Welcome to our walkthrough for Octopath Traveler 0. In this part we cover the Prologue section of the game. From waking up in Wishvale, doing the first quests and dungeons till the start of the adventure.

Wishvale
Becoming a member of the Watch
After the establishing cutscene, you wake up in your room. Check the chest to the left for 300 currency.

Head downstairs to trigger another scene. Your mom will give you your favorite dish. Dishes effect your entire party – not just you. If you press Square or the relevant button on your control scheme for Path Action – you can see you have two actions on your mother. Inquire and Entreat.

Each actions has a success percentage. Inquire gives you information and Entreat gets you items the character is carrying. If you fail at Entreat – your reputation will take a hit.

Explore both options as they have high chances of success. It will get you a Nourishing Nut. Head out now. Speak to your Father to learn more about Path Actions. You will notice you can take 4 actions – 3 of them are based Wealth, Power and Fame. The central ideas behind the 3 villains of the game.

Wealth uses gold to obtain items, Power engages you in battle and Fame basically is a dice roll. Pick Contend with your father to engage him in a fight. This is a tutorial and you learn the basics of combat, namely how to exploit weaknesses to create breaks.

A simple attack will take off 1 Shield point off the foe. Once that is broken you can engage Boost mode to deliver powerful attacks.

You gain 1 Boost Point per turn and you can spend upto 3 points to use a level 3 command. Enter Boost Mode and use your skill. After that use your skill Downward Slash which is your Father’s weakness. It costs 6 SP. This should end the fight. You will now be a full member of the Watch and you can also equip your father’s skill, Vaccum Slice Mastery.

Visit the carpenter Lavore’s House
Go southwards and turn to the right around the store and you should reach the Carpenter’s house. You will meet Stia and her father there. After the cutscene, Stia will join your party.

Head to the Church
Go to the right and up the small ramp to find the church at the north end of the church.

Watch the cutscene with Deacon Laurana. She needs a Azure Flamestone for the upcoming festival and so you have to help her. Or rather you can choose to volunteer. I chose to volunteer. Head out to get to the cave and Lutus will tell you about some mad scholar roaming the wilds.
Head to the Cavern outside of town
We are off to our first dungeon, the Cerulean Caverns.

You can speak to Lutus and Nellum on your way out to get a information about Collection Point and from Nellum you can purchase Healing Grape – you can try haggling. But it has a 83% success rate. Pick up the loot from near the church as well.

Other than make sure you have equipped Vaccum Slice Mastery on yourself. Next pick up a Healing Grape from the house on the far west side.

You can buy a Herb of Healing from Ander at the south.

Next to him is Basil who has Paprika that you can Entreat off him. You can entreat more cooking ingredients off Margot as well. Cross the bridge southwards and speak to Jasper and purchase the Helm off him by haggling (100% success).

Equip it and save your game.
Wishvale Trail
Wishvale Trail has a Danger Level of 1. Spiriting through the trail increases chances of random encounters. Take the left path down and you can find a chest – there might be a fight here.

Shambling Weed and Scaled Vipers. Shambling Weeds are Weak to Axe Attacks. Two hits from Stia should take it out. They do have an attack Body Bash that deals physical damage. Scaled Vipers are weak to Physical attacks from you. But they will also use an Attack Down debuff called Constricton your party. They also have a physical attack called Bite. If you have BP saved up, just use boost to take them out.

Pick up the Fire Soulstone from the chest.

Follow the path till you reach the signpost leading towards Emberglow Wilds to the West and North Theatroplois Plains. Just past it is a save point. Save here and go up the snowy path and behind the waterfall are the caverns.

Cerulean Caverns
Inside the caverns you will meet a strange man and be on your way. The Caverns have a Danger Level of 2. You will meet Phenn soon and he will tell you the strange man was the scholar Nomos.
Obtain an Azure Flamestone
Phenn will join the party. You will face White Bats and Howlers in the cavern. Howlers are weak to physical attacks – so both you and Phenn should be great here. Phenn has an axe as well, so swap when needed. White bats are weak to arrows and axe attacks. They can cast Speed up on themselves. Phenn is level 5 so he wont get much xp here. Pick up the chest at the end of the southern path.

