Welcome to the Into Indie Games walkthrough of the Quiet Sky and Empyrean Abbey areas in Stonemachia.
As the difficulty increases throughout the game, the later sections become noticeably more challenging than the earlier ones. The bosses are tougher, and the areas become more difficult to explore and navigate. In this guide, we will provide a thorough walkthrough of both the Quiet Sky area and the Empyrean Abbey area in Stonemachia.
Head over to the game’s Steam page for some information about it.

Stonemachia – Quiet Sky Walkthrough

As you reach the Quiet Sky area, use the chessboard to spend your feathers and then head toward the north side. A cutscene will then begin, and an explosion will occur inside the train. You will find yourself in the sky, and there will be several enemies ahead. Defeat them as you continue forward, and you will eventually reach a boss fight.
Select The Knight chess piece to cross this section more easily.
Defeat Ophanim’s Herald

As the boss fight against Ophanim’s Herald begins, the boss will immediately launch an AoE attack. This attack may look like it is about to hit you, but as you get closer, the orbs will spread farther apart. Move through the opening and begin attacking the boss.
The boss also has close-range attacks that are fairly simple to dodge or parry. Use the … chess piece and activate its special ability to create a circle. Once the circle is complete, you will automatically heal while standing inside it.
After that, switch to The Bishop or The Pawn and begin attacking. While fighting the boss, make sure to parry the simpler attacks or at least dodge them so you do not lose large portions of your health. Also note that whenever this boss launches its AoE attack, it rotates its tail aggressively. If you are standing too close, the tail can damage you.
Defeating this boss should not be particularly difficult, so once it has been defeated, head back to the train, continue forward, and you will reach a new area.
Head Out Of The Train
After arriving in the new area, exit the train, move forward, use the chessboard to spend your feathers, and then leave the building. Follow the path ahead, and the name of the location will appear.
Memory Island

Continue moving forward while ignoring the enemies, and you will eventually reach a mini-boss, Castling. This was a boss that appeared in one of the previous areas. You can ignore it as well if you want and continue progressing forward. The path itself is very straightforward, so if you get confused, simply follow the feathers, and they will guide you to the correct destination.
Eventually, you will arrive at a building and, once you do, you will notice several enemies fighting each other. Ignore them and head up the stairs. Continue climbing, and you will come across a chessboard. Ahead of the chessboard is an elevator that you can use to travel upward.
Once you reach the top, you will notice Castling fighting another enemy. That enemy is actually a boss, so once Castling is defeated, it will become aggressive toward you.
Defeat Ancient Mammalian King

This boss primarily attacks using a sword. There are several combos that it can perform at random. Sometimes it will do a simple overhead slam, while at other times it will follow the first slam with a second one and then charge up a delayed third strike.
When the Mammalian King performs its first strike from the right side, there will usually be only one follow-up attack coming from the left. However, if it begins an attack from the left side, it can perform a three-hit spinning combo. The Mammalian King can also perform a plunge attack despite not actually jumping into the air.
Second Phase

After you have removed a portion of the king’s health, you will be teleported to a different location. However, only the scenery changes, so you do not need to worry about learning a new moveset. Continue fighting the boss exactly as you were before.
That said, do note that once you have removed roughly 60 percent of the boss’s health, it will almost collapse onto the ground and begin summoning additional enemies (his health also reduces). During this period, the boss becomes vulnerable, so attack it as much as possible and take advantage of the opening.
Once the boss has been defeated, you will see a white light emerging from the ground. Interact with it, and you will be teleported back to the previous arena. From there, head down the stairs and, once you reach the bottom, drop through the hole. Then use the chessboard to level up and continue forward.

