Before leaving Cataracts, there is one last favor that the Rangers decide to do for Master Kol. Here, in this walkthrough of Monster Hunter Stories 3, we guide you on how to get to the monster Yama Tsukami and win this impending fight for Meridian’s future.
After helping Master Kol of Sheparden in defeating Feral Aknosom and saving Canynes from extinction, the Rangers are now tasked to fight a beast nicknamed “Force of Nature”. Find out how to deal with Yama Tsukami in Monster Hunter Stories 3 below.

Ward – Quest Walkthrough

The Rangers now return to the Timberlands. Visit the Melnyx Emporium near the camp and get as many things as you can; stock up on potions in particular. To get to the objective, follow the Sheparden path and turn right in the middle to cross the gap with a fallen tree.
This road will take you to the Dragonreach Mountains, where the beast lives. Entering the new area will drop you into a three-way path with dead ends. To cross them, look to your right and jump onto the small area with a tree.

Use Canyne to traverse the gaps and climb the rocks easily. Before going to the objective, I would recommend exploring the available areas and collecting everything on the ground. With all the items set, head towards the marked area on the map to meet this beast.
Yama Tsukami Boss Fight

When the Rangers reach the area, they don’t see the monster until the ground starts shaking. Yama Tsukami, the elder dragon, was hidden in plain sight under the snow. It reveals its massive body and wings, showing what the true “Force of Nature” looks like.
Like every other monster, Yama Tsukami has battle states:
- Normal: Power attacks
- Mouth Open: Speed attacks

Taking a single hit will result in a drastic HP loss, so prepare accordingly. Upgrade your weapons and armor, and buy items before fighting this monstrosity.
It’s a normal yet giant monster with a Blightstone Crystal, but that doesn’t affect it. Go for the valve with Meteor Hammer; don’t use monstie skill to save the Kinship bar for Kinship Skill.

You will notice something after the first attacks: No real damage is inflicted to the boss, and only the Wyversoul Gauges are depleted. This part is scripted; there’s nothing to worry about.
When Leia and Thea talk about its tentacles, it’s time to shift your focus to them. First, attack the left tentacle with an Iron Bow to deal critical damage, and then heal to keep a steady momentum.

Once three and a half Wyversoul Gauges remain, Yama Tsukami will open its mouth to enter an enraged state. If you haven’t used a single monstie skill till now, the Kinship Skill will be ready. Wait for your battle ally to ride their monster, then execute a double Kinship Skill to lower Yama’s morale further.

Doing so will stagger and put it in an Exposed state, which can weaken its attacks and allow you to execute Head-to-Head situations with certain skills. Still, continue attacking Yama with all your might until it’s staggered again.

Additionally, switch to a Speed monster like Great Izuchi to help your monstie win H2H situations. In the exposed state, focus on the monster’s mouth to deal with it faster; it is weak to all weapons.

Wait for Kora and Gaul to weaken the Blightstone Crystal on its head, and then stagger it the second time. Go all out on offense and hit it with everything you got. If the left tentacle breaks, aim for the right one.

Keep attacking it, use potions and paracare to replenish your health/hearts. When it staggers one more time, all the Rangers time their attacks to break the crystals, and manage to free Yama from its misery.
Post Yama Tsukami Fight

With Yama’s threat no more, Kol thanks all the Rangers for their efforts. He expresses his gratitude and asks them to keep his Canyne as a token of appreciation. Leia accepts his offer and reaffirms that the Canyne is in good hands.

Suddenly, the scene shifts to Simon, showing that he’s alive despite the injuries he sustained. Here concludes the second story arc of Monster Hunter Stories 3: Cataracts.
A Valuable Encounter Quest – Muddled Marsh

The Rangers reach the Muddled Marsh before Galyad, where the entire area is, predictably, covered in mud. After moving around and exploring further, the mud rises and sweeps away both Leia and Rudy.

From here, you’re all alone in the wilds. Move forward to interact with the Catavan to save the game. Nighttime and fast travel won’t work here.
Ahead of you is a platform with multiple ways and a mud puddle consisting of monsters. Cracked walls block all the paths – break them with a melee attack from your monstie. Turn around if you break the wall hiding an invasive monster.

Fight the monsters if you’d like to, and then move toward the objective. Once you reach an open area, Leia and Rudy reminisce about past moments, knowing how far they have come together.
Now, keep moving forward to the next objective and cross through the gaps between mud puddles with Canynes.

After entering a circular area with numerous paths and a waterfall, climb up the path in the west direction and jump back to reach a platform. Switch to Rathalos to destroy the breakable wall covering the climbable path; it’s open now. However, it leads to a dead end.

Look at the platform you jumped on earlier, and use a monstie that can fly to reach the waterfall. Follow the upstream to see a Catavan and the objective area. Save the game and get ready to fight Almudron.
Almudron Boss Fight

Almudron comes with three battle states.
- Normal: Power attacks
- Enraged: Technical attacks
- Large Mudbulb: Speed attacks

Like the Feral Velocidrome fight, you’re alone here, too. Conserving Kinship and focusing on a single body part at a time is the key to victory.
Tip: Almudron's head is weak to Iron Bow, blunt attacks for claws, and sword damage for tail.
Go for Almudron’s claws first using a Meteor Hammer. Keep your monstie on standby and let it attack on its own. See a yellow line on either yourself or your monstie? This is an indication of a Head-to-Head attack. Check the monster’s stats and see what state it is in.

Use moves accordingly to win the advantage and inflict heavy damage on Almudron. Additionally, it is the only monster in the game so far that evades your attacks.
In the fourth turn, the monster will bring up two big walls of mud. Before it initiates the attack, use your monstie skill on the left wall and then target the right one yourself to destroy them simultaneously; it will take more than one turn to do so.

After the mud walls are gone, Almudron will collect all the nearby mud on its tail, entering the Large Mudbulb state. Use Technical attacks to win a Head-to-Head; attack the Mudbulb.
This results in a topple. Initiate the Syncro Rush to deal massive damage instantaneously, and then keep attacking all of its parts to win the battle. If you have a Hammer like Frilled Blow, the monster will be affected by Sleep; it will fall asleep within a few hits.

With Almudron’s defeat, the Rangers finally locate Leia and Rudy and reassemble. However, their conversation accidentally reveals to Corbin that Leia is the princess, but he doesn’t make a big deal out of it.

Now, move ahead and visit Colossal Dragon Remains and leave the gloomy Muddled Marsh for good. And from here, we enter the Colossal Dragon Remains.

This concludes Part 7 of our walkthrough for Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, in which we covered Yama Tsukami and the Muddled Marsh.
