Welcome to the third part of our walkthrough for I Hate This Place.
Uncle Spencer mentioned a Church in the middle of the Swamp. Maybe the priest knows where we can find Lou.

Finding the Church in the Swamp
From the Ranch, the first thing you want to do is open up your Diary and check your Quests tab. Now that you’ve solved the mystery of Eddie’s disappearance and talked to Uncle Spencer, you’ll find a new quest: Where the Bell Tolls.
Click on the quest and check your map to see where to go.
Exit the ranch from the eastern gate and continue down the path.
You’ll reach another broken bridge. Repair it using 7x Wood.
Cross the bridge to enter the Swamp. You’ll find Adam waiting just on the other side of the bridge. Talk to him.
Run through all his dialogues. This will give you a few more side quests and another objective for the Where the Bell Tolls.
Stay on the path and continue moving forward. When you see a bright light, get on the side of the road.
A car will zoom past you and crash at the end of the road. Go toward the car. Be careful of the Hands (red tendril) in the area up ahead
The area up ahead is a small junkyard filled with Hands. You can slowly make your way through the area to find a body with some useful items on it.
Get back to the main path and continue following the road. As you reach the fork, you’ll spot a small cabin on your left.
There’s also a dock here that you can use to fast travel back to the farm.
Enter the small cabin. This is a safe zone where you can rest, save your progress, and craft anything you need for the journey ahead.
Rest if needed, then exit the cabin and keep heading along the main path.
You’ll soon reach the steps of the Church. Keep going forward to trigger a cutscene as you meet Father Matthew.
Once the cutscene ends, head inside the Church and speak with Father Matthew.
Go into the small room on the right at the end of the church. This is another safe zone. Check the table for two more Blueprints (First Aid Kit, Fence). Save your progress before heading out.
Finding The Lost Cultist (Where The Bell Tolls)
After speaking to Father Matthew in the Church, head outside. Continue moving forward until you see the rock with Keep Out Written on it on your right. From here, you need to turn left toward the Swamp.
There are some Mutated Cultists here that you’ll need to watch out for. Unlike the Mobs and Centaurs that you faced in the first Bunker, they can actually see you. But this is exactly why we stocked up on Ammo when we left the Ranch!
Continue along the wooden bridge up ahead.
Take down the two Mutated Cultists and keep moving forward.
You’ll reach a patch of dry land. There’s another enemy on your left, but you can sneak past this one. Use the bridge on the right to go forward.
As you move along the bridge, you’ll see another Ghost running through the swamp. This is related to the Half Truths quest that you got from talking to Adam earlier. We’ll work our way back to this quest in a bit.
Continue moving and take down the Mutated Cultists at the end of the bridge.
Hug the left side of the land once you get off the bridge and go forward. You’ll spot another bridge up ahead as Elena says to look for the Lost Cultist.
Get on the bridge and turn left at the fork
This will take you to a small cabin. Loot the container nearby and head inside the cabin.
The cabin is filled with Spider Eggs. But you can hear the Lost Cultist asking for help.
Take down the Spiderlings and head through the trapdoor. The container on the left requires a code to open, but there’s nothing important inside it anyways.
As you head through the trapdoor, you’ll find the Lost Cultist waiting for you. Check the table on the left first to pick up the Submachine Gun Blueprint.
Talk to the Lost Cultist. Elena will send him back to the Church.
Sawmill Worker Quest Walkthrough (Half Truths)
How to Find the Sawmill
Exit the cabin and use the bridge to return to the start of the bridge. From here, you need to take the path that leads into the water.
Keep moving forward along the water.
Eventually, you’ll reach a gate with a broken bridge leading out of it. Head in through the gate to the area on the right.
Loop around to the other side of the area to spot a glowing table saw. You’ll have to interact with it to start the Ghost Story.
But before you do that, pick up the Blueprint from the table on the west. This gives you the Spiked Bat Blueprint, a massive upgrade for your Baseball Bat.
With that out of the way, interact with the table saw to start the Ghost Story.
Finding Out What Happened To the Sawmill Worker
Pick up the Flashlight from the table up ahead.
Shine the Flashlight straight ahead at the red tendrils to reveal a path forward. Crouch down through the hole and keep moving forward.
Inspect all the clues up ahead. We’ve marked them in the image above.
Head west along the path. A Ghost, similar to the Horned Deers from Eddie’s quest, will rush toward you. Use your Flashlight to dispel it.
Continue following the path, dispelling two more Ghosts, and you’ll soon enter through a door. There are three more clues here that you can inspect.
Return to the table saw in the first area, and this time head along the eastern path. Follow the tendrils on the ground.
You’ll reach a dark corridor filled with tendrils and invisible obstacles. Use your Flashlight to pass through this section.
Inspect the distiller up ahead. Then head through the door.
Inspect the Horned Mask and the Revolver. You now have all the clues you need to figure out who killed the Sawmill Worker.
Make your way back to the starting area. Two Ghosts will spawn behind you as you enter the corridor filled with tendrils. Use your Flashlight to take them down.
Interact with the door behind the table saw and choose your answer. The correct answer is “The Gang Shot Him“.
Loot the container when you’re back in the Swamp to find the Buzz Saw and Distillery Blueprint.
Heading Back to the Church
Now that we’re done with both quests, we’ll need to make our way back to the Church. Head inside and go forward to trigger a short cutscene.
After the cutscene, talk to both Father Matthew and Terry, the Cultist you rescued earlier.
Ask Father Matthew about the Bunkers, and he’ll tell you that there’s one near the Church. He’ll also hand you a Rope and ask that you look for someone called Doctor Vermer.
Terry, on the other hand, adds a new objective to the Where the Bell Tolls quest and asks you to look for his wife’s ghost near the grain fields.
Save your progress, return to the Ranch to stock up on supplies, and rest up. We’ll be heading into the Flooded Bunker next.
