Entering The Foundations

Use the Overseer’s Pathways to go back to the City Gates Attuner in Metropolis. Take the left exit and make your way to the Hall of History. We’ll be using the elevator to head to L-1: Foundations Access.

There’s not much here at the moment. If you head left, you’ll see an NPC who gives you an Old Core and an obstructed elevator.

On the right, you’ll spot some Crystallised Nacre on the ground.

Return to the elevator and use it to go down to L-2: Tuning Chamber. Go right to spot an NPC named Elesin. Talk to him to receive a Candle. The door up ahead requires Lura’s Seal to unlock.

Head east, past the elevator, and continue following the path. There will be two enemies along the way, but they aren’t too difficult. At the end of the path, you’ll reach a drop-down. You can see an air current flowing downward.

Ride the air current all the way to the bottom.

The air currents will take you to a frozen underground area. Continue heading west to spot an enemy up ahead. Take it down.

Past the enemy, you’ll see a hole in the ground. Head down through the hole. You’ll find some Crystallized Nacre in a middle chamber.

At the bottom, head left to reach a chamber. There’s a path heading downward. But go through the door on the left first.

It leads to a dead end. Mark the spot on your map and go back to the previous room.
Head down through the hole to officially enter the Foundations.
Exploring the Foundations

After dropping down, look down to see an air current. There’s a Junk Pile on the right that you can reach using the grapple point. When you’re ready, jump into the air current to continue forward.

For the next area, you need to use the grapple point to head through the air current.

Go down to the lower level by dropping down again on the left.

Continue heading right to reach another air current that’ll push you upward. There are two enemies here that you’ll want to take down first.

Once the enemies are down, use the air current to launch yourself up and then glide to the platform on the right. There’s another enemy here, so be careful.

Drop down from the right, and the air current will push you into a narrow tunnel. There’s another enemy here.

After taking down the robot, continue moving forward. You can’t reach the air current above you right now. So go right and take down the flying enemy.

Past the enemy, you’ll see a path heading down. Jump to the other side instead and take down the robot. Then use the air current to reach the platform above you.

Break the ice wall to unlock an elevator. This is a shortcut that takes you back to the entrance of the zone. It’s the same elevator that we saw on L-1: Foundation Access.

With the elevator shortcut unlocked, drop down to the right and take the path you saw earlier heading downward. Go left through the gap once you drop down.

Up ahead, you’ll see an NPC stuck on ice. Break her free. This is Sin, one of Mel’s Scribblings. She’ll go back to Mel’s workshop once you free her, expanding the shop’s inventory.

Jump back out the way you came and head right. You’ll see a path below with an air current. This leads back to the area where you rescued Sin. Jump up and glide across to the platform above the air current on the other side.

The next section can be a bit tricky. You’ll see some air currents in the tunnel with the red grass heading down. Two moving doors will block the air current on the two sides periodically. You have to use this chance to head to the bottom of the area.

Once you get to the bottom, check the section on the right. Wait for the door to move away and head through the opening.

You’ll find a Traveller’s Log note here.

Go back outside. This time you’ll have to head east using another moving door.

This path will lead you to an icy area. Slide forward, and you’ll drop down to a large section with three enemies.

Take them down and go up to the platform above you using the grappling point.

Glide across the gap to spot another air current heading up.

Ride it to the top to reach a new area. There’s an air current above you. Ignore it for now, and see what’s on the left part of the zone.

There’s a doorway on the left above the air current.

Enter the door and run all the way to the left, and you can pick up some Crystallized Nacre. You can pick it up while standing under the broken Crystalliser.

Return to the previous room and use the air current to go right. Break the ice wall to reveal an elevator on the other side.

Take down the enemy and ride the elevator to L0: Hall of History.

Go left and use the grappling point to head up.

Open the door on the right to unlock a shortcut back to the Attuner. You’ll need it for the coming boss fight. Use the Attuner if you have to, and then return to the elevator and go back down to L-1: Foundation Shafts.

Continue past the enemy below to reach a big pipe. Looking down, you can see a strong air current that will take you all the way to the boss arena.

However, there’s a grapple point on the left just before the boss arena that you’ll want to use to reach another section first.
Exploring the Side Path

Using the grapple point takes you to an icy area. There’s a flying enemy up ahead. Take it down. Then drop down to the bottom floor.

Continue heading left. You’ll notice two air currents blocking the path downward. So proceed through the opening on the left.

Up ahead, there’s an air current that takes you to the left side. Use the grapple point before you get caught on the red grass.

Drop down to the lower platform and head left through the door.

There’s an item below you that you can reach using the grapple point. This is another Candle.

Return to the previous room and drop down carefully using Glide to reach the lower level.

Use the grapple point to go past the air current and go right.

This is another parkour segment. Make your way across the hazards to reach a tall wall. There’s a grapple point above you that you can use to scale the wall.

Head right to find a Nacre Basin. Heal up if you have to, then continue forward.

You’ll reach a large chamber with diagonal air currents blocking your path. Jump down past the first current and use the grapple point to go across the next one.

Take down the enemy up ahead, then go past the air current on the right using the grapple point.

There’s another enemy above you. Take it down, then use the grapple point to get inside the pipe.

