Little Witch In The Woods Walkthrough – Prologue And The Prickly Vines

Little Witch in the Woods

Little Witch in the Woods is a relaxing game where you play as Ellie and help out people in need while enjoying your daily life as an apprentice witch. For more information on Little Witch in the Woods, don’t forget to check out its official Steam page.

In our walkthrough, we’ll be covering the game’s story and how to progress through each step until you’re finally able to destroy the Pickly Vines that have been blocking the path.

The Train

As the story begins, you’ll find Ellie talking with her hat, Vergil. Ellie talks about how boring her journey to Highlion is, and is also worried if she’ll have to take her shows off after arriving there.

After a thorough conversation with Vergil, Ellie decides to ask others if what she heard about taking the shoes off is true or not. You’ll then have to talk to the bartender on the right side of the screen.

The bartender will talk as if the rumors about taking the shoes off are real, and you’ll get a Laced-up Boots keyword after talking to him.

A Critical Issue

After talking with the bartender, you’ll have to talk to some other passengers. If you head straight to the left, you’ll be able to enter the other section of the train, where you’ll find Roy, an ordinary passenger.

Roy will confirm that the rumors about the shoes aren’t accurate, and Ellie was jokingly deceived into believing it. After the conversation is done, you’ll have to head back to your seat on the train and sit there.

Ellie will also talk about her ticket, which has a real Phoenix’s feather engraved on it and is required to enter Highlion.

As you enjoy the view from your seat, you’ll come across a beautiful tree on the peak of a mountain. Suddenly, the train will stop, and the guard will come in to report that there has been a critical issue, and the train will be departing the next morning.

Stepping Out From The Train

Now that the train has stopped, Ellie has enough time to roam around and look for the tree that she spotted on her way from the train. However, you’ll have to return by the morning when the train is set to depart.

If you talk to the train’s guard, he’ll tell you that the train had to stop because of some Prickly Vines that suddenly sprouted on the track, but it will be taken care of by the morning.

After stepping out of the train, head up, and you’ll have to climb some vines until you reach a pathway. This pathway will be blocked by Little Honey Pumpkin vines, and you’ll have to destroy these to progress.

To destroy these plants, you have to look for the core, which can be found just to the left of the vines. Interact with the core, and the plants blocking your path will disappear.

Searching For The Mysterious Tree In Green Forest Plains

As you enter the area, you’ll be able to gather certain resources and investigate other things. However, your main goal here is to reach the peak of this mountain.

From the entrance to the area, you have to make your way to the top left corner. If you like you’ve lost your way, you can find the map of the area towards the left side of this section.

After entering the next section, keep making your way up. You’ll find the stairs leading to the peak are blocked with a key sign in front of them. You can interact with the key sign or the Witch Sigil to unlock the path forward.

Examining The Tree And Finding A Place To Sleep

You’ll find many Bluemoon Butterflies surrounding the Bitter Grape Tea Tree. After examining the tree, Ellie will start to wonder if there’s a place to sleep for the night.

The Quill option will get unlocked now, and you’ll be able to make entries to the Encyclopedia. With no other way to progress, you’ll have to head back to the previous section.

There you’ll find a glowing white cat, which will lead you to the entrance of the next section. It is currently blocked with a Witch Sigil in front of it, but you’ll also find some White Chalk there that can be used to unlock this section.

The Night At The Witch’s Garden

After opening the gate, head straight ahead to the Witch’s Garden. You’ll find everything messy here, and the inside of the Witch’s Hut is even dirtier.

For now, you can simply sleep on the bed and you’ll wake up in the morning to the sound of the train’s whistles.

Now, you have to rush back to the area where the train stopped, but you’ll find that the sound was being made by a strange bird, and there’s no train to be found here.

You can find a note here. The bartender left this note behind for Ellie. The note tells Ellie that a witch appeared in the middle of the night and made the vines disappear. The bartender also asks Ellie to make her way to the nearby village and stay there until the train returns in a few days.

The bartender’s note also mentions Enite and Arden, and asks Ellie to give them his regards. Now we’ll have to look for this village.

Cleaning Up The Witch’s Hut

While you’re tasked with finding the village, there isn’t much that you can do with the path being blocked by the Honey Pumpkin plant, so you’ll have to head back to the Witch’s Hut and make it your home for the time being.

Once you’re inside the garden, pull out the weeds manually by interacting with them. The hat will ask you to look for a potion to destroy the weeds in one of the containers.

