Join us at Into Indie Games as we make our way through the beginning walkthrough of Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault.
After everything Will went through in the first Moonlighter, his journey as a merchant is far from over, but this time, things are looking a little different.
After being sent into a strange new world to gather relics, Will must learn how to make the most of what he finds while getting back to running a shop and facing new challenges from a mysterious being known as the Endless Vault.

The Beginning

The narrator starts telling the story of Will, the local merchant who lives with his family in the village of Rynoka. Given his ambitious nature, he went into the Dungeons to seek riches and treasures, but it was dangerous.
While exploring these Dungeons, he managed to bring prosperity to his shop and his people. Of course, it was all going a little too well for him until he realized that these Dungeons were portals to other dimensions.

This triggered Moloch, the interdimensional collector, to take the Dungeons and, with them, the village of Rynoka for himself. This forced Will and all the people there to leave their town.
Relic Hunter

The next scene shows Will being thrown into a desert-looking world by Ms. Scratch. She urges him to go grab some relics to sell in her shop.
Will has no other choice but to proceed and get some goodies. This is the tutorial area where you will learn the basics of how the game works.
Find Some Relics!

Start by going north, and you will notice some traps along the way. You can dodge and avoid them.

Continue following the way, and you will see the path is blocked by some volcanic vents. You need to attack them to clear the way.

Keep going forward until you encounter your first enemy, red slimes, and defeat them. After you defeat them, take the stairs up and you will find a chest. Open it to find your very first relics.
Relic Usage

These are the most important items you need to be gathering during the game, as you can resell them in your shop.

Relics come with a Quality value that determines their price. The higher the Quality, the more expensive the selling price.

Drag both relics to your inventory, and then take the flower lift to go to the next room.
Find More Relics!

In the next room, head forward, and you will see an enemy on the other side. Will has a gun, so you can use it to shoot it.
Your gun, however, has limited ammo, which is displayed by the green bar at the top left of the screen.
Rapture

Keep going forward to the other side, and here you will find another enemy and learn about the Rupture mechanic. This is basically the attack that you use when certain enemies lose half their health.
In their health bar, you will see the icon if they have it, and when Will takes half their health, they will start glowing purple.
This is your indicator to use the backpack attack, which launches them away and potentially out of the map. Practice this with the enemy ahead and try to get familiar with aiming using it.
Cursed Relics

When you’re done here, open the chest to your right. Inside, you will find your first cursed relic. Unlike the normal ones, these come with additional effects that trigger different outcomes.
This is where relic management starts to become more complex, as you need to manage your backpack strategically according to these cursed relics and increase the rarity of the relics you have.

As you progress forward, the game will expand and explain more on this. For now, pick one of the two relics ahead.
We went ahead and took the Mother Figure. Once you’re done here, take the flower lift and go to the next room.

As soon as you reach this area, a strange, mysterious voice will call on you. It will spawn a rock that has a potion on top of it. Potions can be used to restore your health during your runs.
Run Away

After you pick up the potion, head forward, and you will see that many enemies are attacking you from all different angles. There is no way for Will to survive this, so all he can do is escape.
Simply keep going forward and dodge all their ranged attacks until you reach a dead end. Here, you will be instructed to use your pendant to go back to the real world.
Head Back To The Shop

Will will be back at the village of Tresna, where he is residing now. Head back to the north to reach the shop where you’re working at now. It will be marked by a yellow objective marker.

Along the way, feel free to speak to other villagers if you want. As you get close to the shop, you will find Tomo and Zenon, your friends from Rynoka, asking about you and the shop owner, Ms. Scratch.
Will joins the conversation, and the only thing that the shop owner cares about is whether Will got some relics to sell. When you’re done with the conversation, go inside the shop.
Back To Shopkeeping

Tomo will put an old pair of shoes on display, and Zenon will approach it and react to the price being very high.

Take Will to the display and reduce the price to 40. Zenon will take it and move to the counter to make the sale. Before you start putting your relics, we’ll explain a few things.
Relic Rarity

We’ve already mentioned that each relic comes with a rarity, which you can increase during your adventure with Cursed Bonuses or Boons found as you explore.
Each time you increase a relic’s Quality in the dungeon, it will also affect its price. This means the final price of a relic is based on the price you set as its base, then enhanced by its Quality.
Customer Reaction

Each customer will react to the item on display based on whether they think the relic’s price is fair or not.
There are four reactions in total: Cheap, meaning the price is too low; Perfect, meaning the price is fair; Expensive, meaning the price is a little too high; and Overpriced, meaning the price is too greedy and no sale will be made.
You will be in charge of setting the price for every relic, and there is no indicator showing the perfect price, especially when you’re selling an item for the first time.
However, you will gather more pricing data as you successfully make sales, making it easier to determine the right price in the future.
Decide On The Price

The best tip for this is to set a really high price until you get the Greedy prompt. This will give you a general idea of what price is considered too expensive.
However, don’t take this as a strict limit. If you put the price below the Greedy indicator, customers might still find it overpriced and refuse to buy it. Think of the Greedy indicator as a base to help you decide what price to set.
Another thing to keep in mind is that even if a customer thinks the relic is overpriced, you can always head to the display and change the price on the fly, allowing another customer to potentially buy it.
The good thing is that once you get an idea of the price for a relic, it will be added to your Codex, so you won’t have to guess again for that specific relic. You can then easily use that information to set the price for future copies of the same relic.
Make Some Sales

This is it for now. Put your relics on the display and pick a reasonable price, since they are all common or uncommon. Something around 50 should be good. (At least, that’s what we did.)
After you fill all the display cases, there is a green key icon at the entrance of the shop. Go interact with it to let people know that the shop is open.
Customers will now come in and interact with the various relics on display. Based on their reaction, you will know if you need to reduce the price of a relic. If you kept them all around 50, you should be able to sell everything.
Don’t forget to go to the counter to finalize the purchase and get the money. Once Will has sold everything, everyone around him, except Ms. Scratch, of course, will be proud of him.
The shop owner will storm out of the shop, and Tomo seems to really miss her village, Rynoka, as she doesn’t seem to really like it here.
The Endless Vault

Just when Zenon was trying to tell her that she needs to accept the fact that her village is gone, she will feel sad and storm out. We will now need to get out of the shop and check on her.
Exit the shop, and you will find Tomo leaning on the railing. Will joins her as she expresses her feelings about how they gave up on their village quickly after Moloch took it.

During the conversation, the same mysterious voice from earlier will call on Will. In the middle of the square, a strange green cube will emerge from the ground.
It will introduce itself as the Endless Vault and will call on the merchant Will. The Endless Vault will set a mission for Will to earn more than 7,000 Gold, and he will be rewarded.
If by any chance Will manages to complete all the trials from the Endless Vault, he will grant him his heart’s desire.

This makes everyone shocked about this strange being that spawned out of nowhere, but also makes them a bit happy.
For Tomo, when she hears the “Heart’s Desire,” the only thing she can think about is claiming back Rynoka, and for the shopkeeper, it sounded so expensive, so that’s all she cared about.
And with that, we wrap up another walkthrough for Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault. Thanks for checking it out!
