Welcome to the Into Indie Games walkthrough of Medhelan, City of Stone, in Stonemachia.

Stonemachia is a soulslike game where you play as a pawn who can transform into other chess pieces. Your aim is to fight the angels and make your way back to heaven. On your journey, you will have to fight many enemies and tough bosses. For more information, head over to its Steam page.

As Stonemachia is a soulslike game, there are going to be many challenges that you may face. So, in order to make things easier for you, we will provide you with a complete walkthrough of the second area in Stonemachia, Medhelan, City of Stone.

As you reach Medhelan, move ahead, and you will find the chessboard. You can talk to the NPC at the start for a brief overview of the area. Head right from the chessboard and note that the rolling NPCs will not attack you, so you do not have to waste your time fighting them.

Keep moving ahead while defeating the enemies, and eventually you will reach an area where an enemy is standing at the top of a pillar. As you get close, the enemy will jump down and begin attacking you. This enemy is fast, but luckily does not deal that much damage.

Parrying it is going to be tricky, so do not bother trying to parry the combos. Instead, wait for the single hit, parry it, and strike the enemy afterward. It is almost like a mini boss, so this enemy will naturally have more health than the regular enemies.

Keep Progressing In The City Of Stone

After you have defeated the enemy, pick up the vinyl from the left side of the pillar. Then cross the pillar and follow the path to the right. Keep moving ahead while defeating the enemies, and do note that a strange type of enemy will appear. There are going to be several hands that keep attacking you, so unless you manage to parry them, they are going to swarm you and deal massive damage.

So, if you want to avoid fighting them, simply keep running ahead. While sprinting, jump and then press the dodge button to traverse the area faster. Keep moving ahead, and eventually you will come across an enemy whose weapon is ablaze. After fighting for a short while, this enemy will lose its weapon, and once that happens, it will begin attacking with its hands.

Take care of this enemy and then continue moving ahead while defeating the other enemies. As you progress, you will eventually come across a train. Once you reach the train, move just a little farther ahead, and a cutscene will commence.

Defeat Derasin

Fighting Derasin in Stonemachia, Medhelan, City of Stone.

Derasin is a tough boss because it has both delayed attacks and extremely fast ones. The boss usually starts the fight with a two-hit combo, with the first attack being delayed. The second hit is not extremely fast, but it is still much quicker than the first one, which can easily throw you off rhythm at the beginning.

After you have successfully parried both of these attacks, Derasin will continue the combo with another slash and then follow it up with a poke. Here, the slash and poke can also be used separately, which makes the fight more challenging. The slash itself appears delayed, but the speed at which Derasin covers distance is incredibly fast.

As you create some distance, the boss will perform a ranged attack that is relatively slow. You can dodge it easily, but that attack itself is not the actual problem. She usually follows it up with the same slash attack, with the follow-up either being another slash or a poke.

The boss can also perform double slam attacks, which are by far the easiest moves to parry.

Phase Two

After you have depleted around 50 percent of the boss’s health, or possibly slightly more, the fight will enter phase two. The moveset becomes much flashier, but honestly, it also becomes easier to parry. Derasin will leap backward and perform a wide slash.

Additionally, the two-slash combo will now become a three-hit combo, but the slash-and-poke sequence will remain the same. Do note that the boss also gains another move where it charges the poke and then leaps toward you. Another new move occurs when Derasin rotates the sword along the ground before charging directly at you. Fortunately, this attack can also be parried quite easily.

Keep Progressing

Once you have defeated the boss, head inside the train and climb up using the ladder. Keep your focus on the right side because there are going to be wooden platforms that you need to jump onto. Once you have done that, continue upward and follow the path ahead.

There will be a key monster waiting for you. Defeat it, and a gate will open. Drop down to the right side from where you defeated the key monster, and the newly opened door should be behind you. Inside, there are going to be many enemies, so take all of them down, and eventually, a new enemy will appear, which is also going to function like a mini boss.

Defeat The Mini Boss

It will be a snake-type enemy with a moveset similar to Derasin. However, when the enemy swallows its sword, the moveset is going to change completely. It will then begin leaping toward you and attacking with its mouth. Parry it as it gets close to you and then continue attacking afterward. Dodging also works well against this enemy.

After you have dealt enough damage, the mini boss will take the sword back out, and then the transformation changes depending on how long the fight lasts. Once the fight is over, move ahead, break the jar to get the giant feather, and then head left to find the starting point once again.

Use the chessboard to level up and then go north. From the pitch-black creature, head left and keep progressing while defeating the enemies. Eventually, you will come across a giant enemy that can fly. Right next to it will be a door that you need to unlock, but first, this mini-boss needs to be dealt with.

Defeat Another Mini Boss

This enemy flies around a lot, so if you are patient with your parries, you should not have much trouble. Most of the attacks are going to be slow, but not all of them. There is one attack where the enemy flies backward and then suddenly leaps toward you. This attack is going to be extremely fast, so you will need to stay alert.

Once you have defeated the mini boss, head north and then go right to find a chessboard, level up, and then head in the opposite direction. There you will find an NPC named Braachiel. Talk to it and then proceed further ahead (make sure to agree to summon Behemoth so it can help you in the fight).

Interact with the giant feather, and you will be teleported to a different location. Attack the altar you see ahead, and the Behemoth will appear to help you win the fight.

Defeat The Leviathan

Behemoth’s alter in Stonemachia, Medhelan, City of Stone.

This is not going to be a duo boss fight, as you just have to defeat Leviathan. Simply start attacking the target, and Behemoth will help you.

Start the fight by attacking the one on the right, Leviatano, and you mainly need to be aware of its wide swings. Behemoth will actually help you win the fight because it will also be attacking Leviathan. The attacks are not very complicated to parry, but if you are having a hard time parrying, you can dodge instead.

Even if you are parrying this boss, the timing may still feel difficult whenever Leviatano performs a sweeping slash. It usually does this after charging the sword underwater for a short while.

There is another attack you need to be careful of, and that is the overhead slam. The attack itself is not very difficult to parry, but do note that there is a heavily delayed follow-up afterward. So make sure you parry that as well. Once you have taken down Leviathan, the fight is basically over, but you can try your luck with The Behemoth too.

Take Down Behemoth (Optional)

Now, Behemoth will no longer use projectiles constantly. Instead, it will attack using slashes from its claws, which are relatively easy to parry. However, the move you really need to be careful of is when it goes underwater and leaves behind a shadow-like mark.

When that happens, dodge away immediately because it will emerge from the ground with an active hitbox. It does occasionally use the projectile attack every now and then, so do not let it catch you off guard. Other than that, you mainly need to be careful of the overhead tail attack.

That said, if this boss becomes too difficult for you, do not worry. You actually do not have to defeat it. Simply get defeated by it, return to collect your feathers, and the boss will no longer be there. Interact with the tornado to return and then head back to the second chessboard.

The door will now be open, so proceed there. You will also meet Derasin again, so talk to her and then go through the open door. With that, the Medhelan, City of Stone, walkthrough in Stonemachia comes to an end.
