MOUSE: P.I. For Hire – Gumshoe In The Opera Walkthrough

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire

After Jack investigates the theater where Steve the Magician vanished in MOUSE: P.I. For Hire, he comes across his assistant, who seems to know something about the people he has been spending time with lately.

The Stage Designer is your next target to interrogate, and the only place he can be found is, of course, at the Opera House.

Go To The Mouseburg Grand Opera

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire

You need to travel to the Grand Opera location, and in order to do so, you need to go and interact with your car parked at the entrance of town. But before you do, check on Tammy and talk to her; she will ask you for a favor.

Since you are already going to the Opera, she wants you to take a picture for her to see the audience, the celebrities, and the ambiance there. I mean, you are going there anyway, so why not?

Now interact with your car, and you will be moved to a top-down view of the city. You will get a sign where you need to drive to reach the Opera, and it is just north of where you are.

Access Backstage

After you reach the location, you will find a waiter outside. Approach him so Jack can ask about Roland, the Stage Designer, if he’s around. The waiter will mention that he is upstairs, and that’s where you need to go.

Go inside, and you will reach the kitchen area. Here, there is a door on the right that you can open and find a safe there. Here is the solution for the tailpick.

Go back to the kitchen area, and you will come across a porthole door. You can take a picture of the party from here, but that’s not the picture that Tammy asked for, just an object of interest.

There is one more person that you can talk to here in the kitchen area, and he is a waiter. Jack can talk to him in order to get any tips on how to get upstairs quietly.

Well, nothing comes cheap, right? The waiter will ask you for 30 bucks so he can give you the tip. Thankfully, we had the money, so we paid for it, which means we are not sure what happens if you refuse his offer.

After paying the fee, he himself will kind of teleport you, and the next second, you will find yourself upstairs.

Locate The Stage Designer

Now that you are upstairs, go to the end of the hall and go through the door to your left. You will find one enemy here; defeat it.

You will hear some “strange noises” coming from the barricaded door, this is where the Stage Designer is, but you will have to circle around to reach him.

Follow the way ahead and then take the ladder up to reach the attic. You will find a barrel here, shoot it to destroy the “totally normal wall”. Enemies will come from it, so defeat them.

In the next room, you will have to detonate the floor, but there are no explosive barrels. Easy, just pick up the Dynamite box and throw one at it, and it will be destroyed.

Strangely enough, you will find the Stage Designer tied up here; untie him and speak to him.

He will mention that the extras he was supposed to work with tied him up and something about their plan to “loading the big gun” and “killing Stilton”.

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire

The Stage Designer might be ignorant, but Jack ain’t, these aren’t extras, these are mobs, or criminals who are trying to kill the Mayola Candidate, who happens to be Jack’s friend, Cornelius Stilton.

From here, you will be able to see Stilton watching the show from one of the balconies, and oh well, a huge cannon just so happens to be pointed right in his direction. “Extras”, yeah, right, Roland.

Prevent Stilton’s Assassination

Exit the balcony and tailpick the door ahead. Here you will find a shotgun, Boomstick, that you can pick up as a new weapon. Be ready to fight a few enemies as soon as you pick it up.

After you deal with all enemies here, you will see another “totally normal wall” in front of you, and you need to use dynamite to break it.

Before you jump from it, there will be a baseball card on the table to your right.

Now jump down, defeat the enemies here, and then shoot the barrel to destroy another wall and gain access to the other side. Go through it and defeat the enemies again.

Now, here you will be able to see a cable, follow it to reach the switch. Activate the switch in order to move the crane with the platform to the other side.

Climb up and use the platform to reach the other side, where there is another switch that you need to activate.

As soon as you activate it, the backstage door will open, but the platform will collapse and you will fall, and of course more enemies to deal with.

Approach The Canoon

Climb back up and go through the door to reach the backstage. Save here before you move on. Use the stairs to go down and approach the cannon.

Unfortunately, they will not make your job easy and will change the layout, sending enemies your way.

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire

Defeat all enemies and then circle around to approach the cannon. Once again, they will change the layout and you will have to shoot the explosive barrel to create an exit.

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire

Follow the Detective Brush here and you will reach another open area with multiple enemies that you need to defeat. Here, follow the stairs up and you will reach a switch. Activate it to lower a platform that will help you reach the other side.