Approach and interact with the silver barrel next to the window of the Witch’s Hut. It’s empty, so you have no choice but to do some physical labor.

Pull the weeds out by hand, and clean the bag that’s to the right of the hut. There’s also some dust in front of the lantern. Once you’ve cleaned everything up, it’s time to head inside the hut.

There are several objects that you’ll have to clean here. Start by immediately interacting with the desk to your left from the entrance. Then, clean the books in the middle of the room, and the shelf to the right.

You’ll also have to clean the lamp next to the bed, and after that, the hat will tell you to clean the area in front of the desk, towards the top-right section of the hut.

The Witch’s Workplace

You can interact with this desk to access the Witch’s Workplace. This is where you’ll be brewing all your potions and candies. But, just like the hut, this place is covered in dust and cobwebs.

There are a total of 5 objects that you’ll have to clean here. You’ll find the extractor immediately to the left of the entrance. This extractor will be missing a Glass Bottle, and you’ll have to look for it in some other place to use it later on.

There’s a chest in the bottom left corner of the screen. You can store your stuff here to free up space in your bag. You’ll also find a rotator covered in dust in the bottom-right corner of the workplace.

The roaster is missing a handle, so you won’t be able to use it for some time. The desk right above the roaster also needs cleaning. You’ll also discover a Moon Oil Potion recipe while cleaning the desk, which will be useful later on.

Once you’re done with all that, you can clean in the giant pot in the middle of the room. This is what you’ll use to brew potions. You’ll also find four extracts spread all over the workplace’s floor.

Brewing The Weed Exterminating Potion

Brewing potions can be a little technical. There are 3 main steps to brewing potions: heating, throwing in the ingredients, and spinning the ladle.

Each recipe may require different heating specifications, ingredients, and ladle’s spinning directions. For heating, you have to hold the button till it reaches its desired place, and then tap it quickly so it stays there. If you let go of the heating button, it will go to zero, and if you keep holding it, it will keep going up.

You’ll be shown the ingredients required when you start crafting the recipe, so make sure you have all the items before you start brewing. Brewing potions and candies requires extracts, which can be obtained by foraging and putting the foraged items into the extractor.

You’ll need a Witchflower Extract and a Squishychub Fur Extract to brew a Weed Exterminating Potion. Fortunately, you’ll find these extracts spread on the floor of the workplace. Start brewing the potion, and once you’re finished, you’ll be able to use it to destroy the weed easily.

Nature’s Curse

After you’ve got the potion, you can head out of the Witch’s Garden and go to the path leading to the right. It would be blocked by the weeds, but you can use the potion on it to destroy the weeds and get rid of the core.

As you destroy the Honey Pumpkin plant and its core, you’ll be able to head right towards the village. However, the entrance to the village is blocked by Prickly Vines, the same ones that caused the train to be stopped in the middle of the night.

These are way too strong for our Weed Exterminating Potion. Fortunately, there’s an NPC nearby who appears to be a trader. Approach and talk to Aurea. Aurea would keep singing praises of nature until Ellie and the hat figure out that Aurea might be cursed.

If you check your encyclopedia, you’ll find out the required resources to craft this Curse-lifting Candy. It requires a Bash Bug Extract and a Squishychub Fur Extract, both of which are something you picked up from the Workplace’s floor while cleaning.

Head back to the Witch’s Workplace and brew a Curse-lifting Candy. The process of brewing Candies and Potions is the same. Once done, bring the candy to Aurea, and they’ll be immediately free from the curse.

Aurea will give you a Glass bottle to be used with the Extractor in the workplace and an atlas for the area. You’ll be able to draw and increment maps from the signboards in different regions. Aurea will also give you a recipe for Healing Candy, which will be of use later on.

Exploration Through The Forest

Head back to the workplace to fit the Glass Bottle on the extractor, and now you’ll be able to get extracts from the objects that you’ve foraged.

Ellie will talk about exploring more of the forest to figure out the way of getting rid of the Prickly Vine and opening up the path to the village, but for that, you’ll need to brew another Weed Exterminating Potion.

You don’t have any extracts left, so you’ll have to go forage right now. If it’s late, go to sleep and go out the next day. In case you’ve already got Witchflowers and some Squishychub Fur, you can craft the potion right away.

The Witchflowers are like regular weed, but slightly larger. You’ll get an icon to interact with these as you approach them.

