Welcome to Part 2 of Into Indie Games’ walkthrough for Kill the Shadow.
After the standoff at the blockade and learning more about the factory workers, Lucas finally sets off to the North. He arrives at the Pig Cage Walled City in search of Uncle Smith. But it doesn’t take too long for him to get pulled into the power struggle within the city.

Exploring The Wharf Marketplace

The chapter begins with Lucas arriving at the busy Wharf of the Pig Cage Walled City. Apparently, the Old City District has been abandoned, and currently everyone lives here.

Make your way forward, exploring the western side of the Wharf first. You can eavesdrop on people sitting at the tables for some flavor text and information about the area.

You’ll spot a person cooking a meal for a customer. This is an important character known simply as Fisherman’s Wharf Owner. For now, just let the event play out and talk to him afterward.

You can check the store with the vending machines past the Owner for some consumables.
Meeting Kiki and Max

There’s a wooden bridge heading further west past the shop. Take the bridge, and you’ll run into two siblings, Max and Kiki, who are apparently waiting for a guy in a Black Trenchcoat. You’ll agree to help them out.

Continue across the bridge, and you’ll eavesdrop on some more people who got stopped by the butler at the entrance of Reed Mansion despite having Fair Tickets.

You can’t take the stairs leading up to the Reed Mansion from here as there’s a guard blocking the path.

As you head back, you’ll be able to talk to a man fishing at the Wharf and ask about the man in Black Trenchcoat. He’ll mention that the kids were late and there was, in fact, a person waiting for them. This will earn you a Shadow Shard.

Talk to the people playing at the mahjong table nearby and ask about the man in a Black Trenchcoat. You’ll learn that the man said something about trying his luck at the Old County Office. You can also ask them about Kiki and Max, and they’ll tell you about a fight that the siblings had with the Fisherman’s Wharf Owner.

Talk to the Fisherman’s Wharf Owner next and ask him about the two kids. He’ll say that they loitered in his store.

Two dialog options will unlock. I suggested the Owner checks his pocket. He’ll tell you that his Pack of Cigarettes is missing.

Go inside the store again and investigate the area near the vending machine.

You’ll notice that the poster next to the vending machine can be moved, revealing a peeping hole on the wall.

Talk to The Shadow, and we came to the conclusion that Max and Kiki were, in fact, peeping.

You’ve got all the Shadow Shards you need to Rewind the event.

Go back and talk to the siblings afterward. Ask them why they were following the man in Black Trenchcoat. They’ll confess that they found him shady and wanted to take back what was theirs.
I decided that I could trust them since Max could steal anything else, but he only stole a pack of cigarettes to get his revenge on the Fisherman’s Wharf Owner. This is as far as we can progress the questline for now. But the siblings will play an important role later on.
Accepting Junior’s Class Notes

Return to the place where you arrived and check the northern area. You’ll come across a child scolding another child named Dudly. He says he has a gift for Celestia.

When you get a chance to speak, ask about the Priestess to learn more about Celestia.

Talk to Junior after the incident, and he’ll convince you to help deliver the Class Notes to the Priestess.
Finding Uncle Smith

Head up the bridge past Junior’s shop, and you’ll spot an old man fishing at the Wharf. Talk to him. He’ll give you a Fishing Rod. You can fish right now if you want.

As you approach the platform past the old man, a shirtless man calls you over. This is Chiffon, and right now he’s asking you to distract Junior so that he can steal the fruit. I refused to help, and this improved our relationship with him. Note the store next to Chiffon.

For now, head down the alley to the right. The path up the stairs is blocked. So head to the area under the overpass.

Talk to the two men standing near the half-closed shutter. When they get aggressive, I decided to strike first. I got 100 Money for it, and they backed down.

You can also talk to the group of people at the dock nearby and help get a part-time job here for some extra cash.

Return to where you talked with Chiffon, and enter the store next to him. A voice calls you from the shadow.

This is Uncle Smith. You’ve found him.

After a heartfelt reunion and some drinks, Uncle Smith tells you how the entire city is in a volatile state because of Master Reed‘s disappearance. Eventually, you’ll get the option to rewind to enter a flashback.
Reed Village Flashback

Selecting Rewind takes you back 10 years when you first met Officer Smith as a rookie cop.

As a rookie, you’re sent to help out on the investigation regarding the homicide case of Reed Village.

After talking with Officer Smith, head inside the temple and inspect the victim’s body on the ground.

Officer Smith walks in at this point and tells you to look for clues around the crime scene.

From inspecting the victim’s body, I understood that the victim didn’t resist.

From the broken table nearby, I concluded that a fight broke out after the victim died.

