Monster Hunter Stories 3 Walkthrough Part 3: Endangered Species

Monster Hunter Stories 3 Endangered Species

The kingdoms of Azuria and Vermeil seek a mutual agreement to reduce the ever-growing number of feral monsters, but their negotiation fails. Now, Vermeil’s princess Eleanor joins the Rangers of Azurian to help both sides reach a solution as she learns about their culture and lifestyle.

In this guide, I will cover the next story quests and provide valuable tips to help you throughout the game. Also, don’t forget to check out our Monster Hunter Stories 3 Walkthrough Hub for all the walkthroughs we have covered.

Aiding Eleanor – Gathering Storm Quest

Eleanor’s Kinship Skill Animation.

Eleanor joins the Rangers, but Kora is distrustful of her. Still, Leia considers Eleanor as one of them and decides to show her around Azuria. Exit the main ground through the giant gate and turn left to visit the Melnyx Emporium. It’s a shop that allows you to exchange your points (Gold, Bronze, and Silver) for items. Perform well in battles to achieve these points.

Note: Eleanor will be your only battle ally during this quest.

Now, show Eleanor the Rangers’ work ethic. Head to the Monstie Stables and hatch the egg you discovered in the nest. Leave the Azuria castle from the southern exit to reach the objective’s location faster, and fight/ignore the monsters if you want to.

The Southern Azuria Castle Exit.

Since MHS 3 is a turn-based RPG, grinding is an inherent part of it. So, to stay ahead of the curve, I would recommend you fight any monster you can. Reach the objective to set up a camp for the Rangers and plan your next move, but the plan falls short as a Feral Yian Kut-Ku arrives at the location.

Feral Yian Kut-Ku Boss Fight

Feral Yian Kut-Ku.

Similar to the Feral Chatacabra in our first walkthrough, this Yian Kut-Ku is affected by the Blightstone Crystal. Immediately attacking the crystal would result in a Backlash, inflicting significant damage to the party.

Staggering Feral Yian Kut-Ku.

First, weaken its other body parts. Use the Chata Clobberer’s Power Sweet Spot ability and execute it; Power beats Technical. Focus on its head. Use Rathalos’s Venom Strike and Clobberer’s Chain Scrap to inflict the weapon element on Yian Kut-Ku.

However, the Blightstone Crystal will activate in the next turn, bringing changes in the boss’s behavior. Still, aim for the head to deplete all of its Wyvernsouls Gauges, leaving it staggered. A simple attack would do the job now. Once the blue Wyversoul Gauges appear, it’s now time to aim for the crystal on Yian Kut-Ku’s tail.

Staggering and Toppling Feral Yian Kut-Ku.

Combine Clobberer’s Sweet Spot and Rathalos’s Venom Strike on the tail to damage the Crystal. Even if Yian Kut-Ku executes a Backlash, the chances of getting hit are critically low since it’s staggered. With this, the Blightstone Crystal will finally break, and now attack the boss with everything you have. If the boss is toppled, don’t forget to use the Synchro Rush.

Keep attacking its Wyvernsoul Gauges, and use Herbs to heal yourself. In a turn or two, Eleanor will charge up her Kinship Skill and use it to ultimately defeat Yian Kut-Ku.

Gathering Storm Quest – Post Feral Yian Kut-Ku Boss Fight

Eleanor and Leia Victory Screen.

The Rangers now set up a camp for their operations on the marked location. Since Eleanor is now part of the group, she becomes the cook. Gather meat and other items to cook food at the camps to receive major buffs. For more recipes, visit the Melnyx Emporium and exchange them for your points.

After this, Eleanor explains the situation of the Vermeil kingdom and the natural destruction due to a strange phenomenon they’re facing. The conversation strengthens the bond between the two heirs, and now she tells us about endangered species, including how to rescue their eggs.

The Natural Disaster Over The Vermeil Kingdom.

The nighttime feature will unlock, and now you’re tasked to hunt down endangered species’ eggs with Eleanor. Additionally, monsters become extremely powerful at night. Head inside the camp to access the Catavan and save your game, and now move towards the objective to find numerous Shephard Hares acting strangely.

The Food Menu.

Continue moving towards the objectives to see an invasive monster. Now, you have to make it retreat; gather all three of its tracks by searching the area and hiding from the monster behind the big rocks. Collect the tracks and challenge the monster to a battle.

Invasive Yian Garuga Boss Fight

Invasive Yian Garuga.

In the first turn, order Rathalos to attack Yian Garuga with Venom Strike and use Chata Clobberer’s Meteor Hammer. It’s a retreat battle, so keep a keen eye on the dialogue of your allies.

Yian Garuga Tracks.

Aim for Yian Garuga’s legs when it stores its power there. Using any attack on its legs will force the monster to retreat, and you have the golden chance to check out its den for endangered species’ eggs. Head inside the endangered den, and keep a distance from the invasive monster to avoid waking it up.

An Egg Quartz Inside An Endangered Den.

Get near the Egg Quartz, and take it back to the camp to hatch it. After the cutscene, a Rathian will reveal itself from the egg, allowing you to have your first endangered species monster. However, Leia decides to release it so the monster can deploy its roots to repopulate.

Habitat Restoration

Hatching The Endangered Egg.

Habitat Restoration is the process of releasing monsters into an area, allowing them to repopulate and increase the ecosystem’s rank. Better ecosystem results in more discoverable monster eggs with much more powerful genes.

Release the same type of monster numerous times to boost ecosystem results; it works for individual monsters as well, but releasing the same breeds will advance results faster.

Some monsters have inherent elemental powers. For example, Tobi-Kadachi only comes with thunder elementals, but with Habitat Restoration, it can be altered.

The Rangers Bidding Farewell to The Flying Wyvern.

By releasing a monster in a new region, they can accustom the region’s prominent elements; the Sunpetal Plains consists of the fire element.

With this, the sixth story quest of Azuria and our Monster Hunter Stories 3 walkthrough part 3 comes to an end.