Squishychub Fur can be obtained from the cute little furry balls that you find near the burrowed holes around the forest. Interact with these furs while wearing gloves to gain some fur. Be quick, or they’ll go and hide inside their burrows.

Head to the next section of the Green Forest Plains, the one leading to the mountain, and here you’ll find a path leading to the left that is blocked by the Honey Pumpkin plant.

Pour the Weed Exterminating Potion on the weed and destroy the core. Once inside the Green Forest Waterfall section, go downwards, and you’ll find a tiny fox cub stuck in a cobweb.

Rescuing Rubrum

The fox cub is called Rubrum, and you’ll have to find a Maple Herb in order to free him from the cobweb. Maple Herb can be found on cliffs. You’ll have to climb the vines in the previous section, and you’ll be able to find it easily.

Once you’ve got it, return to Rubrum and free him. Rubrum will start running to the Witch’s Hut, and you’ll have to follow him.

But after you get to the next section, Rubrum will say that his leg is hurting, and Ellie will have to carry him back to the hut.

Once you’re back inside the hut, talk to Rubrum. You’ll need a Healing Candy to heal his leg. We recently received the recipe from Aurea for lifting her curse, so head to your inventory and read the recipe for Healing Candy.

Brewing a Healing Candy requires a Witchflower Extract and a Maple Herb Extract. You can find both of these materials easily in the Green Forest Plains. Once you’ve got at least two of each, go back to the workplace and make the extracts.

Brew the Healing Candy and give it to Rubrum, which will fix his leg, and he’ll tell you that he’s from the nearby village and he lives with his Grandma Enita.

However, he’s unable to return to the village due to the Prickly Vines. Rubrum will tell you he found an item with a skeleton on it near where he was stuck in a cobweb earlier. You can go there right now, and you’ll find a boom potion.

Destroying The Prickly Vine

After acquiring the Boom Potion, Ellie will automatically go to the Prickly Vines at the village entrance and throw the Boom Potion on it. The potion won’t do much, except sever a tiny fragment of the vines.

Take the fragment to Aurea, who’s standing nearby, and they’ll examine it for you with a Universal Object Identifier. The vine fragment will be destroyed during the inspection to Aurea and Ellie’s surprise. It will be revealed that since the object identifier uses moonlight to identify objects, the vine was destroyed.

Now that Ellie knows that the Prickly Vine’s weakness is moonlight, you have to figure out more details about plants that are weak to moonlight.

Head back to the Witch’s Hut and you’ll have to read the books on the shelf to the right. Ellie will figure out that you need the Moon Oil Potion to get rid of the wines, but for that, she needs the Moonflower.

Obtaining The Moonflower

As she continues to read the books on the shelf, Ellie will figure out that Moonflower can be obtained from the Bitter Grape Tea Tree from the mountain’s summit, the same one she stepped out of the train to see.

However, to obtain Moonflower from it, you’ll have to get rid of the Bluemoon Butterflies. Ellie wants to brew the Moon Oil Potion to destroy the Prickly Vines for good. But she’ll need the Sunlight Potion first to get rid of the Bluemoon Butterflies from the tree.

There’s a limited recipe for Sunlight Potion in the same book that Ellie is reading. Limited Recipes can only be used once. The recipe will require three extracts: Squishychub Fur, Witchflower, and Maple Herb.

So you have to go and find at least two of each item and return to the workplace to make extracts out of them. Throw all of these items in a pot and you’ll get the Sunlight Potion. The game will ask you to go to the tree right away, and if you select yes, you’ll be teleported there.

There will be a beautiful cutscene showing Ellie and the tree where she throws the potion. All of the Bluemoon Butterflies will run away from the tree, causing it to bloom. Pick up at least two of the beautiful Moonflowers that have fallen into the water.

Getting Rid Of The Prickly Vines For Good

After you’ve picked up the Moonflowers, you’ll automatically teleport back to the workplace. Make an extract out of the Moonflowers, but you’ll still be lacking one crucial ingredient: the Phoenix Feather.

Luckily, Ellie is very sharp, and she decides to rip her ticket to Highlion, which has a real Phoenix Feather engraved on it, all for opening a path to the Rubrum’s village. With these two items, you’ll be able to craft the Moon Oil.

After the crafting process is successful, Ellie and Rubrum will head to the Giant Prickly Vines. She’ll throw the Moon Oil on it, and the vines will disappear in an instant, opening a path to Rubrum’s village.