The next enemy can be pretty difficult because of the narrow space.

Take it down and continue forward to reach a room with a lot of air currents. Keep heading left.

Break the ice wall on the ceiling and ride the air current to the top.

Go to the left of the bridge to spot an item on the ground. This is a Modifier Extension that adds 10 extra modifier slots for you to use. It’s an excellent upgrade to get before the boss fight.

Drop down to the left from the bridge and go left to find an air current that’ll take you back to the S2 Elevator. There are some enemies as you drop down, but you can just run past them.

You can now either heal by going back to the City Gates Attuner or ride the air current on the right to get to the boss arena.
How to Beat Atmos, Weather Control Unit

What makes the fight against Atmos tricky is that the entire arena is covered in ice. That means, even the slightest movement will cause you to slide around which can make positioning difficult in the fight.

Use dodge to avoid attacks when your position gets messed up because of the slippery surface. The attacks are telegraphed and the dodge window is pretty generous.

The boss has a couple of ranged attacks in his fight. First, he’ll fire three icicles from his cannons when he’s floating in the air. This one is pretty easy to dodge.

However, when he’s on the ground, he’ll fire a barrage of icicles from his cannon vertically. If you manage to get on top of the boss during this attack, it’s an excellent window to hit him.

Once his HP drops to around half, the boss will float in the middle of the arena and fire ice barrage from two sides. You can dish out a lot of damage at this point by hitting him in the air and jumping away from the barrage in the direction it’s moving.
After this attack, the boss will start chaining his moves together a lot more. But the overall fight essentially remains the same. Be careful of your positioning and keep hitting the boss to take it down.
Unlocking the Strider Ability

Once the boss is down, exit the arena through the right side. There’s a Nacre Basin and a Junk Pile up ahead. Use it to heal up. Then continue forward and jump across the red grass.

Continue forward, and you’ll reach a long tunnel heading up. The path on the right is inaccessible because of the red grass.

Jump up the pipes to reach the upper level. There’s a Junk Pile on the left that you can break for some Nacre. When you’re ready, start moving right.

Drop down on the right. The path on the left leads to an observation deck, but that’s not very important. Continue moving forward along the western path.

Take down the two flying enemies and ride the air current up.

The platforms that you see will disappear when you stand on them. So you need to move quickly. There’s a small ledge on the left that gives you some Crystallised Nacre. But the main path is on the top floor. Use the platforms to make your way past the section.

Jump to the platform above and use the grapple point to get past the air current. You’ll land on an icy surface on the left.

From here, you need to jump to the platform above you. Use the grapple point to get on the platform on the right. Then quickly use the grapple point above to reach the upper section.

There’s a Nacre Basin on the left. Use it if needed. Then glide to the other side to continue forward.

The next zone on the right can get very tricky. You need to make your way to the upper section of the area by using the grapple points and disappearing platforms. However, the air currents in the room will drag you to the red grass in the center if you get caught in them.

To make things worse, there are also some flying enemies moving around in the room.

Once you make it to the top, continue heading right.

You’ll reach a section of red grass. The air current will take you past them, but you’ll have to use the grapple point just before the wall to get into the upper section. Otherwise, you’ll get stuck on some more red grass on the right.

Continue through the room to reach another Strange Tube. Pick up the Letter from Tomo on the right and then interact with the Strange Tube.

As always, she’ll whisk you away to grant a new ability.

This time, you’re getting some Striders to grab surfaces and move across them. Complete the tutorial section in the digital world.
Wrapping Up Foundations

From the Strange Tube, head left and climb up the wall.

Use the ceiling to get across to the other side with your new ability.

Continue making your way forward to find some Crystallised Nacre.

From this point, continue making your way forward, and eventually, you’ll come out through a pipe in front of a tent. Pick up the Traveller’s Log here.

Use the striders to get through the air current.

Once you’re across, go up through the air current to find an Old Core. But the main path continues downward.

Keep making your way through the zone until you reach a broken glass pipe.

Drop down through the pipe to go back to the red grass section after the boss. Grab the ceiling to make your way across the red grass.

Press the switch on the other side.

Return to the tunnel on the left to see that there’s a strong air current here now. Ride it to go all the way back to the gate of Metropolis.
Finding Tan, Mel’s Final Missing Assistant

Head back to the City Gates Attuner. From here, make your way back to the NPC you saw stuck in the air current.
It’s on the upper part of Metropolis, near the broken bridge.

Use your new ability to get past the air current and interact with the switch on the other side.

The NPC will drop down, and the questline will be over, expanding Mel’s shop.
The Blood’s Sanctum

Make your way back to The Blood’s Sanctum Attuner on the left section of Metropolis. Each time there’s a gust of air, use your striders to stand your grind.

Push through the air current to enter The Blood’s Sanctum.

Continue walking forward despite the voice telling you to turn back.

As you reach the end of the path, you’ll find Liho, The Blood, triggering a cutscene. When it ends, you’ll carry the Voice of The Blood.

Travel back to the Nexus Attuner and talk to Shii to sever the Pearl.

Talk to Shii afterwards, and she’ll tell you to head for the Vaults to find Dr. Halyn, The Hand.
