Regions of Ruin: Runegate – Prologue

As you select the difficulty, the game will start, and a cutscene will commence. Once the cutscene ends, move forward, and you will come across a person named Osman. You can ignore him, as the person you need to talk to is right next to him. So, head to Calostos and talk to him.
Talk to him, then head left and interact with the body. As you do, a chest will appear, and you will be able to pick up a simple tunic along with leather shoes. Once you have picked those up, your character will equip them automatically. When that happens, head back to Calostos and talk to him.
Once you have talked to him, head right and open the chest. Inside, you will find a wooden round shield and a rusted bearded axe. Then, talk to Calostos again and select the first option. After that, head right, and you will face your first enemy.
Defeat The Goblin

As you engage in a fight with the goblin, your stamina bar will appear. It is quite large, so you will not exhaust your stamina in this fight at all. Move toward the goblin and attack a couple of times before it strikes. However, make sure not to get too greedy and block when the goblin attacks you.
This fight will be easy, but your armor will be damaged, and now you need to find someone who can repair it. So, head right and make sure to open the chest along the way. As you move forward, you will face another goblin, and this one is a little different.
Find Someone To Repair The Armor

Unlike the previous one, this goblin will throw spears at you, so you will have to block. Upon blocking, the spear will not damage you at all, so make sure to block as needed while closing the distance. As you get close, start attacking, but stay on guard as the goblin will keep throwing spears.
While you are fighting the spear-throwing goblin, another one will appear. You will most likely defeat the spear-throwing one before engaging with the other goblin. Take care of both enemies, and once you do, the area will be cleared.
Then, interact with the cage to unlock it. After that, talk to Eira and select the I need healing option, then choose the Let’s get out of here option.
Continue On Your Way

After saving Eira, continue forward. As you proceed, a small cutscene will commence. When it ends, head right, jump on the stairs, go up, and then jump to the left. Interact with the skeleton to get the Unknown World Key. Once you have the key, head to where Calostos is, and the path ahead will unlock.
Then, a short cutscene will play, and you will be taken to a new area.
Rivenbrook Keep – Solitude

As you escape through the runegate, you will reach a new area. Move forward, and this time talk to Djarni. After talking to him, drop through the platform and go left. You will need to go up the stairs slightly and then drop down to the platform to continue heading left.
Repair The Wagon

As you move left, you will find some timber. Use your weapon to break it apart and collect it. After that, head back up, and you will see a sign next to Djarni. Interact with it, and a pop-up will appear telling you to repair the wagon. This will cost 20 timber, which you just collected. Click on upgrade, and the wagon will be repaired.
Pick Up The Food

Just to the right of Djarni, there will be some food. Use your weapon to destroy the bucket and collect the food. After that, talk to Calostos, and he will ask you to see if the runegate works. Interact with the purple object, and you will make a new discovery. What you have discovered is a new world called Otam.
So now, this place becomes your base, and you can return here from time to time to upgrade it and get healed by Eira. One of your main objectives is to bring back as many resources as possible, as you want to rebuild the entire civilization.
Now, talk to Calostos again, and the Long Lost Kin quest will start. Then, head over to Djarni, and the Rally the Workers quest will begin. Once you are done talking, head through the runegate, and you will reach a new area called Otam.
Otam Runegate – Midlands

You are now in the Midlands, but you are not alone. Some of your companions are with you, so talk to Djarni. As you do, you will start a new quest, and a new location will be revealed.
Explore The Area
You now have to investigate the lumberyard to see if you can find food and other resources. The location of Torbidd’s Lumberyard will be revealed. Once you are done talking to him, talk to Calostos, and the Investigate Midland Ruins quest will trigger. The location of the Old Midland Ruins will also be revealed.
After the conversation ends, head right and talk to the trader. Select the first option and continue the conversation. While speaking with him, a new quest called Investigate the Rockmanor Settlement will begin. After the quest starts, select the second option related to the Long Lost Kin quest, and the Hunting Ground location will be revealed.
Now, open the map, and you will see several points of interest. Explore the new area, and then you can select the location to travel to.
Investigate The Lumberyard

Select the Torbid’s Lumberyard location to travel to in order to progress the quest. Once you reach the area, head to the right and interact with the glass of beer to advance to level one. After that, keep moving right, destroy the boxes for some loot, open the chest, and then talk to the person sitting right next to the fire. Select the first option and continue choosing the dialogue options to start the Rescue Torbid’s Brother quest.
You can then continue the conversation, and when it is over, move forward. There will be some wooden logs and boxes nearby, so use your weapon to destroy them and collect some useful items. Now that you have leveled up, you should use your skill point to unlock a new skill.
I recommend choosing between Dash and Heavy Attack. I personally went with Dash, as it seemed like a more flexible and useful option for movement and exploration.
Head To The Goblin Hideout

Right next to Torbid’s Lumberyard, you will find the goblin hideout. You will first need to discover the area, and only then will you be able to travel to the goblin hideout. Head there and then go to the right. You will see a cage, but before you open it, make sure to defeat the goblins just ahead of it.
There will only be two goblins, so it will not be a very difficult fight. Defeat the goblins and then open the cage to free Tornid. He is the brother Torbid is looking for, so once you unlock the cage and talk to him, the quest Rescue Torbid’s Brother will be updated.

