Homura Hime Walkthrough Part One: Prologue

Homura Hime Prologue

Think about a fusion of Devil May Cry and anime, not Adi Shankar’s adaptation, but a video game with a not-so-unique art style. Homura Hime is just that. Developed by Crimson Dusk and published by PLAYISM, the game takes the generic Shrine Maiden anime trope and adds a touch of hack-and-slash, including a parrying mechanic and battle rating system. If you haven’t heard about the game before, make sure to check out their Steam page for further information.

Since it’s a hack-and-slash game, there are numerous skills to unlock and secrets to explore throughout its world. Here, in this guide, I will provide you with a complete walkthrough of Homura Hime from beginning to end, starting with the Prologue.

Meeting Homura Hime and Ann

Homura Hime Prologue
Ann and Homura Hime Are Having a Conversation Before they Begin Practicing.

You are Homura Hime, a strong asset of the High Priestess, who is to defeat the five demon girls that pose a threat to the world’s peace and existence as a whole. Before you can be entrusted with this mission, Ann, the strongest demon exorcist in the world, puts your strength to the test and takes you to the field for a challenge.

This challenge will serve as your tutorial to the combat and game mechanics.

Combos and Parrying

Introducing the Combo Mechanics to the Players.

Following the staple of hack-and-slash, Homura can execute light and heavy attacks to deal devastating damage to her enemies. However, seamless combos by mixing both attacks aren’t possible; it breaks the chain, but can provide you with a big combat rating boost by sprinkling multiple unique attacks.

Parrying Mechanic.

Complete the training’s first segment, and then Ann tells you about parrying. Like Sekiro, parrying is all about attack rhythms. Wait for the enemy’s attack to blink red, and time your parry.

Blessed Shots and Breaking Miasmic Shields

Homura is Looking at a Demonic Bird.

Numerous enemies are covered in bubbles called the Miasmic Shields. To break them, the game introduces Blessed Shots, which can be shot immediately and consume the bar under your health. If you’re wondering about their availability, Blessed Shots are borderline unlimited as their bar regenerates almost immediately.

Ending Tutorial

Homura is Battling Against Two Demons Covered in Miasmic Shields and a Demonic Bird.

After learning the basics, demons break through the reality. Now, use everything you have learned to defeat the demons and ultimately complete the tutorial. Remember to maintain a variety in attacks to achieve a higher combat score; it’s mandatory for achievement hunting.

Note: If the game crashes after the prologue, restart it and reload your save file to continue.

How to Unlock New Combos in Homura Hime – Mihare Shrine

The Outside of Mihare Shrine.

Once the tutorial ends, Ann leads Homura to the Mihare Shrine, which serves as the hub area of the game. Buy upgrades/combos, rest, and continue the story from this Shrine.

To unlock new combos, talk to Kushinada, the yellow-haired girl inside the Shrine. With the points you gain from defeating enemies, use them to purchase seamlessly executable combos. To gain points faster, try to achieve higher combat ratings in battle.

Kushinada – The Shopkeeper of Mihare Shrine.

After talking to everyone in Mihare Shrine, head to the great torii gate and continue the story. Before reaching the gate, a fading soul will ask you to bring it White Flowers; it is a side quest.

This ends the prologue guide for Homura Hime. From here, the next part of the story begins.
