Saros: Ancient Ruins Walkthrough

Saros Walkthrough

Welcome to the Into Indie Games walkthrough for Ancient Ruins in Saros.

Defeating the Prophet and returning to the Passage allows Arjun to communicate with Project and head towards the Ancient Ruins. This is the second major area of Saros, where you will face new enemies and interact with an unfamiliar environment.

In this walkthrough, we cover the entire chapter of these mechanical, eerie ruins.

Using The World Dial

Saros Ancient Ruins
Traveling To The Ancient Depths With Project.

After you defeat the Prophet and return to the Passage, talk to Project and access the world dial, which allows you to shift between different worlds.

Change it to Ancient Ruins and begin your adventure. If you unlock newer abilities and want to experiment with them in the previous levels, change the world dial to that level, for example, Shattered Rise.

Ancient Ruins – Locate The Soltari Signal

Entering The Ancient Depths.

The first major objective inside the Ancient Ruins is to find the Soltari Signal. When you reach the ruins, walk through the giant door, and from here, the sub-objectives begin.

Continue Deeper Into The Depths

Activating The First Jump Network Pad.

Descend into the ruins until you find a golden platform below. There were numerous platforms like these in Shattered Rise, too. Arjun’s team activates the platform, which then becomes a Jump Network pad. Jumping on them provides you with a height boost.

Climb up the ledge with the jump network pad, and break the barrier to your right to find a blue crystal. However, you won’t be able to get it directly with a single jump. So, drop down into the room and use a jump pad to get to the crystal. Get the Carcosan Key, and go through the spinning lasers to find a yellow crystal.

Now, return to the main room and use the jump pad to follow the objective’s location. This whole section is covered with jump pads, so use them regularly to reach higher ledges and find secrets.

Reach the main path, indicated by a blue flag on the map, and there you will find a Soltari Shotgun, the third weapon in Arjun’s arsenal.

Locate Depths Vault Devices

A Side Path Leading To The Smoke Hologram Room.

Defeat the enemies that spawn here to understand how the Shotgun works, and then keep moving forward.

This is where you enter the Ancient Ruins properly, with two main paths, one side path (white flag), and an Overlord (story boss) room.

For now, explore the side path if you’d like, and then enter the main path to your left, as the right door is blocked.

Note: From this point onward, every run is randomized. So, I can't really pinpoint an exact location of an important item. However, I can tell you what you can find in the Ancient Ruins. So, keep facing enemies head-on and explore all the areas you can.

Rotating Lasers.

From the enemies, to lasers, and to platforming sections, everything will be randomized. However, the randomization doesn’t include the main objective locations and the room with two main paths and one Boss room.

One thing to note is that if you die while locating the depth vault device, you may have to enter the right room then; the eclipse barrier can shift depending on your run.

During a run in the Ancient Ruins, you may find another power weapon called the Dispiritor, which shoots numerous tracking bullets that damage the affected enemies over time.

Additionally, solar cages are a must, and you will have to fight your way through to access the further main paths. After finding the Depth Vault Device, you will return to the main room, and there, Arjun will initiate the Eclipse, breaking the barrier on one of the paths.

Activate The Vault Devices (1/2)

Saros Ancient Ruins
Moving Through The Industrial Complex.

With the first vault device now being active and the eclipse barrier broken, head to the other main path to continue finding the next vault device.

This entire area is crawling with enemies, and since it’s now eclipse, prepare to fight off even more potent enemies. Make sure to maintain your momentum, keep shooting, and avoid incoming enemy bullets.

The final Solar Cage is extremely difficult since it takes place in a closed room with a cliff in the middle.

Bastion.

Once that’s done, you will find the second Vault Device, and Jerome will scream for help. Now, return to the main room and head inside the boss’s room to battle against Bastion.

Bastion Boss Fight

Shooting an Assault Rifle At Bastion.

Unlike Prophet, Bastion focuses more on repeating attacks and relies on triggering platforms that damage you if you stay on them for too long. Additionally, the boss doesn’t have sub-phases and will die as soon as its three health bars are depleted. However, it’s a technical fight that changes its course after every attack.

Bastion begins with a simple attack of bullet patterns. Don’t stray from the battlefield too much, as there are platforms at left and right that would damage you if you stay on them for too long.

Bastion, defeated.

Dodge through/block the yellow bullets to avoid corruption, absorb the blue bullets to charge your power and use a Power Weapon, and only dodge through the red bullets. Every phase has similar attacks, but their potency and speed increase as you go below a certain threshold.

That’s the whole flow of the boss fight; bullets will swap locations with each other to puzzle you. So, keep moving, keep an eye on the bullets (remember their colors and properties), and face the boss head-on to defeat it.

Visiting The Room Ahead Bastion.

When Bastion dies, go through the newly revealed door to find Jerome. However, before Arjun can find him, an unknown entity arrives and attacks him, leaving him unconscious.

Now, a familiar face will save Arjun, after which it’s time to exit the Ancient Depths to enter the third area of the game: Shattered Descent.
