Saros: Shattered Descent Walkthrough

Saros Walkthrough

Welcome to the Into Indie Games walkthrough for Shattered Descent in Saros.

Arjun survives the battle with Bastion, but, unfortunately, it isn’t the same case with Jerome, as he dies in a battle while Arjun is busy fighting with the overlord boss. With both vault keys in hand, it’s now time to leave the Ancient Ruins.

In this walkthrough of Saros, we cover the Shattered Descent Area, which follows the Bastion boss fight. Additionally, you will also find all the unique enemies of this area and how to counter them.

Entering Shattered Descent – Locate the Soltari Signal

Saros Shattered Descent
Path To The Surface.

After defeating Bastion and exiting the arena from a door behind it, use the Jump Network pads to move across the platforms. Keep climbing upwards to reach the surface and enter Shattered Descent, the third major area of the game.

Discover Echelon Signal Origin

Saros Shattered Descent
The Shattered Descent.

The first objective is to find Echelon III’s signal origin, as you can find the team’s hideout here. Head inside, pick up the red box containing Echelon’s information, and return to The Passage. Follow the objective’s location on the map.

However, Kayla reveals that no information has been logged on the box for centuries, explaining how time flows differently on Carcosa. Arjun doesn’t buy it.

Returning To The Passage

Arjun Entering The Passage.

Head to Primary and open it to spend your Lucenites as you like. We recommend focusing more on your Armor’s integrity. Set the world dial to Shattered Descent to continue exploring it. Additionally, the game opens the Carcosan Modifiers section, which lets you set modifiers to either help you during the run or make it more challenging.

Note: Protections serve as helpful modifiers, and trials can introduce newer challenges to your run. I would suggest to complete the game first, get all the important items, and then revisit the areas to use these modifiers.

Traverse Shattered Descent

Descending Into The Main Areas of Shattered Descent.

Back in Shattered Descent, interact with a panel to receive the Grapple, which can hook onto the purple points found all over Carcosa. Get across the gap with the grapple hook, and use the elevator to reach the lower levels.

The Eclipse Initiator.

And from this point, all of the runs will be randomized, excluding the objective locations. Unlike other areas so far, a Shattered Descent run begins with Carcosan Eclipse, so make sure you have all the important skills unlocked.

Additionally, this area consists of numerous, explode-able plants that deal damage to anyone in their vicinity. If you don’t know where to go, check your map and follow the path with a blue flag, which represents the main path.

Speak With the Soltari Survivor

Saros Shattered Descent
Entering Soltari Temple.

After defeating all the enemies in your way, enter the Soltari temple and talk to Eli, a survivor from Echelon III.

When their conversation ends, head inside the next chamber to unlock the Overdrive ability by pressing L3+R3. It accumulates all the power and shoots out a beam that blasts the enemies on contact.

Reach The Carcosan City

Saros Shattered Descent
Using Overdrive For The First Time.

See the massive buildings throughout the entire biome? That’s where your next location lies. So, descend the temple to enter a Solar Cage with multiple Rupture enemies. Use your Overdrive ability there to kill a handful of them immediately. Doing so also increases Aether’s spawn rate.

Depending on your RNG, you may come across a room called the Nightmare Strand, which is a high-level, deadly room with trial modifiers on. If you manage to overcome this challenge, your second chance ability will be replenished.

Entrance To The Nightmare Strand.

Within a few moments of traveling to the city, you will reach the Shattered Descent’s boss: Rhabdom.

Rhabdom Boss Fight

Rhabdom’s Solar Cage.

Rhabdom surpasses both Bastion and Prophet in terms of speed and potency. Fighting in an arena with four different hook points, Rhabdom will follow you everywhere you go, and it has three different attack types:

  • Close Range: If you stand too close to Rhabdom, it will execute melee attacks on Arjun, delivering staggering damage.
  • Medium Range: Keeping a medium distance from Rhabdom is recommended, but if you stay still for too long, it will jump towards Arjun, and every stomp releases 100s of red bullets near it.
  • Long Range: At a huge distance, Rhabdom will throw a massive ball of blue bullets that hunt you down. If below 50%, the blue bullets will turn yellow, dealing corruption damage.
Shooting At Rhabdom.

The key to defeating Rhabdom is to stay on the move consistently. It doesn’t have phases like other bosses and will attack you with everything it has.

The best distance to keep is medium. Close-range attacks are rather hard to dodge due to their hitboxes, and shooting the boss from long range can lead to poor aim due to recoil.

Rhabdom, Defeated.

So, keep enough distance from the boss to make it stomp and release red bullets at you. For its counter, stay mid air, and use the grapple points to get away from the boss instantly; it stomps three times in a row. Since the boss predicts your movement, you can confuse it by regularly grappling with the hook points without climbing the ledges.

(Grapple on a hook -> Press L1 before reaching its end -> grab the other hook mid air)

Repeating this process, using the Power weapon and the grappler mechanics, will put an end to this boss.

Enemies of Shattered Descent

Rupture

New Enemy #1: Rupture

Rupture is a blessed beast roaming the Shattered Descent with its pack and is extremely nimble. It shoots blue and yellow bullets from a distance and can evade all of your attacks easily.

To counter it, rush forward and close the distance between you and Rupture, and then melee it. It’s extremely vulnerable to melee attacks, or if you would like to keep it safe, then shoot it.

Harbinger

New Enemy #2: Harbinger

Harbinger is a giant, slender creature roaming Shattered Descent, who isn’t as fast as a Rupture, but can teleport away to Arjun’s blind spot, making it dangerously unpredictable. They can fire all types of bullets, especially focusing on the corruption builder bullets.

The best way to counter a Harbinger is to be on the move consistently and not let go of the trigger.

Primal Flexion

New Enemy #3: Primal Flexion

Unlike a normal Flexion, Primal Flexion flies fast and simultaneously shoots yellow (corruption) bullets at Arjun. If not dealt with early, they can dive and sequentially approach your location to attack you.

Utilize the dodge button, and don’t stop moving as you shoot them. Use the Power weapon to deal significant damage to a Primal Flexion.

Healing Towers

New Enemy #4: Healing Tower

While all the other enemies attack, Healing Towers continuously heal all the enemies in an area. The Healing Tower makes enemies invincible, so whenever it appears, your top priority should be to destroy this tower first. Note that it’s invulnerable to bullets.