Next, inspect the two rooms on each side of the idol.

With that, you’ll have all four Shadow Shards and can play the Reed Village Speculation.

Speak with Officer Smith afterward and run through the dialogue. Lucas senses that something is off here and keeps getting worked up.

After the Flashback event, run through the dialogue with Uncle Smith in the present timeline. Eventually, he’ll head over to Reed Mansion.

But as he leaves, he falls off the Wharf into the water. A lady in a black dress comes and helps him up.

This is Mrs. Reed, wife of the late Master Reed. Run through the dialogue as Officer Smith makes the introductions.

After they walk off, Chiffon starts talking with you. Tell him about Officer Smith, and your relationship with him will improve. Eventually, this starts the storyline Priestess’s Curse.
Entering Reed Mansion

Try following the path to the left past the store. The Butler of Reed will stop you, and even if you succeed the Skill Check, he’ll refuse to let you through.

Go back the way you came. Up ahead, Chiffon will talk to you again. If you ask for help, he’ll tell you that carrying a fish and presenting it as an offering is an easy way to enter the Mansion.

Head back to the Fisherman’s Wharf Owner and take a look at his shop. Purchase a Sacrificial Fish from him for 25 Money. You can do part-time jobs or search around trashcans to find the Money you need.

Return to the Butler of Reed. As you approach, you’ll see Chiffon making a scene inside the Reed Mansion. After a while, he moves over to the Opera Theater. When asked, I chose to side with Chiffon.

Once the commotion dies down, talk to the Butler of Reed and tell him that you’re here for Tribute. He’ll let you in, but asks you to go to the Temple first.
The Priestess Temple

Head left and go to the front of the Temple. You can inspect a note on a desk here. Talk to the two people smoking nearby first.

Ask them about the Priestess Temple, and they’ll ask you to knock harder.

Interact with the door and choose the Bang on the Door option to head inside.

Talk to the Priestess sitting at the Altar and then put down the fish.

Eventually, she’ll ask you to move the offerings on the table. Interact with all the objects at the table. A cutscene plays afterwards.

Ask if the Priestess is okay after the cutscene and then mention the Notes from Classes.

She will eventually ask you to bring Junior to the Temple. Agree to help and exit the Temple. You can now use the stairway near the temple.

Go all the way back to Junior’s Boat and speak with him. Then escort him back to the Temple and head inside.

Run through the dialogue and then make a Pinky Promise to complete this questline.

You’ll end up back outside at the Wharf. Choose the Skill Check option to gain the Secret Hideout Clue. Eventually, the Butler of Reed will come over accusing Junior of theft.

I decided to pay the Butler to prevent any more trouble. Eventually, Junior will walk away.
The Opera Theater

Head toward the Opera Theater in the Reed Mansion. Speak to the Old Man that Chiffon bumped into first. Then inspect the statue next to him.
You can wipe off the dust if you’ve got enough brawn for it.

Head into the Opera Theater where Chiffon is making a scene as always. Run through the dialogue, and eventually, he’ll ask you to deliver a Fruit Basket to Mr. Collins, the owner of the restaurant on the second floor.

Take the stairs to the river from the Theater. You’ll spot a boat. Inspect it.

Move the fish away to find a secret compartment where you’ll find some Money, and a Map. This will unlock a new Clue: The Secret Compartment.
There’s also a Homeless Person sitting under the bridge nearby. But there are no dialog options for him just yet.

Return to where you left the Butler of Reed, then take the nearby elevator to the second floor.

As soon as you reach the upper floor, you’ll see Officer Smith nearby speaking with Mrs. Reed.

Go and talk to Officer Smith, and he’ll show you Master Reed’s Suicide Note. He’ll also explain the power dynamic of the region and ask for your help in resolving the conflicts.

Return to the elevator and talk to the shirtless chef standing nearby. Deliver the Fruit Basket. We didn’t mention Chiffon’s name, as he wanted to stay anonymous.
Finding the Man in Black Trenchcoat

Now that we’re on the upper floor, we can help fulfill Kiki and Max‘s request. Head west by taking the bridge opposite the elevator and follow the path. You’ll pass by the Clinic.

Go all the way to the end of the path. You’ll spot a couple arguing about rings near the Jewellery Store. They’ll mention some homeless guy finding a Gold Ring in a fish’s belly. Take the elevator down.

You’ll find the man wearing a trench coat right next to the elevator. Talk to him and choose the option Sounds Familiar. Now you can return to Kiki and Max.

But before you do so, head toward the door to find Lily arguing with Rochester’s Butler. Let the event play out.

With that out of the way, make your way back to the siblings. Agree to take them to the man.

