Star Birds Walkthrough – Sector 4

Star Birds

Star Birds Walkthrough

Star Birds is a resource management game where you mine asteroids and explore the uncharted depths of space with our bird friends. For more information on Star Birds, don’t forget to check out their official Steam page.

In the last Sector, our spacefaring birds’ crew went 96 years into the future as they traveled through space, tracing the origins of a mysterious object. Let’s find out what awaits them there in this walkthrough!

Introduction

The crew wakes up after their long slumber in the cryo-eggs, and they are greeted by a frozen area. You’ll be looking for any traces of Strangelets, a unique material from deep space that was tracked to this area.

As the view shifts to the map, you’ll see many asteroids, some of which are discovered, while others require you to investigate them manually.

Settling In

First, you’ll have to set up a base camp. The game doesn’t give you many instructions here. You’ll receive a quest from the Captain.

The quest requires you to raise your station level. You can do so by completing any modules, so set up base camp on any of the asteroids. We’ll start with the one that has Silicon and Water.

Set up extractors, so you have a steady supply of resources to complete the modules. Once the resources start to come in, in our case, it’s the Silicon, then accept the Engine Room module.

Now, new module quests will show up. See which material you want to mine next and accept the module according to it.

Let’s accept the Manufacturing Unit module quest and set up a launch pad on the Aluminium/Silicon asteroid. Set up a few extractors to mine Aluminium, and that would complete the second module quest, raising your Station Level to 2.

Searching For The Strangelets

The Captain will show up to tell you it’s time to look for Strangelets, but no quest or directions are given. Now, you’ll have to look at each asteroid to see if there’s anything unusual.

You’ll have plenty of Tech points at the start to spare. Use them to discover the surrounding asteroids and enter them to see if they have the strange object on them or not.

Once you find such an asteroid, set up a launch pad on it, and that would advance the progress. You’ll then have to set up an excavation hub on the strange object on the asteroid.

After you’ve done so, you’ll receive a quest from Ruth. Ruth will be asking for Water, but you can’t collect Water with regular extractors in this star system for some reason.

Researching The Ice Extractor

You can immediately start researching the ice extractor, but you’ll need to deliver Sulfur and Aluminum to the starship. You’ve already got a steady supply of Aluminum, so you’ll have to head to the map and set up a launch pad on an asteroid that has Sulfur.

You can keep completing Supply quests alongside everything you’re doing. This will keep the Credits and Tech points coming for all the buildings we’re going to build here.

Head to the asteroid with Sulfur and set up several extractors there. After you’ve gathered the required resources, ice extractors will become available to build.

Collecting Water With Ice Extractors

Now that you’ve got ice extractors, you’ll be able to mine Methane and Water. For now, Ruth’s quest requires you to deliver Water directly to the excavator hub, but that asteroid doesn’t have any on it.

The Sulfur/Water/Aluminium asteroid we’re currently on has plenty of water reserves, so you can just set up another launch pad and build a few ice extractors here.

Now, go back to the excavator asteroid and set up a landing pad here, so you can receive Water. After you’ve delivered Water to the excavation hub, Ruth will give you another quest, and this time, they’ll be asking for Plastic.

Looking Into Plastic

After accepting the quest, you can click on the Plastic icon on the quest board to see how to craft it. You’ll see that you need Hydrocarbon to craft Plastic. But, for Hydrocarbon, you need to combine Water and Carbon.

We’ve already got Water, but crafting Carbon is the main obstacle here. Before anything else, we’ll have to secure a steady supply of resources required to craft Carbon.

Crafting Carbon

To craft Carbon, you’ll have to combine Methane and Oxygen in a chemical lab. Go to the map and see if any of the asteroids have both of these resources present on them.

Gather enough Tech points by completing modules, and then you should start discovering all of the asteroids. This will allow you to figure out which asteroid has what to offer.

Luckily, one of the asteroids has both Water and Methane to offer, alongside Uranium. Set up a launch pad on this asteroid.

After setting up a launch pad, you’ll have to build a chemical lab. Set up an ice extractor on Water and Methane and link them to the chemical lab.

However, before you connect the ice extractor on Water to the chemical lab, you’ll have to place a refiner in between. We need Oxygen and not Water to craft Carbon.

If you’ve done it right, you’d have a steady supply of Carbon for now.

Crafting Plastic From Hydrocarbon

Hydrocarbon requires you to combine Water and Carbon in a chemical lab. Fortunately, we don’t have to go anywhere else for any of the materials.

Set up another chemical lab and connect the Carbon production to it alongside Water from an ice extractor.

Getting Plastic from Hydrocarbon is easy. You only have to place a refiner between the second chemical lab and the launch pad.

Now that you’re producing Plastic, you’ll have to send it to the excavator asteroid. Go to the map and reroute the Water transport line from the excavator asteroid back to the station because you don’t need that there anymore.

Drag the Plastic icon to the excavator asteroid’s launch pad, so that we can fulfill the quest’s requirement. After completing this quest, you’ll get another request from Ruth, and this time, they’ll be asking for Ceramic, Circuit Board, and Energy.

Crafting Ceramic

Ceramic can be crafted at a crucible by combining Carbon and Aluminium. We don’t need Plastic anymore, so we can take the Carbon production from there and use it to produce Ceramic.

Head back to the asteroid where you had built the Plastic production. There’s no Aluminium here, so you’ll have to bring that here from somewhere else. Set up a landing pad for that and link the Aluminium transport line to it.

Now, build a crucible and link Carbon and the Aluminium coming from the landing pad to it. Don’t forget to set up three solar panels to provide energy to the crucible. After you’ve started producing Ceramic, you’ll have to send that to the excavation hub.

Open the map and route the Ceramic transport line to the excavation asteroid. Note that you only need 10 units of Ceramic to complete the objective. Once that’s done, you can focus on other resources.

Crafting Circuit Board

To craft a Circuit Board, you’ll need to combine Acid and Silicon in a component lab, which is a building that we’ve yet to unlock. Acid requires Sulfur and Water to be combined in a chemical lab, so we’ll have to head to the asteroid that has both of these resources.

Setting up Acid production is also important because you’ll have to gather some of it anyway, as it is a required material for the component lab’s research.

Set up a chemical lab on this asteroid and link Water and Sulfur to it. You can break apart the extractors that you set up earlier or build new ones.

Now that you’ve got Acid production going, it’s time to research the component lab. It will be done quickly, and then you can focus on bringing Silicon to this asteroid.

Set up a landing pad and route the Silicon transport line to it. Return to the asteroid after that and build a component lab. Link the Silicon coming from the landing pad and the Acid production to it. The component lab will need energy. Set up a few solar panels for it.

For the final step, head back to the map and send the produced Circuit Boards to the excavation asteroid.

Producing Energy

The final step is the easiest one yet. The excavation hub needs one last resource, and that is energy. You’ll have to send 5 energy to the excavation hub to complete Sector 4.

To produce energy, you’ll have to set up solar panels and put them in the sunlight. After you connect up to 5 solar panels and link them to the excavation hub, Sector 5 will be completed, and you’ll see a short cutscene.

The cutscene shows Stella bringing the Strangelets together, and then they combine to everyone’s surprise. What aways our bird friends next? We’ll simply have to progress ahead to find out.
