Welcome to part 5 of our walkthrough for Grime II.
We’ve finally made it to the town of Kankan and secured an entry by completing the Mountainborn’s request. Now all we have to do is find the Breathsmith and deliver the item that Manzil sent.

Town of Kankan & the Nailglader Sanctum Surrogate

After the Impaled Mountainborn ferries you across, continue moving forward into the town. There are some NPCs here that you can talk to. Some of them don’t do anything, but others gives you side quests and turn into merchants.

The first NPC you’ll want to talk to is Uvid, standing near a large Table Smithed in the center of the market. He asks you to take care of a mad table that’s breaking everything. This is a side quest that we’ll complete in a bit.

Continue past Uvid to spot a breakable floor. Use your plunging attack to break through and go down.

You’ll spot the first Seal here that unlocks the map for the zone.

Return to the surface and keep heading right till you spot a ladder.

Before heading up, continue right. You’ll spot a Pitcher Guard Lower guarding the path to the lower parts of the city.

Climb up the ladder to reach the Merchant’s Area of the town. There are three merchants here who sell different types of items. You’ll want to talk to each of them.
- Lak
Found on the left side of the Merchant’s Area beside the ladder.
Sells different pigments in exchange for Glairs that you can use to change the color of your armor pieces.

- Heimar
Found on the right after standing in front of a pile of rocks.
Sells different upgrade materials such as Bloodroot Splinters, Shards, or Prismatic Gems.

- Addo
Found on the right, heading past Heimar, standing in the middle of some Dropot Runners.
Rewards you with different items for each Dropot Runner Container you bring back.

There’s a ladder beside Lak that you can use to head to the upper floor of the town. But before you do that, head all the way to the right, past Addo.
You’ll reach two breakable walls up ahead. Break it and head through to find the Nailgrlader Sanctum Surrogate.
Uvid’s Request & Searching for the Breathsmith

After activating the Surrogate, head left. You’ll spot a path heading down. We don’t need to go down, as it leads to a dead end. Instead, jump in through the opening above you.

You’ll find a Bloodroot Splinter here.

Go left now, past the Surrogate, and follow the lower path to reach a door. Interact with it and say that Uvid sent you to unlock the door.

Head inside. Rakik, the NPC inside the house, will ask you to deal with the table quickly.

Go right and take down the Table Smithed.

Talk to Rakik again and run through the dialogue to get a Bloodroot Splinter.

Exit the house and return to the Merchant’s Area. Talk to Heimar and tell him you’re here to see the Breathsmith. He’ll say that the Breathsmith is missing, but you can talk to his Assistant by heading up and left.

Take the ladder beside Lak to reach the upper floor of Kankan. Go left at the top to find the Breathsmith’s Assistant. Choose the dialogue “I was told you are the Breathsmith’s assistant”
He’ll tell you that the Breathsmith got arrested and is held in the Procelain Court to the far right.

With that information, start heading right. Talk to the group of NPCs near the ladder for a new side quest.

Continue forward after talking to them. You’ll find Traveler Et in the upper platform.

Go past him, and you’ll run into a Pitcher Guard. Tell them that you want to see the Breathsmith in the court, and they’ll let you through.

Keep moving forward. There’s a breakable floor up ahead that unlocks a shortcut back to the Nailglader Sanctum Surrogate. Make sure you break the floor before you move on.

Go all the way to the right to enter the Porcelain Court, where you’ll meet Yuf and Firstmith Malik. Run through their dialogue to trigger a guantlet.

You’ll have to take down three waves of Jar Pitchers and Jug Pitchers. Once they’ve been defeated, you’ll have to fight the Tankard Warden.
How to Beat the Tankard Warden

The Tankard Warden is a mandatory boss that the Firstsmith Malik summons to fight you when you enter the Porcelain Court in search of the Breathsmith. It has a large health pool, but its relatively simple moveset makes the fight manageable if you’re good with your parry timings.
A lot of its attacks can be followed up with a Grasp Counter, which opens it up for a few quick attacks if you’re close to it. However, it’s also important to note that its sword attacks can hit both the front and the back. Since the attacks deal massive damage, especially if you haven’t invested in Health, it’s important to maintain a safe distance at all times.

During the first phase of the fight, the boss only has a single Rage Attack, where it leaps from one side of the arena to the other. It’s easy to dodge and get behind the boss.

Almost all of its basic attacks can be parried, but they often have a delayed effect which means you need to look closely at the boss’s movements before you hit the parry button.

Once its health drops to around half, it goes into the second phase. You’ll see the boss letting off steam when the phase begins.