After that, Tornid will run back to the lumberyard, so make sure you loot everything in the area before heading there yourself. There is a tent that contains a chest, so open it to collect the loot. You should also destroy everything you can find for some extra loot and useful materials. Once you have gathered and looted everything, head back to Torbid’s Lumberyard and talk to Torbid. This will complete the Rescue Torbid’s Brother quest.
Head To The Abandoned Ruins

Now, open the map and travel to the ruins. You can find them at the bottom left side of the already discovered map, so head there. As you reach the Abandoned Ruins, interact with the beer up ahead to gain its benefit, and then continue forward. There will be a couple of goblins ahead, so be prepared for a fight.

Defeat the goblins, then move forward and attack the meat that is being cooked to collect some food. Just ahead, there will be a locked chest, and when you interact with it, you will start the Unlock the Chest in Ruins quest. Before moving on, note that there is another chest at the top of the ruins that you cannot reach normally.
However, the Dash skill will allow you to reach that chest easily. You will need to climb up from the right side, then jump and dash to the left from the top to reach it. If you did not unlock Dash, do not worry, as you will reach level 2 shortly and can unlock it then.
Unlock The Chest In Ruins
To open the chest, head right and pick up the letter from the wall. Just ahead, you will find a corpse. Interact with it to collect some items. Among those items will be Einnar’s Key, which is exactly what you need to open the locked chest.
Pick up everything, then return to the locked chest and interact with it. You will find several useful items inside. Collect them, and you will advance to level 2. At this point, you should unlock the Charged Attack skill, as it will allow you to deal significantly more damage.
Head To The Old Ruins – Investigate The Midland Ruins

As you reach the Old Ruins, head right, and you will find a scholar sitting next to a fire. You can sell some of your items to him and also purchase something useful. Buy anything that may seem useful to you, and then make sure to equip it after purchasing it.
Now, you have to solve a puzzle to complete the quest. The puzzle is fairly simple, so head to the left, and you will see three rune symbols. Look at those symbols carefully and then activate the symbols on the fallen pillar on the right side in that exact order. As you do that, the puzzle will be completed, and you will get a note that you can then give to that old man in the library.
Head To The Goblin Slaver Camp

After solving the puzzle, travel to the Goblin Slaver Camp just at the northeast side of the map to continue your progress. Be careful as you go ahead, as there are a few goblins waiting for you in the area. Carefully attack them and try to utilize your charged attacks as much as possible during these fights. For some reason, if you are not too close to the goblins and are using charged attacks, they will not instantly attack you, which can give you a slight advantage.

Defeat the goblins and then enter the tent, but be aware that there is going to be another goblin inside waiting for you. Defeat it as well and loot the tent, and you will get a long-range weapon that can be useful in upcoming encounters. Then head out of the tent, go ahead, and open the second cage to free Kel. As you free him, select the first option, and you will now have your first companion fighting alongside you.

After that, head right and defeat one more goblin that you will encounter on the way. By now, you are most likely to be low on health, as fighting so many goblins early on can be quite tough. So, you can use Recall to head back to Rivenbrook Keep to heal your injuries. However, before you do that, make sure to loot the entire area properly so you do not miss out on any useful items or resources.
Head To The Entrance To Rockmanor

At the northernmost section of the map, you will see the entrance to the Rockmanor area. Travel there and then head right. There will be a couple of people standing there, so talk to them and then continue heading right. This interaction will reveal the location of Rockmanor on your map. As you move further right, you will enter the Rockmanor area.
Explore The Rockmanor

Go right, and right next to the glass of beer, you will see a person standing nearby. Interact with the beer first to gain its benefit, and then talk to the person right next to it and select the first option. Continue the conversation to start a quest, and then jump to the house just ahead and enter it.
As you go inside, talk to Whitebeard Advarri, and as you do, the Long-Lost Kin quest will be completed. Continue talking to him, and you will receive a new quest called Rockmanor’s Problems.

When you are done talking to him, jump and dash to the house on the left side. Then, head left and talk to Rockwarden Jari to ask him more about this goblin problem. As you are talking to him, he will give you a quest which you can accept. However, you would have already completed that quest, as you have taken care of the goblins in the goblin slaver camp.
So, select the second option, and the Kill the Goblin Slavers quest will complete. Then, head right and talk to Ander. As you talk to him, it will complete the Recruit the Master Merchants quest. After talking, head right and attack the timbers to pick them up. There will be some food to the right of the timbers, too, so make sure to collect it.
Head To The Abandoned Mine

Now, on the northwest side, you will see a new, unknown location. Head there, and you will reach the abandoned mine. Head to the right, loot the bodies, destroy the boxes, and collect the timber along the way. Then continue heading right, and you will finally be able to gather some stone. Make sure to attack first to destroy the structure so you can collect the stone properly.
Collect All Stone From The Mine

After picking up some stone, head up the stairs and jump to the right to get more stone. Then collect additional stones from below and continue moving to the right. You will find more stone, and there will be one person standing on the top right platform.
Using the ladder, head up and then jump to the right. After that, talk to the person and ask him to follow you so you can protect him. Take him with you to the very left side of the mine and then talk to him again. However, do note that a lot of goblins are going to appear, so make sure not to let him die. Otherwise, the quest will fail. After you have successfully taken him to the left side of the cave, ask him to join your settlement, and the area will be cleared.