Jump to the building ahead, drop down on the right side, and continue following the path. Look for the feathers to help guide your way. Keep moving forward by traveling across the rooftops, and eventually you will come across Derasin. Talk to her and continue progressing.
A dangerous-looking parkour section comes next, but there is no need to worry. Even if you fall, a gust of wind will keep you airborne. Continue forward, and you will soon have to fight several enemies.
Defeat The Guardians

These enemies have a very simple moveset, so the fight itself is not particularly difficult. However, things are much easier when you are only fighting one Guardian at a time. The second Guardian can perform ranged attacks, so be careful and focus on defeating one enemy before switching your attention to the other.
If both Guardians are standing close together and you successfully parry one of them, both enemies will be affected and briefly stagger backward. Once you have defeated the Guardians, pick up the Giant Feather, continue ahead, and you will arrive at a new area.
Sweet Oasis Island

Once you reach Sweet Oasis Island, continue moving forward, and a cutscene will begin. After the cutscene ends, proceed ahead, drop down, and follow the path. All you need to do here is cross the floating building and, once you do, you will reach another new area.
Duelling Island

After arriving in the new area, use the chessboard if you have any feathers available and then head north. Defeat several enemies in order to trigger the next boss fight.
Note: Head right from the chessboard to find Barachiel and have a conversation with him. Select the first dialogue option if you are finding the Stone Cockatrice boss fight challenging, as this will allow you to summon The Behemoth during the encounter. Summoning The Behemoth makes the fight significantly easier, so if you are struggling with the boss, it is highly recommended that you choose this option.
Defeat Stone Cockatrice

This boss is aggressive and primarily uses its head and tail to attack. It can perform a face slam attack that comes in two variations. One version is a straightforward slam attack, while the other creates an AoE effect afterward. The boss can also leap into the air and launch itself toward you, attempting to strike with its face.
It can also move backward before swinging its tail while repositioning behind you. Aside from that, it has a dual face strike combo that can catch you off guard if you are not paying attention.
Second Phase

Once the second phase begins, the boss loses its head and becomes significantly more aggressive. This phase starts with a rushing attack that is usually followed by several slam attacks using its hands. It can perform the leap attack two or even three times in a row before immediately following up with a tail attack.
Do note that the tail attack can also have a follow-up of the same attack, although it will not happen every time. Another important thing to keep in mind is that most of the standing head slam attacks are much more likely to trigger an AoE explosion during this phase.
Once you have defeated the boss, interact with the circular structure in the center of the arena, and you will be teleported to another area. With that, the Quiet Sky area concludes in Stonemachia.
Stonemachia – Empyrean Abbey Walkthrough

Once you arrive in the new area, head north, go up the stairs, defeat the enemies, continue forward, and you will eventually come across a chessboard. Interact with it and then continue ahead. There will be several small Stonebook enemies throughout this area.
Defeat the smaller enemies first and then take down the larger one. Once all of them have been defeated, the path ahead will unlock. Move through it, circle around the stairs to pick up a vinyl, and then head up the stairs. Continue moving forward and make your way through the library. Climb even more stairs and, eventually, you will arrive at another chessboard. From there, head north, and a boss fight will begin.
Defeat Samael, Golden Gladiator

Samael can perform overhead slams, sword slashes, and slam attacks using its right hand. It can also execute a jumping slam attack, although this move does not involve either the weapon or the right hand. Instead, it is simply a straightforward slam attack. Also note that this boss shares several attacks and movement patterns with the previous version you fought earlier in the game.
It can launch its right hand toward you as an attack. This move can be used at both close and long range. Samael can also perform this attack up to three times consecutively. Another thing worth noting is Samael’s spinning attack, which contains two separate hitboxes. There are also several attacks that are very similar to the previous version of the boss, which makes this encounter much easier to learn.

Do note that there are also some new ranged attacks. One of them involves launching carts at you, while another consists of a ranged slash attack.
Once Samael has been defeated, the path ahead will unlock. Use the chessboard first to spend any feathers you have collected and then proceed through the red door. As you continue upward, several enemies will appear, and you will need to defeat them. Continue clearing the enemies as they appear, and eventually, a cutscene will begin. Once the cutscene ends, you will immediately find yourself facing another boss.
Defeat Ophanim, The Other King

Ophanim attacks primarily with its card-like arms. It can perform cross slashes as well as individual slashes from each arm, usually accompanied by follow-ups. Most of the time, it attacks with its right arm, and the combo generally consists of two hits. As you reduce Ophanim’s health, its moveset will gradually expand.
Phase Two
The two cards positioned on its left and right sides can begin firing laser attacks. When this happens, it is often best to stay either toward the northern or southern side of the arena while moving closer to or farther away from the boss depending on the attack pattern. Similar to Samael, this boss can also launch ranged slash projectiles. If the attack is charged for a moment, it can turn into a consecutive multi-slash attack.
The cards positioned around the arena can also fire orbs toward you. Additional cards may appear in front of you and perform the exact same attack. Also note that a card can appear directly in front of Ophanim and fire a purple laser toward your position. While this laser remains active, the boss can continue attacking with its other abilities.