You’ll see something happen from a distance. When you can move, talk to Kiki sitting on the railing near the Jewellery Store.

Run through the conversation, and eventually, Max will open the door to the Jewellery Store.
The Jewellery Store

Head inside the store and inspect the Jewellery Display on the right.

Open the front cabinet and inspect the Invoice inside. This Invoice shows Mrs. Reed making a large purchase the day Master Reed disappeared.

Inspect the case on the other side of the store to find a second Shadow Shard.

Playback the event using the Rewind feature.

When you exit the event, you hear some footsteps outside. Max and Kiki rush away.

Head outside the store and talk to the store owner. Run through the conversation, and say that you chased the thieves away.
Delivering Max’s Package

Go down the stairs and follow the path. You’ll find Max on the floor. He’s been caught. I chose to save him. Max will give you a package.

You’ll find Kiki nearby where you shared a drink with Uncle Smith. Talk to her.

She’ll eventually offer to take you to Shipwreck Wharf if you can find them three Boat Tickets.
Both Kiki and Max have their roles to play in the future, but for now, we’ll head back to Mrs. Reed.
Interrogating Mrs. Reed

You’ll find Mrs. Reed in the Reed Mansion, on the balcony overlooking the Opera Theater. Talk to her when you’re ready.

Run through her dialogue. She’ll eventually ask which Datura is your favorite. I chose Red.

She’ll explain the events of the day of Master Reed’s disappearance.

You’ll be able to Rewind the incident based on her testimony.

Ask Mrs. Reed to repeat the incident. When she talks about the part about the Opera Stage, choose Wait.

Lucas finds a loophole, and you’ll get a new clue. Let the conversation run its course.
Inquiring about the Curse

Go and talk to the Butler of Reed and ask about the curse. He’ll ask for a favor in exchange.

Agree to hear him out, and he’ll ask you to check Mrs. Reed’s house to see if she was being unfaithful.

Talk to Chiffon next in the Opera Theater and ask about the curse. Run through his dialogue. You’ll learn of his suspicion that Master Reed was illiterate. We’ll leave the questline here for now.
Inspecting Mrs. Reed’s House

Go back to where you saw Mrs. Reed and take the stairs at the back to reach her house.

The door is locked. Who do you know with the skills to open a locked door?

Go back to Kiki and talk to her. Ask her to pick the lock for you.

After explaining the situation, she’ll insist on tagging along.

Use the Lockpicking Tool to enter the room. As you step inside, Kiki closes the door behind you, and you both get trapped inside.
Exploring Mrs. Reed’s Room

Inside Mrs. Reed’s room, you’ll find the locked Study room on the right. To access it, you’ll need to find a Key.

Investigate the cabinet in the living area.

You’ll find some money and photographs. Check the drawers. You’ll find a note inside. Read the note.

Head into the bedroom and investigate the safe. You’ll need a code.

The code is written on the newspaper you found inside the cabinet. January 1st, Year 355. Enter 35511. Pick up the Key and check the note. You’ll also find some Money.

The note is a Land Deed.

Inspect the wardrobe next and check everything. When talking to Kiki about the items, you’ll find a Torn Invoice.

When talking about the makeup, choose Probably Not to cause a Worldline Shift. You’ll find a suspicious bottle in Mrs, Reed‘s house.

Finally, when looking at the Fragment of Clothes, you’ll get a clue for the Priestess’s Curse storyline.
Examining The Study

Now that you’ve got the Key, head over to the other side of the room and use it to open the Study.

Talk with Kiki, and eventually, you’ll be able to investigate the scene.

Inspect the thick layer of dust and then turn on the table lamp.

Lucas thinks to himself for a while. When given the option, investigate the table again.

You’ll find nothing again. This time Shadow intervenes, and eventually Lucas decides to reenact everything.
If you’re following along, these are the options I went with:
- Turn on the desk lamp
- Wash the brush
- Dip the brush in ink
- Start writing

At this point, Lucas notices that it’s too dark to write. Investigate the table again.

Click on the Desk Lamp to move it to the left. Then choose Try Writing again. This is when Lucas notices the shadow.

Choose the option “He moved the desk lamp!“.

Then complete The Layout of the Desk clue from your Deduction tab.

Continue along the conversation, and eventually, you’ll have to complete the A Decorative Desk? clue as well.

Finally, complete the Was Master Reed Left-handed? clue.

Lucas and Kiki realize that Master Reed was illiterate and Mrs. Reed helped write the Suicide Note.

With that, you’ll find another major clue: The Forged Suicide Note. Leave the room using the Key via the front door when you’re ready.