You can talk to Osman to assign tasks to the workers. However, you will first have to repair the destroyed storehouse. You should also have enough stone to repair the Collapsed Training Hall. You can reassign your skills at the training hall, so if you do not like any skill you have, you can simply unassign it and learn another one instead. Now, unlock the area to the left of the runegate. Then you will discover a new place called Plains Goblin Camp.
Head To The Plains Goblin Camp

As you reach the area, head to the right, and you will encounter some goblins ahead. Some of them will be using spears, so they will be throwing them at you. Because of this, you will need to be careful and take them out slowly while managing your positioning. Do not play too aggressively and make sure to block; you may end up dying.
Defeat The Goblins and Loot Everything

Carefully deal with the goblins. There are going to be even more enemies ahead, so avoid taking unnecessary damage. After defeating the first group, enter the first tent and loot it completely. Then head to the right, destroy the boxes, and enter the second tent. Loot it, head back out, go right, open the chest, and pick up everything. There will also be a chest inside the second tent, so make sure you collect that as well.
Then move forward and fight more goblins. Even if you die, there is no need to worry because the goblins will not respawn, so you can easily defeat the remaining ones afterward. After defeating all the goblins, head further right, enter the last tent, loot it, then go outside, continue right, collect more loot, and finally open the cage to free the captured dwarf. This will add a new worker to your town.
Head Back To The Rockmanor

You were required to clear out the Plains Goblin Camp, so head back to the Rockmanor and talk to Rockwarden Jari. This will complete the Clear Out the Plains Goblin Camp quest. After that, select the first dialogue option, which is Tell me about the missing scout of yours.
This will start The Missing Rockwarden Scout quest, and a new location called Deepstone Hollow will be revealed. By now, you should be around level five, so make sure to unlock the skills that suit your playstyle. Deepstone Hollow is located just to the right of the Rockmanor, so discover the area first and then head to the location.
Head To Deepstone Hollow

After reaching Deepstone Hollow, head to the right, and you will meet a person named Kierkli. While talking to him, choose the second option and then the first one. Continue the conversation and then accept the quest. With that, the A Finder of Fortunes quest will be triggered.
Move forward, and there will be some small monsters ahead. Defeat them and clear the area. Continue to the right, and you will reach a new area called Cave That Smells Like Meat.
Clear The Cave That Smells Like Meat

Head to the right, and you will find a dead body. Loot it and then continue moving right. There will be a goblin on top of a platform. To defeat this goblin, you will have to shoot it with a projectile, and you should already have a weapon for that. After defeating the goblin, head right and be careful, as two goblins will come out of the first tent. Defeat them, and there will be more enemies ahead.
Defeat The Giant Goblin

Once you have taken care of the smaller goblins, loot the tents and then head right to encounter a giant goblin. There will also be a couple of additional goblins nearby, so try to defeat them before focusing on the larger enemy. It is recommended to use a spear and charge your attacks while moving backward.
Note: Make sure not to move too far to the right. Getting close enough to trigger the giant goblin is sufficient. If you go too far, you will also attract other goblins, which will make the fight significantly harder.
This approach will deal a lot of damage and increase your chances of surviving. After defeating them, head right and eliminate any remaining goblins. Then loot everything inside and outside the tents. You will also find a survivor inside a cage.
Unlock the cage to free the Rockwarden Scout. Talk to him, and the Missing Rockwarden Scout quest will be updated. At the same time, the A Finder of Fortunes quest will be completed. After that, loot the entire area and then continue to the right. This will trigger a new quest called A Furry Friend.
Explore The Verdant Cavern

Kierkli will also appear in this area, so talk to him and select the first option. You can also talk to the cat and ask it to join your settlement, which is a nice addition. Speak to the cat to complete the A Furry Friend quest. After that, talk to Kierkli again, and you will be able to choose between two artifacts.
The Larian Covenant is suitable for players who prefer long-range weapons like a bow, while the other option is related to enchantment. It is recommended to choose the enchantment option, as selecting the Void Ring provides useful benefits.
Head Back To The Base

By now, you will likely have taken some damage, so it is a good time to return to the base. Once you arrive, Calostos will ask you to follow him because he wants to show you the destroyed library. After the conversation ends, the Echoes of the Past quest will begin.
The library requires 100 stones to repair, which you can gather from the abandoned mine. You may not have enough yet, so if you want to repair it immediately, head back to the mine and collect more. If you still need additional stone, you can revisit the mine multiple times to gather what you need.
After upgrading the library, the Echoes of the Past quest will be updated.
With that, the first part of the Regions of Ruin: Runegate walkthrough comes to an end. The next part will continue from this point. Looking for more interesting walkthroughs? Please check the ones below:
