder and go all the way to the bottom floor.

Go left and break the hidden wall.

Head through and use the glowing stones to cross to the other side. There are two enemies below that you’ll have to fight if you fall.

Go past the falling sand on the other side and head left.

There’s a short parkour section up ahead. Use the glowing stones to head to the top and go past the falling sand on the left.

You’ll spot another ladder up ahead. The boss is just past the ladder to your left. But go up the ladder first.

This will take you to a breakable wall. This leads to the Mountainborn arena and a shortcut back to the Surrogate.

Head back down the ladder and go left. You’ll spot an NPC sitting up ahead. Talk to them. Choose “Yes. I challenge you.” to trigger a boss battle.
How to Beat the Third Lahav Knight

The Third Lahav Knight can be a decent challenge since he doesn’t give you any Breath Restoration. However, he has a relatively simple moveset.
The boss attacks with a Raking Sword, and most of his attacks can be parried. The timing is also pretty easy.

However, he has a few Rage Attacks that can be hard to dodge because of their delayed effect. The slam attack that deals AOE damage in front of the boss also has a shockwave that you’ll have to jump over.

His second Rage Attack, where he lunges forward while spinning, can be Grasp Countered, but the timing is difficult. So it’s best to focus on dodging to avoid taking damage.
The good news is that the boss doesn’t have a second phase. And since the Surrogate is close enough, you don’t have to worry about the runback either.

Defeating the boss grants you the Raking Sword. Absorb the Mold afterward to increase your Force Power.
Opening the Path to Kankan

Now that you’ve defeated the Mountainborn, you can head back to the Impaled Mountainhead guarding the bridge to Kankan.
Warp back to the Kankan Entrance Surrogate and continue heading right.
Talk to the Impaled Mountainborn and tell him that you’ve defeated the Mountainborn.

Talk to him again and tell him you want to enter Kankan. Walk into his mouth, and he’ll carry you across the bridge.

Keep heading right, and you’ll soon enter the town of Kankan. We’ll pick up the rest in the next part of our walkthrough.
