Tavern Keeper Walkthrough – Getting your Second Star

The second scenario in Tavern Keeper, The Harvest Festival, is where things start to feel like you’re running a real tavern. By now, you already know how to build a basic setup — but the real challenge lies in leveling up your reputation to that second star and keeping everything under control once business starts booming.

Here’s a step-by-step guide focused entirely on getting that 2-star rating efficiently (and surviving the chaos that comes with it).

1. Start With a Clean Setup

Before chasing stars, build your foundation:

  • 1 Tap
  • 1 Table
  • 1 Employee (Server)
  • A few barrels of local liquor

Keep your Taproom small and cozy to control traffic early on. Once you’ve earned some gold, expand gradually instead of overcommitting too fast.

2. Place the Welcome Basket Early

Not long after opening, a Halfling will gift you a Welcome Basket. This decorative item boosts patron happiness — especially when placed near high-traffic areas.

Tip: Place it on a table near the entrance so nearly everyone sees it as they walk in. Happy patrons = faster star progress.

3. Earn Your First Star Rating

Hover over your tavern’s star bar to see the specific goals required for your first star. Usually, this means:

  • Serving a certain number of drinks
  • Earning enough gold
  • Reaching a baseline level of customer satisfaction

Once you’ve hit the checklist, you’ll get your first star and unlock more complex mechanics. Congrats — but the real work starts now.

4. Experiment With the Patron Attraction Board

Before gunning for two stars, get familiar with the Patron Attraction Board. It lets you preview and schedule incoming groups, giving you control over crowd flow.

  • Use gold to “peek” further into the future.
  • Time your invited groups around quieter periods.

This tool becomes essential once your tavern fills up — you’ll use it constantly to balance service and profit.

5. Expanding Toward the Second Star

Now it’s time to chase that 2-star rating — but carefully.

The star requirements ramp up fast: more customers, more expectations, and way more chaos. Here’s what you’ll need to do:

Staffing Goals

By the time you hit two stars, aim for at least:

  • 3 Servers (keep those tables rotating)
  • 2 Janitors (mess piles up quickly)
  • 2 Dogsbodies (for supply runs and maintenance)
  • 1 Chef (add a second later if meals start backing up)

Service Expansion

You’ll likely need to expand your Taproom and add more tables, taps, and counters to keep up with growing demand.

Keep an eye on your staff’s workload — overworked employees tank your reputation fast.

6. Save Gold Before Accepting the Star

Here’s the part many players miss:
Don’t accept your second star immediately once you qualify.

When you hit the requirement, hold off and save at least 400 gold first. You’ll need this for Firefighting Gear and extra supplies — the next story event involves a fire, and being unprepared can cost you far more than that.

7. Fire Safety Comes First

Before triggering the next event, build Firefighting Gears around your tavern. Spread them out — fires can cut off access routes fast.

Then, stock Extinguisher Barrels in your Storeroom to refill them. Once everything’s in place, you’re ready for the next part of the story.

8. Handle the Fire Story Event

When you interact with your Tap and trigger the story event, things will get heated — literally.

Here’s how to handle it:

  • Wits option (“Smother the fire”) → Reduces how large the fire starts.
  • Dexterity option (“Throw something at the cloaked figure”) → Better chance to catch the culprit and earn bonus gold.

Afterward, your staff will handle the flames automatically. If you chose to chase the arsonist, you’ll likely receive a small payout afterward.

Once the fire’s out, interact with the Tap again to officially end this mini quest.

9. Managing a Growing Crowd

Now that your tavern has survived its first real crisis, you’ll notice business ramping up dramatically. This is the point where many players struggle to maintain service quality.

A few quick tricks:

  • Hire an Entertainer – boosts customer patience and staff morale.
  • Expand kitchen capacity – add a second food window if meals are backing up.
  • Stay stocked on liquor – running out during rush hours hurts your rating more than you’d expect.

10. Securing That 2-Star Rating

Once your tavern is stable, happy, and fully staffed, the second star should come naturally.

Make sure you’ve nailed these:

  • Consistent service speed
  • Clean environment
  • Happy patrons (decor + entertainment help a ton)
  • Balanced finances (avoid debt from over-hiring too soon)

When the checklist for the second star is complete, accept it proudly — your tavern has officially become one of Halflington’s best.

What’s Next?

After earning your 2-star rating, you’ll be well-prepared for the upcoming Harvest Festival and all the story-driven challenges that follow.
