Heading to the Jagged Forest

While Blade Garden can be accessed from Nailglade, there are a few things we have to do in Jagged Forest before we can fully complete the Blade Garden.
To access this location, you must first return to Kankan. Make your way to the place where you found the Pitcher Vanguard in the lower Kankan district. Now that you have a Breathcrown, you can break the seal and progress through the barrier.

You can Warp to the Saviour Shrine Surrogate in Kankan and head down. We’ve marked the spot in the image above.

Continue moving forward as you enter the jagged forest. You’ll eventually drop down from the ledge on the left.

Drop below the platform one more time. You’ll want to head right first.

This will take you straight to Lahav’s Root Surrogate. Activate it and save your progress.
Activating the First Seal & Unlocking the Jagged Forest Map

Keep heading left from the Surrogate you just activated. You’ll drop into a small section where you’ll encounter two small enemies. Take them down.

Head all the way to the left and use the grapple point to get to the upper ledge. There are a few more enemies you’ll have to beat as you drop down on the left.

Continue moving forward, and you’ll soon reach a path heading upward.

Go right on the upper floor and take down some more enemies. Then use the grapple point above you to get past the spike wall and reach the platform on the right.

Take down the enemy here. Then scale up the wall on the right.

There will be a path on the left halfway up the wall. However, you’ll want to keep going up, using the grapple points to get past the red thorns.

Go all the way to the top and get to the floor on the left. You’ll find the Firstsmith Delivery item on the ground. Pick it up.

Drop off the ledge on the left. There are a few enemies below you on the right, but you don’t have to fight them. Keep going left.

Soon you’ll reach a wall of spikes. Use Burst Jump to reach the ledge above you. There’s a grapple point you can use.

Take out the enemy up ahead and drop down the hole on the left.

Make sure you control your descent using the wall and the grapple point on the right as you fall. Or else, you’ll fall straight into a pit of spikes below.

Go right and fight two more enemies. There are some Fragments you can grab from the ledge on the right. When you’re ready, drop through the platform.

At the bottom, head left and defeat some more enemies. Go left and drop through the platform again.

You’ll arrive at the first Seal. Activate it to unlock the map.

Go right and use Grasphook on the fragile ceiling above you to unlock a shortcut back to the Surrogate.
Reaching the Knight’s Cave Surrogate

Head left after activating the second Seal and drop through the platform. Take out the enemies below.

Go right first. You’ll find some Fragments.

Go all the way to the left and climb up using the grapple point.

There’s a Bloodroot Splinter that you can grab as soon as you climb up.

Keep going left and stand before the edge of the floor. From here, you want to Burst Jump upward and use the grapple point on the right to scale up a wall.

Complete a short platforming section until you land on the upper floor past the wall of spikes.

Keep going left until you drop down to a new area. There’s a path on the right, behind you. But go left first.

You’ll see the Knight’s Cave Surrogate up ahead. Activate it.
Opening the Path to Underheads & Fourth Lahav Knight

From the Knight’s Cave Surrogate, use the grapple point above you to reach the ladder and go up.

Keep heading left. You’ll spot two Bloodroot Splinters along the way.

At the far left, you’ll reach a breakable wall. Pick up the Heart of a Warrior from the ground and break the wall to unlock a path to the Underheads region.

With that done, return to the Knight’s Cave Surrogate and follow the path to the left. You’ll eventually reach a large arena where the Fourth Lahav Knight is already waiting for you.

Speak with him, and once the dialogue ends, he’ll attack you.

While the Fourth Lahav Knight is a difficult foe, it is not a boss battle. His moveset is pretty similar to the Third Lahav Knight that you faced back in the Underheads.
Defeating the enemy grants you the Knight Breathcrown, Clawing Scythe, and also upgrades your Force Power damage.

After taking down the Fourth Lahav Knight, go left to spot a breakable wall. Break the wall and continue forward to find the complete Lahavist Wanderer armor set.

Return to the breakable wall and scale up the wall to pick up a Thin Marah Strand. Go back to the Knight’s Cave Surrogate.
Activating the Second Seal & Unlocking Area Warp

From the Surrogate, keep heading right until you see a path heading down.

Drop through the platform and slide down slowly along the wall. Use Grasphook to get past the thorns below you until you reach the bottom.

Take out the enemies in the area and head right. Use the grapple point above you to climb up.

When you enter a large opening with a spiked wall on the right, drop down and grapple past the red thorns to descend.

At the bottom, you’ll find the Goz Sickle.

Continue forward and drop down the hole on the right. Take out the enemies in the area and keep going right.

You can grab a Hunt Pigment for defeating the next enemy.

Just past the enemy, you’ll find an item stuck on the wall above you. Break it using Grasphook and pick up the Chain Javelin Item Mold.

Head right and use the grapple points above you to make your way forward.

You’ll eventually reach a room with two enemies on either side of you. Take them down. There are some Atriums on the left that you can loot.

Go all the way to the right and up until you see white hands on the ceiling. Use the grapple point to go up and break the floor to open a shortcut back to Lahav’s Roots Surrogate.

Keep moving forward along the path on the right and dropping down till you encounter two more enemies.

Take them down and drop off the ledge on the left. Dash to the left before falling into the spike pit.

Go left again and slowly descend along the left wall.

You’ll spot a hole on the right that you can enter as you slide down.

This brings you to a chamber where you can fight another big enemy for the Bladebeast Breathcrown.

Go back out of the chamber and drop down. You’ll see another hole on the right that you can enter.

Follow this path and head down. Then continue going right. You’ll spot some more enemies huddled around an item. Take them out and pick up the free Dropot Runner Container.

Go right and jump to the wall. Scale the wall for a Thin Marah Strand, then drop down and follow the path to the right.

