Welcome to our walkthrough for The Alters: Last Variable, the new dlc for last year’s amazing game.
In this part of the walkthrough, you’ll continue expanding your base while introducing the Physicist Alter and progressing several key research projects. Your main objective is to gather the resources needed to build the SAM, perform its preliminary analysis, and use the results to unlock new objectives, including Chasing Anomalies and Advanced Infrastructure. Along the way, you’ll establish a Research Station, investigate anomalies to collect valuable samples, begin researching Phased Rapidium and Identity Replication, and assist the Physicist with his personal quest. By the end of this section, you’ll be producing essential new equipment, including the Extractor, Cathy’s Modulator, and a Phaser, setting your colony up for the challenges ahead.

Day 4
Awake the Physicist and have a chat with him. Set him to work on the workshop or anywhere you need help in. Speak to the Geologist as well. You should be running low on storage space as well, so build couple of storage tanks. Spend the day collecting resources that you need to build the SAM.
Day 5
Get SAM Results
You need 60 Metals, 50 Rapidium and 60 Organics to build the SAM. If you have enough by now, build it.
Go to the SAM and select Preliminary Analysis. It will take about 8 hours. Head back to the Metals Outpost. Connect the Rapidium Outpost in the Oasis to the base. Mine Rapidium for the day. Go back to the base once the analysis is complete. Speak to the Geologist and he will give you the new task “Chasing Anomalies”. If you now check on the completed analysis you will find you have received a bonus to Rapidium mining.
Analyze the results on the Whiteboard. Update the top left corner.
Discuss the results with Janbot now. You can choose the next priority, I chose to discover more samples. This will complete the task and get you the new task “Advanced Infrastructure.” For this you need to research Phased Rapidium.
Chasing Anomalies
Meanwhile you can also start building a “Research Station” at the workshop for the task “Chasing Anomalies”.
I would suggest starting Phased Rapidium research as well.
You should talk to the Physicist as well and he will give you the new task “In Need of Assistance”.
In Need of Assistance
For this you need to analyze the Physicist’s life in the QC. Open your research tab and under Theory start researching “Idenity Replication”.
End the day soon after.
Day 6
Chasing Anomalies (Contd)
Head to the workshop and work on the Research Station. Find the Geologist and give him the Research Station. Open the map and check the location of the Anomaly marked on the map.
Walk into the anomaly and pick up the sample. Your research for Phased Rapidium should conclude right about now. Meanwhile assign an Alter to the Research Lab to continue researching Cathy’s identity. Head back to the base and speak to the Geologist. He will need some time now. Go to the workshop and set up production on an Extractor.
Check which resources you are low on and collect them for a while.
In need of Assistance (continued)
Meanwhile, Cathy’s identity research should be complete. So, queue up production on Cathy’s modulator.
You should also queue up a Phaser as well. You can go back to base and work in the workshop completing these tasks for a bit before ending the day.