Another attack that Ophanim can perform is a dual rolling strike. This attack emerges from below and can catch you off guard if you are not expecting it.
Do note that whenever the boss takes a step backward while you are standing close, it will often follow up with a slam attack from its right hand and then immediately transition into an overhead slash. Ophanim can also launch smaller projectile attacks at you, so creating some distance is usually the safest option whenever this happens.
Defeat the boss and, once you do, a cutscene will begin. When the cutscene ends, you will have lost all of your magical powers and will be teleported to another area.
Medhelan – Stone Arches

Follow the path ahead, use the chessboard to level up, and continue forward. You will notice several large enemies nearby. Ignore them, take a right, take another right, and then head left. Continue ahead, and you will eventually find the path blocked. Head right, go up the stairs, and defeat the enemies there to unlock the way forward. Once the path is open, continue climbing the stairs and proceed onward.
Head left, follow the path, drop down from the left side, and destroy the key enemy. Doing so will open the path on the left side. Now head north, climb the stairs, follow the path ahead, and defeat the enemy blocking your progress. This will unlock a shortcut leading back to the first chessboard in the area.
You do not actually need to go back down, but if you choose to, you can return by using the elevator. Once you are ready, head back and enter the building through the left side. Doing so will trigger another boss fight.
Defeat Ye

Ye can feel a little overwhelming at first, but the good thing is that most of its attacks are clearly telegraphed. It can perform poke attacks, sword slashes, ranged attacks, overhead slams, and projectile attacks even while standing at close range. Ye can also fire a laser toward you. Unlike many other bosses, Ye does not rely heavily on long combo chains. Instead, it tends to perform individual attacks very rapidly.
The combo you should pay the most attention to is the slash attack that also launches projectiles. Ye can perform this attack even at close range and, after firing the third projectile, it can immediately follow up with a standard sword slash.
Another combo begins with a projectile slash attack before Ye instantly closes the distance and performs a regular melee slash. The final combo we encountered during our fight was a spinning slash that contains two hitboxes and is then followed by a plunge attack.
Defeat the boss and the path ahead will open. Once it does, continue forward, and you will find a chessboard waiting ahead. You can transform into Ye, who is basically The Queen. In this form, you will be able to deal tremendous amounts of damage, but your health bar will be very small. From the chessboard, head left, climb the stairs, and another boss fight will begin.
Defeat The Behemoth

As the fight begins, you will return to your normal character. By now, you should be very familiar with Behemoth’s moveset since this boss has helped you numerous times throughout previous sections of the game. However, if you are not, there is no need to worry because this is not an overly complicated boss fight.
Whenever the boss moves away from you, it will usually either launch a ranged orb attack or rush toward you with a slam attack. If you see the boss descending into the ground and notice wings appearing, it means Behemoth is about to emerge from beneath you. It is generally better to dodge this attack rather than attempting to parry it.
Behemoth can perform a double bite attack with its mouth and can also strike with its claws. It is capable of performing a reverse cross slash as well as several other melee attacks. One combo you should be particularly aware of starts with the left claw, follows with the right claw, and then immediately transitions into a tail attack.
Note
We recommend fighting Behemoth as The Pawn first. Once its health drops to around 40%, switch to The Queen. Try to transform when The Pawn’s HP is low, and you have no healing items left. Then, use The Queen’s overwhelming offensive power to finish off the remaining health of Behemoth. Be careful not to get hit, as you likely won’t survive more than one attack.

When Behemoth begins screaming, the creature that was once with Derasin will appear. However, it mostly uses ranged attacks.
Do note that Behemoth can rush toward you with its left claw and then leap forward to attack with the same claw a second time. It can also perform a rolling tail attack. Continue attacking the boss, learn the timing of its attacks, and eventually you will bring it down.
Once you have defeated Behemoth, the path ahead will unlock. Continue forward and, with that, the Empyrean Abbey area concludes in Stonemachia.
