The First Step

After the opening cutscene, as you’re falling, the Inner Voice wakes you up. Run through the dialogue and click on the three cards: Judgement, The World, and Death.

After this, you’re thrust into the very first combat encounter of the game. Just follow the instructions and make sure to use Grit before it’s the enemy’s turn to gain a shield and negate as much damage as possible.Â

Just when you think you’ve won the fight, a massive bird flies into the arena, squashing your opponent. This massive beast is Shrike, the Judging Bird.
You can’t win this fight. There’s an obstacle beside the boss that you can target. Break the obstacle to make your escape for now.

Escaping the battle, you’re pulled into another conversation with the Inner Voice. Run through the dialogue. You’ll get a new objective once you’re done: Escape the Shrike’s Lair.

When the dialogue ends, you’ll find yourself on the overworld. You can explore the overworld by clicking on the nodes. There are preset paths that you’ll have to follow.

Head east toward the wreckage. The Eastern Gate to the right is blocked for now. There’s also a person in robes nearby.

Talk to him. This is the Scholar, but no matter what you say, he won’t join you right now. Â
The Western Path

Follow the western path next. You’ll get into another fight on the Pathway. Take out the monsters using what you’ve learned so far.

Head to the Corridor, and a stranger will ambush you from behind. Run through the dialogue, and the Exile will join your party. You’ll also get the Passing Step card during the conversation.

Follow the path to reach the Iron Gate. You’ll need the Iron Key to unlock it.

Head down to the Fork in the Road. There will be three paths ahead of you now.
Finding the Iron Key

First, head south toward the man sitting by the fire pit. This is the Nest Dweller. Run through his dialogue, and you’ll enter a fight.

Now you can either attack the Nest Dweller to get the Cheater Card right away. Alternatively, you can just Redraw your cards to pass Time. Do this three times to win the Staring Contest. This will give you the Staring Champ card.

Follow the conversation with the Nest Dweller afterward. You now have to give him either the Memory of a Monk or the Memory of a Player. But you’ll have to find these items first.

Return to the Fork in the Road and head left toward the dog. Regardless of what option you choose, you’re going to have to fight it.

Take out the monster to unlock two more paths ahead of you. Go to the Iron Chest and interact with it.

This will take you to a Skill Check. We went with Smash the chest’s lock to get the Dull Sword card. The chest contains the Memory of a Monk and the Memory of a Player.

With the Memories retrieved, we can go back to the Nest Dweller. We gave him the Memory of a Player and kept the Memory of a Monk for ourselves. In return, the Nest Dweller will give you the Iron Key.

Head back to the Iron Gate and use the Iron Key to open it. This will also activate a Checkpoint to heal and save your progress.
Before moving on, make sure you collect Linnaeus’ Journal #1 and #2 from the locations marked in the image above.
Heading to Shrike’s Nest

Head toward the passage beyond the Iron Gate. You’ll have to fight a Legionnaire here.

Take out both enemies. Winning this fight grants you the Shard of the Past Bow for the Exile.

Pick up Linnaeus’ Journal #3 at the next node and then move to the Stone Statues. Interact with it and choose three correct phrases. The correct choice is written on the three Linnaeus’ Journal pages you’ve picked up:
‘Sinners Feasting Upon The Guilty’
This will grant you the Memory of an Illusionist item.

Head to the Pathway past the statues and click on the monsters. This will trigger a conversation with the Scholar, and he’ll join your party as well.

Defeat the monsters to get the Vengeance Sword for the Warrior.

Winning the fight activates another Checkpoint. When you’re ready, move to the Shrike’s Nest and face the boss.
How to Beat Shrike, The Judging Bird

Shrike, The Judging Bird will serve as your first real challenge. But with all three party members now acquired, you should be able to best it.

Always check the boss’s attack counter to see which position it’s going to attack. Then swap your Warrior to the position to tank the damage with his shield.

Exile’s Weakening can be an excellent card for this battle as you can lower the boss’s damage output significantly.

Around halfway through the battle, Shrike will summon a Spectral Nail with 30 HP to the fight.

After the Nail’s Attack Time runs out, it will impale one of your characters, taking them out of the fight. To get your character back, make sure you take out the Spectral Nail first.

Shrike only has 140 HP, which isn’t that much to get through. Keep attacking the boss, and eventually, it’ll go down.

After defeating the boss, you’ll get the Shrike’s Feathers quest item. On top of that, the Eastern Gate that was blocked earlier will be open.

Head to the gate where you’ll get ambushed by an entity. This is a scripted fight, and there’s no way you can win.

Once the fight ends, you’ll find yourself outside at the Chapel in the Purged Village.