During the second phase, the boss attacks faster and gives you fewer openings to respond to its attacks. On top of that, he gains a new attack where he creates a shockwave on the ground.

Other than that, the fight remains essentially the same. The biggest strength of the boss is its health pool. But as long as you manage to avoid getting hit and get in some chip damage whenever there’s an opening, it should go down without too much trouble.

Loot the boss’s Mold afterwards to increase your Breath Capacity.

After defeating the Tankard Warden, talk to the Firstmith Malik and Yuf. You’ll learn that the Breathsmith has been arrested for sneaking in a Lahavist Greatblade. But the Firstsmith will grant you audience if you manage to defeat the Greatblade Preacher in the lower Kankan.

With that done, head to the ground floor of Kankan and go right until you spot an elevator. Use it to head to the lower parts of the city.

At the bottom, head right first. You’ll spot an Atrium Orb on the ground and a Thin Marah Strand above you that you can grasp. Pick them up.

Then head all the way to the left until you spot the Pitcher Vanguard talking with Holster. Run through the dialogue.

Keep heading left after the conversation. You’ll spot a path heading down.

Go up first and left to spot the Savior Shrine Surrogate. Save your progress.
Exploring Lower Kankan & Unlocking the Second Seal

Head right from the Surrogate and drop down. We’re going to have to take the lower path that we saw earlier. An enemy is waiting for you as soon as you drop down. Take it out quickly.

Head right, past the enemy, and drop down to the lower platform. There’s a small opening on the right from the middle platform.

You’ll find some Fragments if you dash through the opening.

Go back and drop down once again to reach the lower floor. Take out the enemies in the area.

There’s a breakable floor on the right side of this area. This will lead you to the Volatile Vase Item Mold.

Go back out and head left from where you fought the enemies. You’ll reach a large section filled with some more enemies. Take them all down.

Continue heading left and use the Depth Traversal door at the end.

You’ll be ambushed by two enemies as soon as you go through the door. Take them down and head right.

Drop down to the floor below. Go left first to pick up a Bloodroot Splinter. Then drop down through the platform on the right.

There are some more enemies waiting for you on the lower floor. Take them out.

On the right side of the area, there’s another breakable floor. Head down through it.

You’ll land on a fragile platform hovering over a pit of spikes. So quickly jump to the right and use Grasp to reach another platform. From here, make another jump to the right to reach safe ground.

Continue moving forward along the path, past another breakable wall on the right, to reach some Atriums.

Return to the pit of spikes and use Grasp on the platform above you to reach the upper section.

Head left to spot a breakable wall. This will take you back to the room where you fought all the enemies before dropping down through the hidden floor.

Go all the way to the left and use Grasp before jumping up to the ledge on the left. Go left and use Grasp again above you to drop the Pitcher Guard Chest item.

Drop back down, jump to the ledge on the left, and continue moving forward.

Go down through the floors to spot Ver waiting for you on the lower floor. Run through her dialogue. She’ll tell you that to reach the Greatblade Preacher, you have to go left and up.

Keep going left, past Ver, to find another Depth Traversal door. Head through it.

Take out the enemies on the other side.

After taking down the enemies, you’ll want to ascend through the area. There’s a Grasp platform on the right that you can use to head up.

Aim for the top-right corner and continue heading up. You’ll have to fight past a bunch of enemies.

Eventually you’ll make it ot the area shown in the image above.

From here, head left to find the second Seal. Activate it to unlock Area Warp for the Kankan region.

Go all the way to the right to find a breakable wall. The Savior Shrine Surrogate is just on the other side of the wall. Break the wall to unlock the shortcut.
How to Unlock the Wall Jump Ability

From the Surrogate, head left and drop down to the lower part through the shortcut you unlocked just now.

Go all the way to the left using the floating platforms in the area. Don’t go down.

You will find Ver waiting for you in front of a Depth Traversal door. Talk to her.

She’ll tell you that the Greatblade Preacher is through the door and that she’ll help you along in the fight by dropping Vase-bombs from above.

When you’re ready, go through the door. The floor will break, and you’ll drop to a large chamber where the Greatblade Preacher is waiting for you.
How to Beat the Greatblade Preacher

The Greatblade Preacher is a mandatory boss that’s waiting for you in the lower Kankan region. You must defeat him to gain an audience with the Breathsmith held at Kankan.

The fight starts with two additional Sword Scabbards in the room. The first thing you should do is take them out quickly. If they lose their sword, they become docile.

