Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss Walkthrough – The Bolt Cutters

Officer’s Deck Corridors

From the deck, proceed through the open door and take a right to find some bolt cutters lying on a crate.

As you might guess, these bolt cutters unlock a few previously inaccessible areas for us. Pick up the bolt cutters.

From the bolt cutters, take a right and proceed through the open door by the shelves.

Clues in Stern-side Officer’s Deck Corridor

• Signs of woodworking (half-finished wooden sculpture on a crate)
• Tin snips (lying near the crate)
• Drawings on pipe (pipes down the open hatch)

With these observations done, you can now progress in a mystery.

Mystery: Late Night Wanderer II

Signs of mischief: Discarded cans
Signs of activity: Tip snips
Signs of activity: Tool set

From here, make your way back to where you found the bolt cutters and this time, pass through the open door at the end of the corridor.

You’re now back at the hub, but on an upper deck. Go down the stairs and interact with the chains to use your bolt cutters on them.

This unlocks a shortcut for you, but before going down, go up the stairs on the other side.

Clues in Starboard-side Officer’s Deck Corridor

• Apartment photo (photo floating just off the railing, near the stairs)
• Thomas interview 2 (wax roll lying on the floor, near the open door)

You can now proceed in another mystery.

Mystery: The Engine III 1

Explanation of events: Thomas interview 2

If you go through the open door, you’ll find another open door leading to the starboard side of the deck. However, you will be artificially blocked.

So instead, it’s time to return to some previously-explored areas and put those bolt cutters to use.

Go down the stairs to return to the hub now.

Main Deck

Your crucial area now is to go back to Isabel’s Office. Go there.

Clues in Isabel’s Office

• Crumpled schematics (on top of a chest of drawers, to the right of the desk)
• Stock reports (ringbinder in a glass cabinet, near the exit towards the Mess Hall)

You can now solve a mystery.

Mystery: The Engine III 2

Evidence of events: Crumpled schematics
Evidence from worksite: Stylish pipe
Identifying culprit: Thomas apprentice

This opens up some new clues in Thomas’ Cabin. Before that, though, make your way to the Galley.

Remember the key we found in Kadri’s cabin? We can use it now. In the galley, interact with the Pantry door to open it with the key you found.

Clues in the Pantry

• Broken lock (lying on floor next to a crate of potatoes)
• Makeshift camp (candles and blanket in the ventilation area, at the other end of the pantry)
• Cluttered ventilation (received automatically with Makeshift camp)
• Food scraps (cans and apple cores next to the candles)

You can now solve a couple of mysteries.

Mystery: A cluttered ventilation room

Suspicious activity: Broken lock
Abnormal activity: Makeshift camp
Abnormal activity: Food scraps

Mystery: The Stowaway

Evidence of advantage: Aiding stowaway

Mystery: The Stowaway 2

Evidence of activity: Signs of woodworking
Signs of identity: Girl figurine
Signs of identity: Drawings on pipe

With our business in the Pantry concluded, let’s make our way back to Thomas Cabin, but through a new path.

First, go to the Mess Hall. In the mess hall, approach the gate that is closed by a chain. Use your bolt cutters to open the way.

Clues in Stern-side Mess Hall

• Stained jacket (jacket to the left as you enter this area of the mess hall)
• Isabel interview 2 (wax roll on bookshelf, opposite the stairs going up)
• Maria Diary 2 (thin book on bookshelf, above the wax roll)

You can now progress in several mysteries.

At this point, you will be informed that you need to take the outside path along the starboard deck.