You need to go up again using the grapple points while avoiding the spikes.

Head left once you reach the top and drop down to a chamber to find the second Seal for the zone.
Reaching The Learning Paint Surrogate

After activating the second Seal drop-down from the left edge of the platform, keep heading left to return to the large chamber from earlier. Take out the enemies in the area.

Go all the way to the left and drop down the platform to spot a path heading down and right. This is the main path.
However, before you move on, I suggest exploring the upper area of this section. There are a lot of items scattered in the upper sections, but each of them requires some form of platforming.

You can use Burst Jump from the center of the area to reach a grapple point above you. This will lead you to the Beastplate Hands.

The Beastplate Chest can be found by using the left-most grapple point and heading up to the platform.

After grabbing the Beastplate Chest, you can head further to the left and use the grapple point above you to start a small platforming section. This will lead you to the Beastplate Legs.

Use the map to clear out the area if you want to grab all the loot. But they are optional, and if they seem too annoying, you can simply move on.

Return to the lower path that you saw earlier and head down.

Keep moving forward along the path until you reach the edge of a cliff.

There’s an item stuck above you that you can break using Grasphook. Break the item so that it falls and jump to the left platform.

Take out the enemy, and instead of dropping down, go all the way to the left, jumping across the platforms to find two Bloodroot Splinters.

Return to the right platform where you broke the item free and drop down to fight some more enemies. Take them down and pick up the Chain Javelin.

Go left and drop down from the edge.

You’ll see some Atriums stuck to the ceiling on the right. Break it free and drop down after it.

Take out the enemies below and collect the Atriums.

Go right to fight a Galloping Dropot.

Head all the way to the left to fight some more enemies. You’ll also find two sets of Fragments on the ground.

Scale the wall on the left and continue heading left.

You’ll reach a section full of spikes. There are grappling points on the left that you can use to climb up. Alternatively, you can use the wall on the right to climb up and enter a hidden area where you can find another charge for Chain Javelin.

Once you get above the spikes, keep going left. You’ll soon reach a breakable wall.

Break the wall, but instead of heading through, use the grapple points about you to ascend through the zone.

When you reach the top, go left first.

You’ll be able to pick up a Thin Marah Strand and unlock the path back to the large chamber from earlier.

Go left this time to reach another breakable wall. Break it and then climb up using the wall and the grapple points.

Continue heading left to find The Learning Paint Surrogate. From here, if you keep going left and down, you’ll eventually drop into a large arena where you’ll face the main boss of this region.
Unlocking the Eastern Part of Nailglade (Optional)

If you don’t care much for loot, you can also reach The Learning Paint Surrogate much faster and unlock the eastern part of Nailglade as well in the process. You’ll have to start from the area marked in the image above.

It’s to the right and down from the Knight’s Cave Surrogate. Instead of taking the right path, we’ll be heading down.

You’ll reach a tunnel. From here, you’ll want to head right first to fight some enemies.

Go past the enemies and drop through the platform to find the Pitcher Vanguard lying on the ground. You can talk to him for some additional dialogue. If you keep heading right, you’ll end up on the main path that we took earlier.

So instead, jump back up and keep going left until you reach a platform you can drop through. Head down.

Keep following the tunnel. The area is pretty linear. You’ll spot a breakable wall past a Chain Javelin on the floor. Break the door to open the eastern part of Nailglade. You can explore the area now, or leave it for later.

For now, keep heading left until you reach the edge. Then drop down and use grapple mid-air to grab the Bloodroot Splinter as you fall.

Once you reach the bottom, head right, following the hands.

Break the wall up ahead to find yourself back at the chamber with The Learning Paint Surrogate. This is a much shorter path to the boss, but it will cause you to miss out on a lot of the loot on your first time through the area.

Save your progress at the Surrogate, and follow the path to the left. As you drop down through an opening, you’ll enter the boss arena.
How to Beat the Blade Mammoth

The Blade Mammoth is a mandatory boss guarding the eastern entrance to Blade Garden. It has a giant crescent moon-shaped blade on its face that it uses to hit the player using both ranged and melee attacks. The boss also has spikes on its belly and positioning yourself under the boss will cause you to take damage constantly because of that.

The Blade Mammoth has a variety of devastating attacks, but most of them can be dash-countered or parried if you get the timing right. You can stagger it pretty easily, giving you an opening to dish out damage.

However, make sure you watch out for its slam attacks that create a shockwave along the ground. You can’t simply jump over the shockwave. You also have to do an air dash to not take any damage. Sometimes the shockwave will have a tall vine trail that you need to dash through.

Some of its shockwave attacks have a delayed effect that triggers them a second time. You’ll see a green glow on the ground when that happens.

While the boss does have a second phase when the music changes, the overall fight essentially remains the same. It gains a few new attacks, where it launches the blade from a distance using a chain. You can usually dash into the blades once it sinks to the ground to stagger the boss.
You can gain two Breath Charges when fighting the boss, so playing it safe is a good idea. Back away and heal up when you take some damage because of a mistake, and try to get the boss’s HP down below the Breath Mold to gain a free Breath Charge.

After defeating the boss, absorb its Mold to unlock Rage Vulnerability.
Reaching Blade Garden Eastern Entrance

Once the boss is down, head right first and break the wall to connect the arena with the rest of the Jagged Forest.

Go all the way to the left next. Drop through the platform to enter a tunnel.

Keep following the tunnel. There are no items or enemies here. Continue moving until you spot a breakable wall.

Keep going past the wall until you enter Blade Garden. You’ll spot an NPC up ahead. Stop before the NPC.
We’ll pick up the rest in the next part of our walkthrough.
