The Rangers and Eleanor receive the Wyverian Gatekeeper’s respect, and finally, after much effort, they get past the gate to enter Cataracts. What they believed to be restricted ground is actually full of life, with a village nearby.
There, they meet the hunter Corbin, who joins them on their journey to the village. In this walkthrough, I will continue Monster Hunter Stories 3’s story, covering the next quest with boss fights.

Forbidden Ground – Quest Walkthrough

After meeting Robin, look east to see a spyglass. Climb the tower to talk with the Explorer Felyne and receive a map of Timberlands to unlock it without exploring every nook and cranny.
Move to the objective’s location and save the game with the Catavan if you would like to. While Rudy is still baffled about life in Meridian, the Rangers suddenly spot a human-like person. They catch up and talk to him to understand the situation; he doesn’t look human with the two horns above his hair.

Suddenly, two Izuchis and one Feral Great Izuchi ambush everyone. Corbin takes the individual away while the Rangers fight them off.
Feral Great Izuchi Boss Fight

The Feral Great Izuchi arrives with two normal Izuchis. Here are their states to help you battle them efficiently:
- Normal: Speed Attacks
- Enraged: Power Attacks
Remember: Speed beats Power, Power beats Technical, and Technical beats Speed. Check the enemy monster stats and there you can find its battle state.
All Izuchi fight with speed attacks, so to beat them in a head-to-head, use technical attacks. Don’t worry about normal Izuchi, since they don’t inflict much damage to anyone. However, the Feral Great Izuchi should be your main focus.

Aim on its head and use blunt attacks like Chata Cloberrer’s Meteor Hammer to deplete the boss’s Wyvernsoul Gauge by a significant amount.
Once it’s staggered, go for the tail with Blightstone Crystal. Even if the monster tries to execute a Backlash, you will be able to dodge it.

Deal as much damage as you can to its tail and heal yourself if needed. When the Wyvernsoul Gauges turn red again, go for the next body part if its head is destroyed. Within seven turns, the Kinship meter for both monsters will become full, and them execute a double Kinship Skill to topple Feral Great Izuchi.

Using a Synchro Rush will deplete the majority of its health, and now it’s time to focus on the remaining body part. Always check what weapon it is weak against. There are three options:
- Big Square: This icon represents blint damage that can be dealt with either Hammer or Hunting Horn.
- Bow: Any Iron Bow of your choice is enough to deal significant damage.
- Sword: For this icon, all the sword weapon types work, including Gunlance.
If the icon is covered in gold, that means a part is weak to it.
Survive its Feral attacks and continue putting pressure on Izuchi’s body parts to defeat it.
Post Feral Great Izuchi

Beating a monster of another land is a great feat for the Rangers. Once everyone is safe, the Rangers converse with the person and reveal themselves as Riders from another land. This, however, backfires, and the individual thinks of them as transgressors without malice.
So, after he calls his kin with a monster whistle, which reminds Leia of her mother, he returns to the village and asks the Rangers to follow him.

Cross the gap to enter the Sheparden, a small village led by the small boy you met before; his name is Master Kol. While the village forces try to arrest the Rangers because they’re transgressors, Master Kol tells everyone to give them a warm welcome, even though they’re not from this land.
Transgressors – Quest Walkthrough

After the cutscene ends, visit Master Kol at his quarters to learn about the history of both kingdoms and the village. Kol drops a bombshell of lore on both Eleanor and Leira, telling them why everyone beyond the forbidden lands is labelled a transgressor, including the fact that the Rift War from 200 years ago is probably the reason behind Feral monsters’ existence.
Rudy leaves the room after hearing about the forbidden history. When the cutscene ends, go find him; talk to Smithy if you would like to upgrade or forge a new armor/weapon. The conversation with Rudy is cut short when Len, Kol’s servant, arrives and asks the Rangers to leave.

Talk to Master Kol and receive a new objective instead. Like Azuria and Vermeil have pet monsters, Sheparden has pet Canynes. Now, Eleanor offers to help them save their species through habitat restoration.
Get to Canalta Timberlands and reach the objective location. Fight with monsters to gain experience and understand how the Cataracts ecosystem works. See a rad marker on your map? That’s a feral monster. It’s completely optional to fight it, but doing so will allow you to set up a camp and use habitat restoration, Rangers Mess for food, and manage Stables.
A nighttime prompt will appear as you approach the objective; press yes and keep moving forward. Switch to Rathalos and aim at the tree to distract the invasive monster, and then collect the tracks to find its weak spots.
Invasive Arzuros Boss Fight

The Invasive Arzuros brings a normal Arzuros with it. Here are their battle states:
- Normal: Power Attacks
- Enraged: Technical Attacks
In the first turn, the normal Arzuros will target you for a head-to-head. Use Speed Meteor Hammer to deal devastating damage and win the advantage. Suddenly, the invasive Arzuros will call a second monster, which aims at your monstie. Attack it to initiate a double-attack.

The main trick to defeating the Invasive Arzuros is to survive through the battle. In a few turns, its honey will run out, forcing it to retreat into its den. However, make sure to take normal Arzuros down to force Invasive Arzuros to use its honey stock.
Egg Hatching Ceremony

When it retreats, head inside the den and save the Canyne egg by interacting with the Egg Quartz. From here, you will return to the Sheparden, and the egg hatching ceremony will commence.
Everyone in the village is surprised by this act of generosity, and to help them further, the Rangers decide to take down the Hellions.

Exit the village and follow the Canyne statues to find a narrow tunnel. After getting there, switch to Canyne and dig through the tunnel to enter a brand new area. If you can’t find the path, check the map below for their path.
Entering Mount Canalta

The narrow tunnel will lead you to Mount Canalta, which has numerous dead ends that can be crossed with flying monsties. Fly over the gaps and dig through narrow tunnels to eventually reach a huge frozen area.
Before the Rangers can explore further, a Feral Aknosom arrives. This monster is the cause of all destruction in the area, and it’s time to take it down.
Feral Aknosom Boss Fight

Before you make the first move, here are Feral Aknosom’s battle states:
- Normal: Technical Attacks
- Enraged: Power Attacks
Knowing it’s a feral monster, avoid hitting its head that contains the Blightstone Crystal. Attack its tail in the first turn with Meteor Hammer; don’t use monstie skills to conserve Kinship progress.
Keep attacking its body parts until the Wyversoul Gauge depletes, and then go for the head to destroy the Blightstone Crystal. However, when it recovers, avoid hitting the head again and aim for other parts.

Tip: In Cataracts, the Melnyx Emporium has Potions in stock, which heal significantly better than Herbs. Buy them before progressing the story.
If Aknosom targets you, consume an Adamant Seed to increase defense and survive the attack; use a Potion afterwards. The Kinship Skill will be ready for both you and the battle ally by turn seven if you do not use a single monstie skill.

Now, ride your monstie and initiate a double kinship skill with your ally. It will stagger the Feral Aknosom again, giving you a chance to execute Topple Rush to end this battle ultimately.

With Aknosom’s defeat, use the nearby Catavan to return to Sheparden and talk with Kol. He thanks the Rangers for their efforts to save the village from its doom, but there’s another monster that’s called Nature’s Incarnate. It’s being strong enough to change the environment.
The Rangers decide to take this beast down, and Kol tells them to prepare for the worst.