Now there is another switch on the other side that you need to activate in order to lower a box that has a jump pad that will help you reach the exit.

Follow the way ahead and jump to the stage. You will be able to see the cannon from a distance, so approach it.

Oh well, the floor will open and you will fall to the basement; they just do not run out of tricks.

Find A Way Out Of The Basement

As soon as you fall to the basement, you will be attacked by a bunch of enemies, so deal with them. From here, the path is straight forward and filled with enemies, so deal with all of them.

Eventually you should reach an old man that you can speak to. He will speak in a namaste, cheesy way and will start talking some nonsense. The only thing that will make sense is that he will teach you to double jump.

Basically, he tells you when you jump, just jump again and that’s it. Somehow it worked and you will be able to unlock the double jump ability.

After you finish talking to him, be sure to grab the newspaper sitting on the wheelchair.

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire

Now the main path is to use double jump from one platform to another to reach the vent on the wall that you can see from a distance. But there is a secret here that you can reach.

If you look below, you will find some wooden platforms floating on water. Follow it and you will reach a secret room where there is a safe.

Unfortunately, we made a mistake, and it jammed the safe and we couldn’t figure out a way to “unjam” it, but here is the tailpick puzzle.

Now make your way to the vent and go through it, follow the way and you will be back to the same area just before you fall to the basement.

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire

We missed a secret here, but just go to the left and you will find a corner with some cheese and money.

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire

Now, for real this time, approach the cannon and rotate it so it is not aimed at Stilton. This might save him, but it will actually cause the building to be on fire.

Defeat The Prima Donna

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire

Now, this will cause a boss fight to trigger, Prima Donna. She uses a spear to attack and has two primary attacks.

If you are close to her, she swings the spear to attack you, and if you are far from her, she lets out a high note before she charges toward you and attacks.

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire

Use your Boomstick and aim at her head to deal extra damage, and just keep moving and double jumping around. Use dash in order to avoid her charge attack, and be careful of the flames around the stage so they do not hit you.

If you need extra healing, do not forget that you have your Cheese to recover some health.

Escape The Opera House

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire

Well, since you caused the fire, you need to escape. You will have the side wall fall and you can follow the path here to reach the upper floor.

Here, you will find a schematic hanging on the closet, pick it up and then keep moving.

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire

Shortly after, you will have to go from one balcony to another using a wooden platform and Jack will mention that this is the “perfect shot” for Tam.

You will get a prompt to take a photo of the burning place, which should do the job.

From here, just follow the Detective Brush to exit the building and defeat all enemies on the way.

You will go through the main area, then use the broken pillar to reach the kitchen area where you started.

Just when you are about to make it out, the floor will collapse and you will be stuck. Lucky for you, the Stage Designer will unlock the door and help you escape.

Talk To The Stage Designer

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire

Now speak to him to hopefully learn a bit more so burning the whole place down will at least have some benefit, or a clue to follow.

During the conversation, you will tell him that you know Steve from back in the day and this is not just one of his tricks. The Stage Designer will recognize you as The Jack Pepper.

Roland will give you a clue about a strange secret lab that Steve had under his mansion, but that is all he knows. Now you know where your next stop is, but not where it is.

You will find your car parked here, waiting for you to ride it back to the office.

Return To The Office

After you reach the town, first, speak to Tammy and hand her the “glamorous opera picture”.

She does not seem to really like it because, well, who would like a picture of a burning stage and seats? She will give you 100 bucks for the effort, so that is something.

Just before you head to the office, you will find a paperboy to your right. You can buy one newspaper from him for 15 bucks to add it to your collectibles.

Pin Your Opera Clues

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire

Now head to your office and go to your crime wall. Pin all the clues that you have collected from your journey to the opera house. Unfortunately, none of the clues will lead to anything.

Although the good thing is that Stilton is alive and he made his way to town. You will find him waiting for you just outside the apartment. Speak to Stilton in hopes of getting a lead.

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire

Jack informs him about Steve’s disappearance and fills him in on the current situation and case you are dealing with. It seems that Stilton got the tea, and he knows the mansion that has the secret lab, and he gives you the address where it is located.

For such a mansion, of course, it is on the outskirts of Mouseburg. Jack got a lead, and now he needs to follow through.
