Mortal Shell 2 – Walkthrough Part 1: Prologue

Mortal Shell 2 Walkthrough

Mortal Shell 2 is a Dark-Fantasy Action-RPG where you play as Lavender, a mortal who is trying to collect the Ova for the Mether. As you play, you’ll find shells with unique abilities, and you’ll have to find and cleanse beacons to collect the Ovum and cleanse them of the corruption that has spread all over the land.

For more information about the game, please visit its official Steam page here.

Awakening

Lavender wakes up near the Forlorn Village, where Ruk calls him the Harbinger. You’ll have to walk into the village, where you’ll find several people dressed for a ceremony.

Keep progressing on the path. You can also talk to the NPCs here. An NPC named Marigold will give you the Flower Crown.

As you keep going, you’ll eventually reach your destination where a knight appears to be sitting with a large egg, but has turned into stone. A voice will call you to come closer.

Interact with the egg, and you’ll enter a new scene. Here, you’ll hear the voice of UnderMether; she’ll tell you about the knight, whose name is Harros.

Walk towards Harros in the vision and inhabit his body. You’ll then unlock his shell. UnderMether will then command you to find her Ova from all over the land and return them to her.

As you return to reality, you’ll find that the villagers near you have turned to stone, and now, you inhabit the body of the Knight.

Try to get out of the area. You’ll find some wooden carts blocking the path. Use your attacks to clear the path and keep progressing.

You’ll then enter a battlefield-like area. There will be some weak enemies here. Keep moving ahead while defeating the enemies.

There will be some walls here connected by a set of stairs. Climb them. You’ll find some more enemies ahead. If you lose your shell, you’ll have to deal melee damage to the enemies to transform into Harros again.

As you progress, you’ll eventually arrive at a beacon. This is where you can rest and heal, but it also makes almost all of the enemies respawn.

Village Outskirts Beacon

After interacting with the Village Outskirts beacon, you’ll get the option to cleanse it. Cleansing a beacon removes the corruption from nearby areas, allowing you to gather more Glimpse. Glimpse is used to locate and level up your bonds with the shells.

Select the Cleanse Beacon option. As you enter, you’ll find a chest inside. Open the chest, and you’ll find a Muradean Actuator inside it. This item can be given to Franz later.

Keep going deeper into the beacon. Take the elevator. Once you’ve reached the depths, you’ll find an enemy wielding a shield. Use a heavy attack to destroy the shield.

There’s another enemy wielding a wooden shield ahead, alongside a large enemy that can throw rocks at you. Get rid of the shield enemy first.

There’s a weapon upgrade item here that’s giving off a green glow, but it’s covered by the corruption. Once you’ve defeated all of the enemies, look for a switch, which will be inside the room, opposite the locked gate.

After pressing the switch, you’ll be able to interact with the source of corruption and cleanse it. However, don’t select the option to return to the beacon just yet. First, grab the glowing item from behind and then return to the beacon.

Fork In The Path

As you return to the surface and keep pressing onwards, you’ll find that the path splits into two. You can either go right or take the path that leads you downward towards the right.

The destination remains the same. The path to the left has some enemies and is short, while the path to the right has enemies that are few, but if you defeat them, they’ll produce a poison cloud. If you take the path to the right, step away from these enemies after defeating them to avoid the poison.

Gloombound Ritualist

Both paths will lead you to a swamp, where you’ll find your first boss. The Gloombound Ritualist can summon exploding enemies that will run towards you and explode.

You have to dodge as soon as you see the dodge icon on the enemies. The boss also has some ranged attacks, but it can get staggered easily if you keep attacking it.

You can also parry its incoming attacks to build up the break damage bar. Once the bar is full, the boss will be staggered, and you can use a special attack to deal significant damage.

Defeating the boss will reward you with 360 Gloom. You’ll also be able to move ahead from the swamp.

To The Grotto

There will be more enemies on the path ahead. Even if you die and respawn at the beacon, you won’t have to fight the boss again, so you’ll be able to make it back here more quickly.

