Pioneers of Pagonia is a city builder game that takes place in the world of Pagonia. It was once a blissful town, but a certain incident occurred, shrouding the entire town in fog. Now, you must rebuild the colony with the pioneers you currently have. You will get plenty of pioneers, and their numbers grow fairly quickly. For more information about the game, you can visit its Steam page.
In a city builder game, there are often many complications. Some mechanics can be confusing, and certain tasks may not be immediately clear. Here, in this guide, I will provide a detailed walkthrough of Pioneers of Pagonia.
Disclaimer
This is not literally a complete Pioneers of Pagonia walkthrough, as city builders usually do not have a definitive end. There is now a proper story campaign, so I will try to cover each chapter and provide you with an elaborate walkthrough for certain sections of the game that will help you get started and enjoy the experience. Do not get me wrong, there are objectives, and I will be focusing on them more. I will also try to include as much high-quality content as possible in this walkthrough of Pioneers of Pagonia.
Table of contents
Prepare For Your Journey – First Main Objective

After the cutscene ends, you will arrive on an island, and this is where you have to start. In the first objective, you need to prepare for your journey. Two of the main quests in this objective are to find Captain Kirk and the Magic Compass. I will explain exactly how to complete these two quests, along with the other side quests.
Building A Resource Depot

The first step is to set up a Resource Depot. The game will literally tell you where to place it, so put it there. Once it is built, connect it to a road. Pioneers can collect stones and copper and store them inside the Resource Depot. Make sure to build additional depots near the locations where these resources are found so that your pioneers do not have to travel too far. Placing one depot near rocks and copper chunks will also help you complete two side quests.
Prepare Housing And A Proper Food Resource For The Pioneers

After that, you will be tasked with placing huts. While the subquest requires you to place two huts, make sure to place at least a few more since you have additional pioneers. Placing five huts will also complete a subquest that will appear shortly. Each hut can house up to eight pioneers, including two children. Once you have provided housing for your pioneers, it is time to prepare a food resource.
To do this, place a Forager’s Hut. Make sure to position it near mushrooms and berries. It is also a good idea to place at least a couple of Forager’s Huts to ensure your pioneers have enough food.
How To Find The Magic Compass

Now, build a Workshop, which is used to craft basic weapons and tools, and a Village Hall, which allows you to train your pioneers. After that, you will unlock the Guard Tower, so place it in the left corner (the game will indicate exactly where to build it). You will now need to train some of your pioneers, who can be stationed at the Guard Tower.
This will help you expand your territory. After training some pioneers, creating a few weapons, and assigning some guards to expand the colony to the west. Place the expansion marker as far as possible to the left. Once the process is complete, the guards will place stones around the area to mark your territory. After this, a carrier will arrive and pick up the compass.
Additionally, you will need to place a Woodcutting Hut to gather wood for repairing the ship. Hire three woodcutters and collect ten softwood trunks. The range of the hut is quite large, but make sure to place it slightly toward the middle and a bit to the east so you can easily gather softwood trunks for the ship. You can also check what resources are available in the area, and if softwood is not present, move the hut to a better location.
How To Find Wild Flax

You can find Wild Flax fairly easily, as it looks like a small bush. However, in the initial territory you are given, there will not be any Wild Flax. You can discover it by exploring the northeast section of the area. You should also set up a Guard Post nearby and expand your territory in that direction. Then, place a Forager’s Hut near the Wild Flax to collect it more efficiently.
Take Care Of The Boars

After that, build a Weaving Shed and produce five cloths and five ropes. Then progress through the small tasks, and eventually a pop-up will appear prompting you to deal with the boars. Click on the Guard Post and select the option on the far right. This option will command your guards to attack dangerous animals, so they will start fighting the boars.
However, the guards may get hurt by the boars, so you will need to build a Hunting Lodge. Place it near the boars. After that, build a Wood Workshop, and the ship will be almost repaired. The hunters will take care of the boars, but make sure to recruit more guards since your current ones may be injured.
How To Find Captain Kirk

Now, if you have already repaired your boat and completed all of the sub-tasks, it is time to find the captain. However, if there are any tasks left, I recommend completing them first. To find the captain, you need to expand your territory. On the left side of the island, you may notice a path leading north.
Include that path in your territory and continue heading north while expanding your territory. Beyond the fog, you will find the captain’s hat. If the range of your previous Guard Post is limited and cannot cover the area, build another one near the water to the north. This will help clear some of the fog.
There, you will find Captain Kirk’s hat. After some dialogue, your objective will change to recovering the captain’s hat. Expand the territory to where the hat is located, and one of the pioneers will come and pick it up. Once the hat has been recovered, the first main objective, “Prepare For Your Journey,” will be complete. This also concludes Part One of my Pioneers of Pagonia walkthrough.
The Search For The Captain – Second Main Objective

