Welcome to the fifth part of our walkthrough for I Hate This Place.
Exploring the Flooded Bunker raised more questions than it answered regarding the experiments with The Horned Man’s DNA. But Father Matthew tells us that there’s another bunker to the north of the farm.

Finding the Cultists in The Grain Fields

Return to the Rutherford Ranch. By now, you’ve unlocked plenty of new buildings in the Construction Workbench. It’s a good idea to set a few of these projects in motion before moving on. Also, take a moment to replenish your ammo and supplies.

When you’re ready, exit the Ranch from the exit near the Dock and head north. We’ll be heading through the barricade we burned back when we were fixing up the place.
This takes you to the Fields, a new section of the map. There are a bunch of different things we have to do in this zone. But first, we’re gonna go see the cultists near the bonfire.

If you run into any Mutated Deers, take them down. They are tanky and can charge at you. But you can move out of the way easily.

Set the quest Our Most Sacred Offering active in your Diary and follow the map marker to find the cultists.

You’ll find them on the east, past the first fork as you enter the Fields.

When you reach the map marker, you’ll find two Cultists standing beside a half-built pyre. The one on the left is Cassie, and the other is Nat.

Talk to Cassie. She’ll tell you about a weird hole north of the Fields. She thinks it’s an underground facility where her two brothers are kept. This will unlock the quest Twin’s Fate in your diary.

Talk to Nat next. You can ask her about Lou and the Bonfire.

When talking about Bonfire, she asks for your help in gathering some more wood for the pyre. If you’ve got 5x Wood to spare, interact with the pyre to complete it and talk to Nat again.

This time, she’ll ask you to look for a Black Goat running rampant in the area. This updates the Our Most Sacred Offering quest with a new task.
Exploring The Fields

After talking to the Cultists, head east and then north along the path. The first spot you’ll reach is a Treehouse. The map will update as you get closer to it.

There’s a boat Dock nearby. Use the rope ladder to head into the Treehouse.

This is a safe zone and has a Save Point and a Bed that you can use to rest. Interact with the writing on the wall to get a Sketch entry in your Diary.

Exit the Treehouse, continue heading north till you reach the train tracks. Going further north takes you to an Orchard. There’s nothing to find here, but it does add a marker to your map.
You can break the crates in the area for some useful crafting materials, but that’s about it.

Follow the train tracks and head west. You’ll spot a locked wooden gate above you. You can also see some Hands in the section above and a Blueprint table.

Continue heading west and go up to find the entrance to the section.

Take out the Hands in the area as you carefully make your way inside. There are three Hands that you’ll have to take out.

The Blueprint table gives you a Water Tower Blueprint and a Hay Wagon Blueprint. Both of these are just decorations.

You can unlock the gates that were locked earlier from inside. The door to the house in this area is locked for now. But Elena gives you some dialogue when you interact with it.

Exit the section and return to the train track. This time we’ll head south.

Continue walking down till you reach a fork. From here, head east first.

You’ll reach a Harvester as you keep moving forward. This is another marked spot on the map.
The Container here will give you the Parts Blueprint. If you come here at night, you can trigger a spooky event.
Finding Philip, The Black Goat

Return to the fork and this time head west. You’ll find Philip, the Black Goat, as soon as you enter the fenced area.

Go up a few steps and loot the table to get the Flare Gun and Flare Blueprints.

When you’re ready, interact with Philip, the Black Goat.

This screen will go black for a few seconds. When it comes back, you’ll see two Mutated Cultists right in front of you. Take them down.

Philip is gone, but there’s another goat nearby. Interact with it. We can now return to the Cultists near the bonfire, but there are a few more things to wrap up before we head back.
Reaching the Railway Building

Head west and exit the area.

Move northwest along the path, and a Ghost will run past you. This is the Ghost of Terry’s Wife. The Ghost Story is nearby, but don’t follow the ghost just yet.

Keep heading north till you reach the train tracks. From here, head up and go left to reach a building. The main door is open, and you can head inside.

This takes you to the Railway Building safe zone. This area has a Container, a Save Point, a Bed, a Stove, and a Workbench. Save your progress and restock on your supplies.
Completing Our Most Sacred Offering (Bonfire Quest)

Use the Railway Building’s Bed to set the time to morning and return to the bonfire. Speak with Nat and tell her about the goat.

After some dialogues, the ritual will begin.

When it ends, you’ll find yourself transported to a different part of the map. There are fallen cultists leaning against the bonfire and red tendrils on the ground.

You’ll also find three Mutated Cultists and a Hazmat-Suit enemy nearby. Take them down using the weapons you have.

After taking them down, you’ll hear a voice coming from the bonfire.

Wait a few second and you’ll be back at the Fields, near the bonfire. The NPC standing in front of you is Maggie, the leader of the Cultists.

She mentions another mine and gives you a new quest (Less Than Chaff In The Breeze), but that doesn’t come in till later. You’ll also get a few Mining Explosives and the Blueprint for them from Maggie after her dialogue ends.
Terry’s Wife Quest (Show Goes On Walkthrough)

Return to the Railway Building and rest. Since we’re heading into a Ghost Story, we’ll have to change the time to night. Exit the building and head south. You’ll spot the ghost of the lady again.

Follow the ghost to find a ringing telephone. Interact with it to start the Ghost Story.

Pick up the Flashlight.

The trees in front of you will disappear, opening a path for you.

From here, you’ll have to run. Follow the arrow markers and don’t stop running. You can sprint without running out of stamina since it’s a Ghost Story. Giant Spider ghosts will chase you as you keep running.

Don’t stop and try to fight them. Just keep running till you reach a house and head inside.

Answer the ringing telephone to talk to Bug. When the conversation ends, you’ll find a note on the counter. Read it for your first clue.

Run along the corridor and enter the room with the open door.

Answer the ringing telephone again and choose Not Really.

The door on the right will open after the conversation. Head through to return to the main room of the hotel.

Use the elevator to go to Floor 1. Floor 2 can’t be accessed just yet.

There’s another open door on Floor 1. Head inside.

Answer the ringing telephone. Regardless of what you choose, three of the bookshelves in the room will transform into Giant Spiders.

Fight them off using your Flashlight.

Check the note on the center table for your next clue and head back outside.

Return to the elevator and head to Floor 2. Answer the ringing telephone.

Read the note on the table in the left corner for another clue.

Head all the way to the right and then up to spot a door. Go through the door.

Read the note on the frontseat near the stage.

Then head toward the door behind where the ghost was standing and interact with it. The correct answer is “The Ghost is a Dead Acress And The Victim“.

Loot the container when you’re back in the Fields to find the Firecracker Blueprint.

Now that you know the fate of Terry’s Wife, return to the Church in the Swamp zone and speak to Terry. Choose the options “Holding Someone Captive” and “Tell Him Where The House Is” to complete the questline.
Wrapping Up The Fields

Return to the Railway Building safe zone in the Fields. From here, exit the building and walk east along the train track. You’ll see an opening in the fence leading north.

Head north past the grain field to spot a giant hole in the ground. This is the same hole that Cassie was talking about earlier and leads to the Northern Bunker. But you’ll need a Rope to access it.

Make your way east from the Railway Building. If you’re travelling at night, the car will turn on and speed down the path, so move out of the way.

Keep following the path. There will be some Jumping Spiders along the way. Take them down.

You’ll find another Dock at the end of the path. This pretty much wraps up the zone. So you can head back to the Ranch to check in on your supplies before you head down to the Northern Bunker.
