Welcome to the Into Indie Games guide to Return to Monkey Island! This guide was written with Hard Mode in mind, but Casual Mode users need not fear as the guide will note wherever the casual mode is different.

Part 1: A Friendly Place

Section 5 (Map to the Tree)

After Carla has accepted your apology, borrow the cookbook. With the book in hand, you can now leave the mansion and return to the Scumm Bar’s kitchen. Give the book to the cook.

Once the cook gets busy, get your knife from your inventory and use it on the mop. Leave the kitchen, exit the bar, and then head on over to Maps-n-More on Low Street. Once you have the map, examine it. The map appears to depicted a very forested area, which could be in the interior of Melee Island.

Now return to the Lookout and ‘head for the island interior’. Alternately, you can take the path to the right of the governor’s mansion. Either way, you’ll find the fast travel map for Melee Island.

Check the blue area in the northern portion of the island to find ‘The Forest’, which is where we’ll go now.

In the Forest, go a little to the right to find a bridge and a museum – which are depicted on the map. So now enter the deep dark forest (to the left of the screen, near where you entered this screen originally).
