Welcome to the first part of our walkthrough for I Hate This Place.
The game starts with Lou performing a ritual to summon The Horned One. After the cutscene, Lou disappears, and Elena finds herself alone in the dark forest.

Reaching The Underground Bunker

When the opening cutscene ends, loot the container right in front of you.

Collect the Bandage Blueprint from the bench up ahead. You can use the campfire next to the bench to craft some Bandages.

When you’re ready, start heading north. You’ll soon reach a trail of red tendrils on the ground. Follow the trail.

Up ahead, you’ll find some crates blocking your path. Break them using your Baseball Bat. This is the only weapon you have at this point.

Loot the crates for some Wood, Nails, and Scrap. Continue heading further north.

Eventually, you’ll reach a large metal door with “Keep Out!!” written on it. The door takes you to the first bunker. Ignore the warning and head inside.

You’ll spot an NPC wearing a mask as you enter the bunker. Speak with him. He’ll introduce himself as Adam, and he’ll serve as your “guide through hell“.
Restoring The Power

After speaking with Adam, continue forward through the bunker. You’ll pass through a corridor to arrive in front of a metal door.

The door straight ahead is locked, and so is the one on the left. Crawl under the wooden beam on the right.

Go through the door to enter The Lab.

The first thing you’ll notice as you enter this section is that the power is out. Elena needs to find a way to fix that.

Go into the room on the right at the end of the corridor. The door in front of you is locked till you restore the power.

Loot the container for some Tash Cans and Canned Beans.

The red door on the other side of the room is locked.

You’ll find a vent on the right side wall, near the door. Crouch down and head through the vent.
The vent leads you into the room behind the red door. There are several containers here that you can loot.

When you’re ready, interact with the generator here to turn the power on.

When the power comes on, head out through the red door. Then interact with the computer.

Exit the room to find Adam waiting for you. The big door from earlier is now open after interacting with the computer.

Speak with Adam. He’ll tell you (in his own cryptic way) that the enemies up ahead will respond to your sound. So you’ll want to move as quietly as possible.

Before you enter through the large door, go into the room on the left through the door.

This takes you to a safe zone. Loot the area for some useful crafting materials and items. Then interact with the TV to save your progress.
Finding a Weapon

Return to Adam and head through the large door. Crouch down so that you make less noise while moving.

Note the moving red tendrils on the left.
If you make a sound, the tendrils will grab you and pull you towards it. You can attack them to break free or shoot them from a distance. But the best way to deal with them is to just move slowly.

Head across the room and interact with the door to reach the next section.

In the next room, you’ll find a blueprint for the Snub Nose (revolver) and 9x19mm Ammo on the wall. Pick it up.

You can spot a revolver inside the shelf up ahead. But you’ll need a code for it. Loot the container right next to you for some revolver ammo.

Continue left along the bridge (remember to move slowly) and inspect the note beside the body. The note gives you the code for the locked shelf.
Return to the shelf and use the code (1111) to unlock it and pick up the Snub Nose. You now have a proper weapon to defend yourself.

Go across the bridge on the left, past the body. You’ll spot an enemy blocking your path.

Use your revolver to shoot the yellow spot on its back. This is a weakpoint.

You can continue shooting the enemy to take it down or just run past it toward the door to reach the next zone. It won’t chase you into the next room.
Finding The Westwing Key

The next zone is filled with a lot of glass on the floor. Crouching over the glass still makes a lot of noise. So you’ll have to be careful.

You’ll find Adam waiting in the corridor once you cross the room.

Speak with him and then continue through the door past Adam. You’ll reach another safe room. Check the monitor next to the operating table for a note.

Loot all the containers in the area. Head into the room at the top to find a Nail Bomb Blueprint.

There’s also a Workbench here that you can use to craft new items. Use it to craft some ammo for your Snub Nose.

Head through the door on the left side of the room to reach the next section.

Crouch down to move slowly as you head toward the open doorway. There’s a red tendril on the left that will attack you if you make too much noise.

There are some items in the next room that you can loot. But be careful of the red tendril in the small room on your left. Once you’re done looting, go in through the vent marked in the image above.

Follow the vent to the end to exit to the other side of the room.

Keep moving forward slowly. Collect the Sawed Off (Shotgun) and 12 Gauge Buckshot Blueprint on the wall and loot the container.

You’ll find the Westwing Key inside this container.

Continue moving forward to find a door that you can open with the Westwing Key.

This door leads you back to the starting area of the Bunker. From here, you can either make your way back to the Workbench from earlier to craft the Sawed Off, or continue along the left path to reach the Staff zone.
Finding The Hand Saw

As you enter the next zone, crouch down immediately. The area up ahead is patrolled by a monster that responds to noise. But thankfully, they don’t have eyes, so they can’t see you.

Go southeast to find a door leading to another section. Head through the door.

Continue forward slowly. There’s another one of those monsters here. After coming down the ramp, go up and through the door with the green signal light. The door with the white light is locked for now.

There’s a gate at the end of the room, but it requires a four-digit code.

Return to the earlier room and then check the opposite side of the room. There are two doors here, but only the one with the green signal light is unlocked. Go into the room.

There’s a Workbench here, along with some containers you can loot. Use the Workbench to craft the Sawed Off if you haven’t already.

Exit the room and this time, move along the corridor where the monster is patrolling. Wait for the monster to go to the central section of the room before you go into the corridor.

You’ll spot two doors up ahead. The open door on the right has glasses on the floor. So open the door on the left and head inside. Close it behind you so that the monster can’t follow you.

Check the container in the corner of the room. The valve will start blowing out steam, but it won’t hurt you. On the right, you’ll find an air vent. Head into it and follow it to the end.

You’ll find a body at the other end of the vent. Inspect it to find a code. This is the code for the gate we saw in the first room of the zone.

Make your way back to the room through the corridor with the patrolling monster. Use the code (0451) to open the gate and head through.

This takes you to a large empty room filled with machines. Head toward the screens at the end of the room. Interact with the computer once the eyes disappear from the screen.

This turns on the power for this zone. Check the container on the left for a Hand Saw. Then use the save point on the right to save your progress and go back to the previous zone.
Finding The Sawed-Off Hand

Now that the power is back on, you can access the room behind the two locked doors with the white signal light. However, both of these rooms have a monster inside them.

You can use a Trash Can to lure the monster away and loot the room for some extra crafting materials or items.

When you’re ready, head back towards the exit to return to the first room of the Staff section. This time, you’ll head left.

Wait for the monster to move away and head through the door past the Section 02 sign.

You can spot a door up ahead. But before you head in, slowly crouch into the small room beside you.

You’ll find a First Aid Kit and a Bandage along with some Ammo in the room.
Go out through the small hole and head through the door to reach the next section.

The next zone is a bit trickier. There’s another monster here, but it’s bigger and faster. It also does a lot of damage.

It’s still blind, so moving slowly will still work. However, the zone has some bombs that explode when you get near them. Use Trash Cans to lure the monster away before you go forward.

Head to the top right corner of the room to spot a vent you can go through. If the monster starts chasing you, just sprint toward the vent and go inside. It won’t be able to chase you.

Head through the vent into the next room. Since we already have the Hand Saw, we can interact with the body to collect the Sawed- Off Hand.

Loot the area for some items. Then, exit the room through the door and get past the monster to return to the first room of the Staff zone.
Finding A Way Out of the Bunker

In the room with the patrolling monster, you’ll find a small vent that you can crouch through. We’ve marked it in the image above.

The breaker box here controls the big door on the left. There are two monsters, including the one from earlier,r patrolling this zone. You need to figure out a way to get them out of the way.

Interact with the breaker box. Then throw a Trash Can out the broken window into the first part of the room. Then quickly use the breaker box again to lock the monsters out.

It’s easier said than done, and if things turn south, you can always make a run for it. Use the Sawed-Off Hand on the fingerprint reader in the far corner of the room.

Crouch under the junk after going through the door to get away from the monster.

Adam will already be waiting for you. Talk to him, and he’ll tell you that Lou was never here.

After the conversation, use the ladder to exit the Bunker.
Heading To The Rutherford Ranch

Continue moving forward. You’ll see some green shimmers on the road. Use them as your guide and keep going along the path to reach the Rutherford Ranch.

Once you reach the Ranch, head towards the main door and interact with it to head inside.

You’ll meet Aunt Marilyn inside. Run through her dialogues and ask her about the Bunkers and the Cult.

Go into the room on the left. Check the note on the table. After that, save your progress and interact with the bed to rest. This also triggers a short cutscne.
