This complete walkthrough will guide you through everything from your first humble alehouse to mastering complex layouts, managing guests, and keeping your reputation high. In this part we get the first Star rating.

After you select New Game and click on Start to start the “The New Owner”. It is suggested not to start Freeplay right now. You can choose your starting location – Riverbottom, a swamp, Gugamush, a desert or Halflington, a green forest type biome in freeplay. But in story mode, its always Riverbottom. Check your preferred setting and lets get on with it.

The New Owner
Learn how to use Tooltips first and the camera controls second. Then clear the wreckage in Demolish Mode off the floor. Next, build a room by building flooring. Build a door as well.

Once the taproom is ready, place a tap (rotate it first for tutorial purposes) and a bar counter.

Next up pick a person to help tend the bar.

Check their skill levels, quirks, and their daily wages. You want a middle ground. After hiring the help, wait for the Merchant to arrive at the dock. Buy drinks off him.

Click on the tap and load the barrel you like. Wait for the staff to put it on tap.

Once the tap is loaded you can place a table and then go into design mode.

Next, save the game and go through the gag bit and reload the save. The last thing the narrator tells you about is stories – which are this games version of quests.

You also learn about the time bending mechanics and cause and effect loop of the game. You can see that there are dialogue choices that are unique to your own skills and their ratings.

In this case, Wits has the highest chance of success. Watch the roll happen and if you succeed you will see more of the dialogue. Next pick you Skills.

Click the lock on top and open the tavern. Now wait for a patron to show and for your staff to tend to them. You can speed it up if you want.

You can also spend time in the design mode while waiting for the customers to make your tavern uniquely yours. As patrons leave they will give you a percentage rating – try to keep this as high as possible by stocking varieties of alcohol and serving them with speed. As night falls, you should build a staff room and build a bed for your hard working staff.

You can also build a store room to store the barrels.

Anyway let your staff sleep the night out. During the night you can unlock Storage Overview and Tavern Rating. Also, you can check out the Loan system if you ever go in negative gold.

Always make sure you leave enough payment for salaries due at the end of the day.
Next build enough pallets to store all the drinks you have purchased.

So in my playthrough, Dorothy Chaddius appeared with a storybook.

Clicking on her starts the story “Innocent Until Proven Guild-y”. Play through the dialogue choices to progress the story.

Playing through will basically give you a quest to get a 1-Star Rating for the tavern. Also, you will now have an advisor and have unlocked the world map. Check the Tavern Rating to see the requirements to get a Half Star rating.

And the requirement for 1 1-star Drink Rating from the Drink Flag banner and the adjacent banner to check the requirement for the Services 1 star. Build two taps and put them both on the menu.

If you start to get swamped, I suggest hiring another staff member. If you build an Outhouse, you will receive 3 unlocks for your tavern – decorative pieces. This should get your taproom to 1 star. Keep serving patrons till you reach 10 drinks served and this should get you your 1 star rating for your drinks. It will also unlock the Tavern Menu – where you can serve food. Now we need to build either the Dartboard or the Waiting Bench.

Build the bulletin board on any of the walls.

Lastly you need to wait for 15 Patron visits.

Once you gain the star, a patron called Jefferson Applebutter will show up.

This will start the story “15 Minutes of Fame”.
15 Minutes of Fame
Answer all his questions and he will leave and this complete the story.
Click on the 1-Star award and you will have the award. This will unlock 6 more items and also complete the story “Stargazer”.
This concludes this part of the walk through for Tavern Keeper.