As you keep going, you’ll encounter a stone stuck in what appears to be white roots. Strike the roots a few times, and the item will drop from the roots. It will be a weapon upgrade item that will be of use later.

There are a few more enemies ahead on the bridge. You’ll find two soldiers with ranged weapons, alongside a knight in heavy armor wielding a lance. Try to get rid of the ranged soldiers with your sidearm so you can focus on the knight.

The knight has a lot of HP, so you’ll have to learn its pattern and block its attacks properly to stagger him and defeat him. It may take some time to get used to, but it will be worth it because you’ll be seeing this type of enemy a lot ahead. After defeating the enemy, the next beacon is nearby. Keep following the path, and you’ll reach it.

Disciple’s Grotto Beacon

Similar to the other beacon, you’ll get an option to cleanse it. Enter the beacon and take the elevator. You’ll then arrive in the Derelict Hideout.

There’s a soldier here on the ground and one with a crossbow on an elevated platform. You can fight and defeat the soldier, but for the ranged one, you’ll have to use your sidearm. Furthermore, there are a few crates to the left. Destroy them, and you’ll reveal a crack in the wall where you can squeeze through.

As you progress, you’ll find the source of corruption inside, guarded by an enemy. Defeat it, cleanse the corruption, and return to the surface.

After returning to the surface, there are many places that you can go from the Disciple’s Grotto beacon. You can go upward to Garrick’s Den, where you’ll find some coins, or you can go downwards.

If you go downwards, you’ll find a halberd-wielding enemy here. It swings around the halberd a lot, so it’s perfect for some parry practice.

After you’ve defeated the enemy, go and stand on the white jump spot and press the jump button. As you progress on the path, you’ll find Ruk here, and he’ll warn you that something is strange.

Tar Golem

Take the portal ahead to arrive in the boss arena. Here, you’ll find a torch near the other end of the arena. Interact with it to initiate the boss battle.

The Tar Golem is quite strong, but it is a scripted battle. If you’ve arrived in the arena as a Lavender and don’t revive Harros’ shell, you’ll have to redo the battle.

If you’re inhabiting Harros, you’ll eventually lose all your health and revert to Lavender. That’s where the cutscene will show up where Harros’ shell physically comes to save Lavender, sacrificing himself so that you can escape.

Interact with Harros’ stone form to obtain Vartra’s Seal, which allows you to harden yourself temporarily.

To Marrow Keep

Take the elevator ahead of Tar Golem’s arena. You’ll have to navigate your way out to the open. As you reach outside, you’ll find Ruk sitting on a rock. He’ll tell you to gaze at the Ovum and take it.

Cleanse the corruption and take the egg. You’ll then teleport to another location. From here, you’ll find a map.

Open the map, and you’ll see the path to the Marrow Keep. The path to the keep is quite straightforward.

Once you reach the keep, offer the ovum to the disciples. The gates of the keep will open. You’ll find Zhirelle inside, and she’ll tell you that Harros is gone, but more shells can be claimed. You can then use the Glimpse you’ve acquired to unlock the location of other shells on the map.

You can then rest at the beacon inside the keep to level up using the gloom you’ve acquired. You can also upgrade your weapons at the tarforge after giving Franz the Accentuator, or buy items from Merrick.

There’s also a big hall with room for all the Ova that you have to collect, and there will be a machine to siphon the gloom from them.

However, for your next step, you’ll have to go to the room beyond the Ova Nursery. You’ll find a lift here. Once you reach the top, you’ll find two portals. One pointing to the north, and the other to the south.

The south one is covered in corruption, and for good reason. You can cleanse it and go there, but it’s a fair challenge for the underleveled Lavender. Take the portal to the north and teleport to the beacon.

Find Ruk and pick a map, and he’ll mark the corrupted gates in the entire region. From there, you have to find the gates and defeat the bosses that lurk within to uncover a huge number of Ova and return them to Marrow Keep to progress the story.
