Ready to dive into Hollow Knight: Silksong? Our walkthrough will guide you through Hornet’s journey across Pharloom step by step—covering everything from tricky platforming sections and hidden secrets to boss fights and exploration tips. Whether you’re here to get unstuck or just want a smoother path through the kingdom, we’ve got you covered.
In this part of the walkthrough, we cover the introductory area Moss Grotto and fight the Moss Mother.

Act 1 : Pharloom
After the gorgeous opening cutscene, you will wake up in a lush green area. Press the appropriate key to bind. This will get you your weapon, Needle.
Head to the left and clear the vines blocking your way – using the attack button.
Moss Grotto
Kill the small caterpillar you see here and pick up the Shell Shards. Keep moving to the left. Holding jump down allows you to jump further.
Cross the small pond. Climb up once you reach the left landing.
There is a flying bug on the right platform, take it out. Drop down and take the large shell shard here.
Bind with it and move to the right. Another flying bug will be in your way. Climb up the ledge here.
On top you will find a Mossberry. Drop down, clear the area of larvaes and exit to the right. In the next area, you will be overcome by cramps. Once it clears, keep going. Once you reach the chasm, drop down to the ledge. You will find a Frayed Rosary String.
Drop down to the area where you landed. Go back to the small pond you crossed earlier and go under the skeletal bridge. Go through to the other side.
Get rid of the small larvae here and clear the vines up top to connect this area to the main area. On top you will find more Shell Shards.
Go back to where we dropped down from and cross the chasm. Keep going to exit the area. In the next area, go to the right and go up.
Take the first path to the left and clear the larva there. Go to the top and you will see a Mossberry that you can’t reach. Go to the left from here.
In the next area, keep going till you reach the vines and clear a path through.
Ruined Chapel
In the next area, another bout of cramps will cripple Hornet. Keep moving. You will find a bench up ahead. Rest here to heal and save. Go up and clear the vines to get through.
Boss: Moss Mother
You will now fight the game’s first boss – Moss Mother.
She has three basic moves.
- She will dash at you and you need to jump over that attack and slash at here.
- She will hit the top of the stage to drop three stones that you can easily avoid.
- She will hit the top of the stage to drop two larvae.
Avoid all the stones and the larvae and jump over her attack. Hit her once and move away – don’t overcommit. If you get hit, hold bind to heal. Video of the boss fight below.
If you go to the left now, you can ascend to the upper level. Once again, another cramp attack. Keep moving and you will pass out. Once you wake up talk to the Chapel Maid and you will have a new objective. The Great Citadel.
