Welcome to the Into Indie Games walkthrough of Scarlet Stronghold, the fifth area in Stonemachia.
Stonemachia is a Soulslike game with a brilliant concept that puts The Pawn in the role of the main character. Your objective is to ascend to Heaven while fighting against angels along the way. For more information, check out its Steam page.
The areas feature plenty of bosses, but you can progress through the game by defeating only the main ones. In this guide, we will do our best to include the optional bosses as well in our Scarlet Stronghold walkthrough for Stonemachia, allowing you to experience every boss fight the area has to offer.

Stonemachia – Scarlet Stronghold Walkthrough

As you head into the Scarlet Stronghold, proceed forward, and a cutscene will commence. Once the cutscene ends, you will have a short conversation with an NPC. After that, move ahead, defeat the enemies, and follow the path to the left, as the routes on the right and to the north will be locked.
Make sure to fight the enemies separately because if all three of them attack at once, it can become a difficult battle to win. Then follow the path to the left, defeat the enemy, and continue forward. Eventually, the path will become locked. That is when you will notice a mini-boss approaching from the left side while destroying the pillars in its way.
Defeat The Mini Boss

This mini-boss has three legs, so its moveset can feel a little unusual. Most of the time, it will perform a rotating kick slam. That attack is easy to parry, but if you miss the parry, the follow-up attack comes out very quickly, so stay alert. The mini-boss can also perform separate kick attacks, so keep that in mind as well.
Once you have defeated this enemy, the path will unlock, so proceed through it. After dropping down, move ahead, head right, and pick up the Giant Feather. Once you have collected it, the path ahead will unlock, and the same enemy you just defeated will appear again, except there will be three of them this time.
Escape The Three-Legged Enemies

Fighting them can be difficult, so immediately run to the opposite side and keep moving. You can also head left inside the room to find a vinyl. Keep following the path to the left, continue through the small passage, and you will eventually escape the enemies.
Ahead will be a chessboard. From there, head north, defeat the enemies, and then go left. This enemy will have a creature with it that can be used as a weapon. When the creature is being used as a weapon, it is better to dodge because parrying will not do much here. When the creature disappears, that is when you should attack the enemy.

Do note that the creature can still attack you from the ground. Defeat the enemy, head up the stairs, and then ride the elevator upward. Once you are at the top, follow the path ahead while defeating the enemies, and then head down the stairs.
Along with the other enemies, there is going to be a key enemy here. Defeat everyone, and the path will be unlocked.
Go Through The Unlocked Path
Head through the path you just unlocked, and you will notice that this is the starting area and that you have unlocked the route on the right side. So, head back to the chessboard to use your feathers and then return to where you came from.
Now, while facing the stairs, head to the left, move forward, and you will have a short conversation with the same NPC you spoke to at the beginning. Then continue onward, and there will be another chessboard. The path to the north will be locked, so head right for a boss fight.
Defeat Wooden Cat

The first major boss of this area that you are going to face is the Wooden Cat, and it is perhaps the hardest boss so far. The fight usually starts with a ranged attack from the Wooden Cat, and then it follows up with sword strikes. The boss has several slash attacks as well as powerful slam attacks.
Note
If you’re having a hard time defeating the Wooden Cat boss, it’s best to head back to the main hub and unlock some armor upgrades. The cards you’ve collected so far can be used to unlock special armor sets. That said, the best armor for this fight is The Bishop. It’s fast and deals a significant amount of damage. There’s also an armor upgrade you can unlock for around 14 cards, so make sure to get it, as it will make the fight much easier.
It can perform a slash even while jumping, so keep that in mind. Wooden Cat also has some delayed poke attacks, so do not panic and keep your composure. If continuing to attack disrupts your rhythm for parrying the boss, then it is better to stop attacking when you think an attack is coming. This way, you will be able to focus more on timing your defense.
Also, note that the Wooden Cat can do the canon attack in the close range too nd it has a really weird hit box. It is better to dodge the first hit and then attack to avoid getting hit by the other two.
Unlock The Path Ahead

Once you have defeated the boss, the path ahead will unlock, so continue through it. On the north side, there will be an NPC that cannot be interacted with. Attack it to unlock the path ahead. There is also going to be an NPC resting on a bed, so talk to her. Then go through the small passage, destroy the key enemy, and the chest ahead of the bed will be unlocked.
Jump inside the chest and interact with the NPC ahead. Then go past the NPC, destroy the key enemy, and the path north of the chessboard will open. From there, move ahead, head down the stairs, and follow the path forward. Keep moving north and then take a right to obtain a Giant Feather.
After collecting the feather, head back to the starting location. Follow the path ahead again, and this time take the first left and keep moving forward. Continue heading north, and when you reach a point where the path splits into north, east, and west, head north for an item. When you return, a boss fight will begin.
Defeat Shell-hare

This boss starts the fight with projectiles and then follows them up with a rushing attack. This boss likes to create distance, but it is just as deadly at close range as it is from afar. It also has a combo where it attacks with both hands rapidly and then follows up with a leap before extending the combo even further.
Watch its hands carefully because at close range it can either perform slashes or quick plunging attacks. The boss likes to jump backward and then leap toward you to perform a plunge combo. It can also perform a twin slash, where it closes its hands and then opens them for a dual slash sequence.
Head Back After Defeating The Boss

Once you have defeated the boss, head back the way you came while defeating the enemies along the route. Enter the building, head up the elevator, follow the path, and reach the chessboard. Level up and then head left. Defeat the enemies, pick up the Giant Feather, and then follow the path to the left.
Destroy the key enemy, move ahead, climb the stairs, and you will find a chessboard. Then keep moving forward and, as you do, you will be attacked. Run back, and if the hands are getting close to you, jump and roll to create some distance.
Head back to the chessboard, then return and take a left. As you proceed, a cutscene will commence, so once it ends, move forward and prepare to face the boss.
Defeat Cherubim, The Wings Reaper

Derasin was already fighting this boss. Attack her altar to summon her and then begin the fight. This boss has very wide swings that can be parried quite easily. It can also mix in a poke attack, which can either be dodged or parried, although for the latter, you will need to be standing a little farther away from the boss.
Do note that most of the follow-up attacks from this boss are going to be fast. If it performs a slash, the next slash is likely to come out quickly, or it may instead transition into a poke attack.

The boss can also move backward and charge up an attack that may seem heavily delayed. However, the strike comes out very quickly and can be difficult to react to, so it is better to anticipate it in advance. The boss also has several slam attacks that deal a lot of damage. Either dodge away from them or keep a close eye on the boss while fighting at close range.
Second Phase

As you reduce the boss’s health, it will transition into phase two and begin using a spinning slash attack that deals significant damage. So, if you are not comfortable parrying it, simply dodge away. Another thing worth mentioning is that in phase two, the moveset changes a bit.
Some attacks remain the same, but there are some that are very weird. It will have a dual slash and separate slashes. Along with that, the boss seems to lie on the ground and move around, which has a hitbox. In this phase, the real boss is the camera angel so it gets a little to see what’s going on.
So, if you don’t feel comfortable, it would be better to defeat Cherubim in the second phase without locking on, defeat the boss, and afterward you will arrive in a new area. With that, the walkthrough of Scarlet Stronghold in Stonemachia comes to an end.