Equip the Buckler you find inside on yourself. Make your way to the right, its pretty linear. Eventually you can save at the checkpoint. Go down into the clearing and you will encounter your first boss.
Boss: Emerald Direwolf

The boss is weak to Physical attacks from you. His bite hits for significant damage though – particularly if he gets Stia. He is weak to Arrows too – so use Phenn’s skill Repeated Shot to good effect.

The boss does a move called Vicious Charge, that hits for 3 physical attacks. The boss can also cast Speed Up on itself. The Boss will cast Physical Attack down on the entire party.

The boss will go into a ready stance, you should have a break prepared before then. Once you shield break him use Boost Attacks to deal a good chunk of damage. Use Stia to keep your party topped up. The boss should go down by turn 15-16. You should get an Azure Flamestone for all your trouble. Well, that and a ring. Head back to town.
Wishvale
Hand over the Azure Flamestone to Laurana at the middle of the town square.
Go Home and Rest
Head to your bed and hit the sack for tomorrow.
You will wake up in the middle of the night.
Take a walk around Wishvale at night
Go out and walk to the clearing up north.

Stia is there, talk to her and end the cutscene with a choice to either cheer Stia on or not.
Go home and rest.
Head back home and go to bed. Next morning you have a choice to go to the festival with Stia. Accept her invitation and head there. Stia will join you.
Take a look around the festival
Head to the church first.

Inside, Lutus and Nellum are getting married. Indulge in their happiness for a bit. Next, head to Margot’s harvest at the south side of town. Margot will share some of her veggies from her patch.

Next, head to the bridge and go past it to the Tavern.

Inside the tavern you can fight (using Path Action Contend) Watchman Karan for a Leather Armor. He is weak to physical attacks and axe attacks.

Next talk to Laurana to watch a cutscene play out.
Participate in the Endkindling
Head to the town center to watch the Enkindling.

Here, you can entreat a Jug from Priestess Yaya, since its at a 100% success rate – its free money. Speak to her to start the Enkindling. Do so and watch the cutscenes play out. Once you have control, you will fight two Scarlet Wing soldiers. Pretty soon Stia and Phenn will join you. The soldiers are weak to arrows and sword strikes. Cycle through the attacks to take out both soldiers. Your party will now include Phenn, Stia and Laurana.
Survive the attack
Run to the south and exit the village. You will see some horrible things and soon you will have to save Nomos from a group of Scarlet Wing soliders.
Once Phenn and Laurana leave, follow Nomos to his house. Watch the ending to this nightmarish chapter and finally pick your job. You can unlock all jobs later by learning skills. Each job will have a skill-gated requirement.

We picked the Warrior Job but you can pick whichever suits your playstyle. Next choose your Mastery.

The Scarlet Wings Corporal has weaknesses to Swords, Arrows and Staves. Keep breaking the add armor and keep them stun locked as your party should have 3 Burst weapons. Watch for the Corporal Charge attack and keep using BP points to hit him twice every turn and he should be stun locked through the fight.

We picked Eye for an eye – that skill has a 50% chance to counter physical attacks. Once that’s done you can now learn Battle Skills by using JP.
Head to Wishvale
Head back to Wishvale to see what’s left of the town.
Build a Workshop
Talk to Stia and remove the rubble.
She will then ask you to go get some Lumber from the Wishvale trail.
Look for the green glow in the area to collect lumber.

Any monsters you face in the trail can be two shot by just using 1 point of Boost and normal attack. After collecting 6 lumber, go back to Stia and build the workshop.
Nomos will show up and tell you about Verminia, Tytos and Auguste – the 3 villains of the game. And he will hand over to you the ring of Aelfric the Flamebringer. And you will have to choose your inclination – Wealth, Power or Fame.

This decides where you start the campaign. We went with power and therefore we started in Emberglow, the Frostlands. This will also set your influence to Power and raise Power influence. Fitting.
This will end the prologue and open up the wider adventure.
