Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss Walkthrough – Garden Deck and Knife

Welcome to the Into Indie Games walkthrough for Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss.

Main Deck

From the main hall, go up the stairs that were formerly blocked, and go left to the starboard-side railing.

From there, go through the two open doors to find yourself on a crumbling deck. Here, interact with the area around the metal beam to start moving towards the stairs going to the upper deck.

Once you’re up on the Garden Deck, the only way to go is up the stairs to the Sun Deck, so go there.

Sun Deck

Go through the open door to reach the Bridge.

Clues in the Bridge

• Captain log (logbook on a shelf to the right, as you enter the bridge)
• Captain maps (map spread out on two tables, at the center of the bridge)
• Returned cheque (ringbinder on a shelf near the port-side exit)

You can now solve a mystery.

Mystery: Sitting Ducks

What was the threat?: Sudden stormfront
Cause of vulnerability: Engine tampering
“Sitting ducks” meaning: Captain maps

Now leave the Bridge through the port-side door. Go down the stairs now to get back to the Garden Deck.

Garden Deck

Proceed forward up to the lifeboat and take a left into the garden.

In the memory, go right to find Alex. When she sits, interact with her to sit beside her.

Afterwards, you’re free to explore the garden in the present.

Clues in the Garden (Aft-side)

• Secret recording 1a (wax roll lying in a mound of dirt, near a shovel)

Now go to the fore-side of the garden.

Clues in the Garden (Fore-side)

• Braided tree (colorful band tied around a tree in the center of the area)

Now keep going in the direction of the Bridge, to find the Captain’s Quarters, which are directly underneath the Bridge.

Open the door and enter. Proceed through the corridor into Hans’ cabin proper.

Clues in the Captain’s Cabin

• Stuffed elephant (lying on a red armchair)
• Two coffee cups (lying on a tray on a table)
• Hans and Charis (old photo floating above a cabinet just off the bunk)

You can now solve some mysteries.

Mystery: Something Wrong With Hans II 2

What tied them together?: Returned cheque
Proof of connection: Hans and Charis
Proof of connection: Stuffed elephant

Mystery: Hidden Compartment

Identifying document: Returned cheque
Who was she stalking: Hans
Alex’s motivation: Alex’s father

Solving these mysteries reveal new clues in the Captain’s cabin.

Clues in the Captain’s Cabin (2)

• Hans’ journal (journal on a shelf near the window)
• Alex’s notebook (journal on a fallen shelf in the corridor just outside Hans’ cabin)

Before leaving the cabin, be sure to pick up Alex’s knife from the writing table next to one of the portholes.

This knife gives you access to several new areas on the Thalassa.

For now, return to the garden and go to the aft side to find a door to the Garden Shed.

Open this door and enter.

Clues in the Garden Shed

• Kaymar interview 2 (wax roll on a shelf to the right)

After this, open the door at the other end of the Garden Shed to end up on the deck again.

This way leads to Isabel’s apartment, but we can’t access it without a special code, so ignore that for now.

Explore both sides of the deck if you’re going for the Nautical Nomad achievement.

Then, when you’re ready to continue, return to the Bridge by passing through the garden and going up the stairs to the Sun Deck.

Sun Deck

Clues in the Bridge (2)

• Engineer message (pipe messaging system near the port-side door)
• Helmsman journal (green journal in a box, near the starboard-side door)

You can progress in a mystery now.

Mystery: Close Call

Evidence of turning point: Engineer message
Who helped?: Kaymar
Evidence of escape: Helmsman journal
Who helped?: Hans

Now backtrack all the way to the Main Hall, going through the same broken starboard path as before.

Main Deck

Return to the main hall, down the stairs.

Clues in the Main Hall (2)

• Ship cross section (“The Heart of SS Thalassa” diagram on the wall, near the door to Isabel’s office)

It’s time for another mystery.

Mystery: Quick Fix

Boiler details: Ship cross section
That book we found: Engineering 101
Who found the issue: Thomas

Now we need to find the code for Isabel’s apartment in her office. Head over to Isabel’s office.

Clues in Isabel’s Office (3)

• Front door code (drawer of office desk)

Before moving on, though, let’s use the knife in one more location. Head to the Galley.

Enter the Maintenance area and interact with the Storage B door.

Clues in Storage B

• Laundry (hanging to the left as you enter Storage B)
• Woodworking Table (to the right as you enter Storage B)
• Adélina settling in (automatically obtained with woodworking table)
• Adélina studies (pile of books lying near mattress)
• Erik interview 2 (wax roll lying on a makeshift table to the right)

Now before we get back to Isabel’s apartment, let’s solve a mystery that we missed previously.

Mystery: Jessie’s missing recordings

What was the motive?: Exposé material
Relationship with Jessie: Maria dislikes Jessie

Now return all the way up to the Garden Shed, through the Garden, which you will access by going through the Bridge, and the broken starboard path.