The Greatblade Preacher, as the name suggests, wields a Greatblade with massive reach that can deal a lot of damage if you get hit. But he’s extremely susceptible to Grasp Counters. Most of his attacks can be Grasp Countered to interrupt him and give you an opening to deal damage.
When you use Grasp Counter, get ready for another parry, as he often follows up with a sword slam as soon as you counter him.

In any case, you’ll want to position yourself behind the boss in most situations. He has some attacks that can hit you even if you’re standing behind him, but those are widely telegraphed, giving you plenty of time to parry or dodge away.

Throughout the fight, Ver will keep dropping Vase-bombs in the arena. You can use these to deal damage to the boss from a safe distance.

Loot the Mold after defeating the boss to gain the Dash Counter Ability.

Continue heading left after the boss is down to spot a lever. Dash into it to activate the lever and open the gate up ahead.

Head through the gate to find a Discarded Flesh. Absorbing it gives you the Wall Jump ability.
Reporting Back to the Firstsmith

After unlocking the Wall Jump ability, you can head left and use it to go up.

Continue moving forward past the obstacles until you reach a Depth Traversal door at the bottom part of the zone. Use it to head outside.

To progress, you have to return directly to the Firstsmith Malik. But we’ll do some more exploration before we do so. Go right and drop all the way down to the bottom part of the area.

You’ll find Holster, the NPC that you saw talking with the Pitcher Vanguard when you entered Lower Kankan. Speak with him.

He’ll turn hostile. But he goes down with only one hit. You’ll get the Holster’s Remains item for beating him.

Go left to spot some jars blocking a Depth Traversal door. Break the jars.

Head inside after picking up the Fragments on the platform above you. You’ll need to use Wall Jump on the left wall to reach it.

This leads you to a small room where you need to use Wall Jump to loop around to the other side of the breakable wall. Pick up the Volatile Vase on the other side. Then break the wall to open the path back to the Depth Traversal door.

Use the door to head back outside. Go all the way to the right to fight a Dropot Runner.

Head left and drop through the floor.

There’s a small opening in the wall that you can dash through on your right.

This leads to a parkour section filled with spikes. Now that you have the Wall Jump, you can make your way across it.

At the end of the parkour segment, you’ll drop down to an area filled with red grass blades. Talk to the NPC Qissa here. You can either take him down for 50 Fragments or choose the less-violent options to turn him into an NPC that tells you stories.

Pick up the Charging Javelin Item Mold on the right side of the area.

Head to the left and break the wall up ahead.

There’s an NPC up ahead, but it doesn’t give you anything at this point. Use Grasp on the platform above you.

There’s a Bloodroot Splinter on your left. Pick it up.
We’re done with the zone for now. Make your way back to the Savior Shrine Surrogate and use Warp to fast travel back to the Nailglader Sanctum. You can also use the lift that you used to enter the zone in the first place.

Before you go back to the Firstsmith, head to the group of NPCs that you talked to on the upper floor of the town. Since you’ve got Holster’s Remains, talking with them gives you 15 Atriums as a reward.

Go back to the Porcelain Court and talk with Firstsmith Malik. Tell him you’ve defeated the Greatblade Preacher, and he’ll allow you to see the Breathsmith.

Continue heading right and use the small elevator to head down.

At the bottom, head right to talk to Yr’Gog, the Breathsmith. Run through all the dialogue options, and when it ends, Manzil will break him out. Unfortunately, you have to escape the hard way.
Escaping Kankan & Returning to Manzil’s House

With Manzil and Yr’Gog teleporting out, you’re left stranded in Kankan. On top of that, the Jar and Jug Pitchers that were friendly earlier are now hostile. Head left and take out the Jug Pitcher up ahead.

Continue along the path. There’s a Jar Pitcher waiting for you on the upper floor.

Use Grasp on the platforms above you to reach the upper floor.

Take out the three enemies here and head right.

Use Grasp on the platform above and continue forward. You can talk to the prisoner for some extra dialogue.

Keep making your way through the zone, taking down enemies as you go. Eventually, you’ll reach the elevator at the top of the zone.

Go past the elevator and enter the Porcelain Court. Speak with Firstsmith Malik and Yuf.

After the conversation, head to the Firstsmith’s Assistant all the way to the left. Choose the dialogue “Yr’Gog said the store is now yours.”

From here, you can run back to the Nailglader Sanctum Surrogate and use it to fast travel back to Manzil’s House. Go right, from the Manzil’s House Surrogate and up through the platforms.

You’ll find Manzil on the right, standing with Yr’Gog and the rest of the crew. Speak with him and run through the dialogue to unlock Manzil’s Breathcrown and a new set of objectives for you.