After completing the first main objective, you will travel to another island by boat to find the captain. In the previous objective, we did manage to find Captain Kirk’s hat, but his whereabouts still remain a mystery. Before moving forward, you must first complete the initial subquest called A New Home.
For this quest, place three Resource Depots along with six huts and one Forager’s Hut. Make sure to place one of the Resource Depots on the left side of the area so you can collect more items efficiently. By this point, you should already be familiar with basic construction tasks. Placing buildings such as the Weaving Shed and the Wood Workshop should be easy, as you have already done this earlier in the game.
Expand Your Territory To Find The Captain

Now you need to expand your territory to continue searching for the captain, and this will not be possible without guards. You will need to explore nearby areas, so start by training some guards and building a Guard Post to push your borders further. Once the Guard Post is constructed, expand your territory toward both the east and the west.
If you expand toward the north, you will discover the border of a Pagonian village. After some time, several new objectives will appear. These include the Advanced Construction quest, the Settlement Progression quest, and a few optional quests as well.

Complete these objectives while continuing to expand your territory to the east and west. Once you finish these quests, even more objectives will appear, so make sure to complete those as well. Place the new buildings as recommended by the quests and keep an eye on the quest list at the top of the screen. The quests will continue to appear as you progress, so keep constructing new buildings as required.
Also, I do not recommend ignoring the optional quests, as they are quite helpful. Completing them alongside the main quests will give you a much better overall experience.
Keep Searching For The Captain

Build the Explorer’s Hut and train a few explorers. These units are able to explore areas that are covered in fog with ease. You will eventually need access to iron, so prepare for this by building a Coal Hut near a coal deposit and an Iron Hut near an iron deposit. For now, building one of each is enough. Once construction is complete, you will soon gain access to iron resources.
Important Note
I recommend training more advanced soldiers rather than normal ones. The workers will automatically make the weapons for them, so you do not have to worry about that. Place the advanced soldiers in the towers and then attack. They will deal a lot of damage to the bandits and will be victorious. You also will not lose many soldiers this way.
In addition to this, make sure to build a few Guard Towers to help defend your territory from incoming threats.
Defeat The Bandits

As you continue expanding your territory toward both the east and west, you will eventually come across a bandit camp. This camp is usually discovered while expanding toward the west, and you will need to deal with it. To do so, you must begin training soldiers.

Do not worry, this part is not too difficult. As long as you keep building and progressing normally, you will be well prepared. You can defeat the bandits with around ten soldiers, but if you are able to train more, it will only work in your favor. Defeat the bandits, and you will trigger several dialogue scenes.
After clearing the camp, place some of your soldiers near the area where the bandit camp once stood. This will be important later, so make sure to do this.
Search For Beron’s Camp

After the dialogue ends, you will learn that the leader of the bandits is nearby and that the captain is being held at their camp. Shortly after this revelation, your settlement will come under attack. This is where the Guard Towers you built earlier will prove useful. Once the fight is over, train new units so you can continue to repel similar attacks in the future.

Continue expanding your territory, and you will notice that the area beyond the bandit camp you just cleared is covered in fog. Place an Explorer’s Hut and build another Guard Post so you can expand your territory even further. Your explorers will soon discover the Bandit Camp you have been searching for.
Attack The Bandit Camp And Defeat Beron

After speaking with the bandit leader, you will be able to see the true strength of their camp. They have a total of 22 enemies, so make sure you train enough soldiers before launching an attack. While you are still training your army, the bandits will attack you directly. If you placed soldiers near the bandit camp earlier, they will be able to handle these attacks without much difficulty.

However, if you did not do this and relied only on the Guard Post, the guards alone would not be able to defend effectively. While you may eventually have enough soldiers to defeat the bandits, the guards would die for nothing, so make sure this does not happen. Continue training your army until you are fully prepared, then attack the Bandit Camp.
After defeating the bandits, more dialogue scenes will appear. You will now need to search for the captain’s hideout, and explorers are the best units for this task. The captain is hidden somewhere within the fog, so send your explorers to search the area thoroughly. Eventually, Captain Kirk will be found, and the second main objective will be completed.
