Welcome to the Into Indie Games walkthrough for Loco Motive.
This is a point-to-point walkthrough that takes you through the critical path to completing the game. Loco Motive has a lot more to offer apart from the steps outlined in this walkthrough, so we highly recommend that you explore and interact with its world as much as possible.

- After a sequence of cutscenes and dialog, you’ll find yourself chained to a desk in a police interrogation room.
- The keys to your chains are hanging from a coat to the left, so you need to get those keys if you want to escape.
- Pick up the desk fan on the shelf to the right of the radiator.
- Pick up the newspaper on the desk.
- In your inventory, combine the fan with the newspaper to create an air funnel.
- Use your air funnel on the blue coat to the left of the door.
- Pick up the umbrella and then use it on the keys.
- Now you’re free. To escape, use the shuttered window on the right side of the screen.
Prologue: Adversary Proceeding
- On gaining control, go left and enter the cabin with the open door.
- After the cutscene, pick up the sealed envelope on the desk.
- Break the seal.
- After reading the letter (or not), interact with the blue suit to put it on.
- Head back out of the cabin and go right to the dining carriage.
- You can talk to several passengers here, but your objective is to get to Lady Unterwald’s cabin to the far right.
- In Lady Unterwald’s room, interact with the window to slide it open.
- After the sequence, exit the cabin to join the speech.
Part One: The Late Lady Unterwald
- As Arthur says, Lady Unterwald’s carriage could have some clues, but there’s a guard blocking the way there.
- While in the dining carriage, talk to the ‘uncouth slob’.
- Give the letter you receive to the blonde woman sitting behind him.
- Return to Don and talk to him.
- After the sequence, grab the keys lying on the floor.
- Examine the keys in your inventory to learn his room number.
- Return to the sleeper carriage (go left) and find Room 303 by examining each door.
- Knock on Room 303’s door.
- Examine the room as you wish, but be sure to open the closet door and pocket the wire hanger. Then, exit the room.
- When you need to hide, interact with the cabinets underneath the sink.
- After the cutscene, exit the room for real and run all the way right until you get to the guard guarding Lady Unterwald’s room.
- If you talk to the guard, you’ll learn that he is allergic to perfume.
- Give the guard the perfumed love letter.
- Once inside Lady Unterwald’s room, use the wire hanger you got from Don’s closet, on the left-hand-side drawer.
- Pick up the ledger that’s inside.


- Return to the dining carriage now and go to the table where the blonde lady (Susanne Goldschmidt) was sitting before.
- Talk to Mr Bergmann here and mention the ledger to him.
- Once you’re done talking to him, head back to the sleeper carriage and enter Don’s room.
- Grab the big magnet that’s on the desk to the right.
- Now go to the casino carriage and stand near the roulette table.
- Wait for Don to put his chips on the table and call a color.
- Pull out the magnet from your inventory and wait for Don to start using his magnet. When he does this, quickly use your own magnet on the roulette table.
- If timed right, you’ll cause Don to lose at roulette.
- Follow Don to the dining carriage and then overtake him to reach the sleeper carriage first.
- Note that Don will stop to chat with Bergman if you want to eavesdrop.
- If Don reaches his room first, he’ll refill his chips and you will have to repeat the magnet-on-the-table trick to make him lose and go back for more chips.
- After getting to the sleeping carriage before Don gets there, enter Don’s room.
- After Don leaves, interact with the secret panel below the bed.
- Grab the casino chips and head out of the room.
- After the sequences that follow, Part 1 of Loco Motive will conclude.
