OPUS: Prism Peak is the latest entry in the standalone, long-running series with the same name. Similar to Final Fantasy, it is not required to play the previous games to understand Prism Peak. Focusing on narrative and exploration, it follows the story of a photographer who meets a young girl with amnesia. Different choices will lead to different conclusions. If you’re interested and want to learn more about it, check out the game’s official Steam page for further information.
And from here, I will begin OPUS: Prism Peak’s first walkthrough, covering a handful of sections of the game and showing how its story evolves.
Prologue – Young Eugene

Following Eugene, a kid with an appreciation for cameras, he is out in the wilds with his grandpa, who shares the same passion. Eugene explains that he doesn’t like taking photos in his house because it makes his parents fight, but his grandpa tells him it’s normal for couples to do so. Now, when the camera menu opens, wait for the butterfly to flap its wings and then take a picture.
Fast forward a year, Eugene is now six, and he takes a stroll with his grandpa in the woods. As they converse, Eugene suddenly sees a deer, but it runs away; his grandpa thinks he just saw a vision, and there was no deer at all. The seven-year-old Eugene once again visits the same woods with his grandpa and asks why his mother regularly visits the city. According to grandpa, she visits the city whenever she feels down.

As they walk forward, a deer finally shows up. Wait for grandpa to initiate a countdown, and then take its picture. With this, the prologue comes to an end. You will be provided with a choice between two options: “Being with him just made things feel less sad” and “I could always find something to enjoy on my own.” They will initiate a different route, one with further memories of Eugene’s grandfather, and the other focuses on Eugene’s solo adventures as he grew older.
I chose “Being with him just made things feel less sad.”
Note: I am choosing a mixture of options that lean more towards my personal experiences to see where the game goes. You can choose an option of your choice.
Post Time Skip

And here comes the time skip. Eugene moves to the city to make a living, and here you’ll be presented with two more choices. I chose the realistic option that life isn’t that easy, and Eugene then reveals how he landed a job and got married. However, this doesn’t last long since his wife leaves him.
“Why does it always turn out like this?” – Dialogue Selected
While he remains optimistic as he still has his job and colleagues to pull him out of his misery, the company eventually shuts down after ten years.
“For a while, I felt lost.”
To keep things afloat, Eugene and his friends invest money to open up a cafe. The situation looks good momentarily, until the cafe also shuts down; a short but memorable endeavor.
“I guess that’s just how it goes sometimes.“

Time waits for no one. Now, Eugene is 40 years old, and he waits for his grandpa’s funeral the next day. He sold his camera, and doesn’t know where life is leading him now. Nothing seems the same, and he wonders where life went wrong.
“Some things are just meant to disappear.”
Eugene, 40 Years Old

Eugene drives on the highway and talks to his best friend about selling his camera to cover rent; his friend is the landlord. He can’t keep owing his friend. From here, you can check your character’s history in a journal; the yellow-highlighted texts are your choices.
Move the camera to inspect the items present in the car. To continue the story, let the phone ring and then pick it up. It’s Eugene’s dad, who still presses him over his divorce and asks him to reach the hometown as fast as he can. Before Eugene can reply to him, his dad cuts the call.

After entering an underpass, turn the radio station off. While he is too busy with his thoughts, he crashes there and thinks about all the wrong things happened in his life and how he wants to scream at his childhood self.
“Don’t become a grownup like me.”
Post Underpass Accident

A fire appears, and someone chants before it. Suddenly, Eugene regains consciousness and finds himself alone in the tunnel with his car crashed into a tree-like structure. Exit the car and start exploring the surroundings. Check the statue to find some Dried Seeds; open your bag to see the items that you have picked up.

It’s all foggy. Keep moving forward through the underpass, and you will see things loop. Eugene’s car will appear again, and he will question himself. Don’t stop walking, and continue through the underpass until you reach a dead end. When a blue butterfly appears, follow it to reach a small puddle with a child inside.
Interact with the kid, and she will tell you about a creature; it suddenly appears. Run through the underpass, and when you’re in the forest, avoid moving left or right too much. A blue light will appear, and entering it will complete this section. Suddenly, Eugene finds himself stranded in an area covered in water with a table in the middle. Pick up the field notes from the table, and then wait for the butterfly to return; follow it.

“Head up the stairs.”
However, when Eugene ascends the staircase, his eyes suddenly close, and he later wakes up in the middle of the forest. Open up the journal and fill in the information about the flame you saw in the underpass. I chose “a piece of my soul.”
