Welcome to our walkthrough for The Alters: Last Variable, the new dlc for last year’s amazing game.
In this part of the walkthrough, you’ll juggle several important story quests while upgrading your base to handle the growing challenges ahead. You’ll help the Geologist continue his anomaly research by collecting rare Prism and Time Dilation samples, while also resolving the Physicist’s troubled relationship with Cathy by completing his personal quest. Along the way, you’ll construct essential infrastructure such as the Phaser, Extractor, pipelines, an Infirmary, and a Phased Rapidium Tank, allowing you to begin producing Phased Rapidium. As the chapter comes to a close, you’ll unlock The Great Gardener quest by setting up the new extraction network and begin researching Terraforming, all while preparing your colony for an incoming Magnetic Storm.

Day 7
Chasing Anomalies
Start the day by speaking to the Geologist. If you agree to let him keep working on the project, he will need more time.
In need of assistance
Go to the workshop and complete the work on Cathy’s Modulator. Next install the modulator in the comms room. Next talk to Cathy. Speaking to her will result in you needing to get the Physicist to talk to Cathy. Let him know this and he will tell you he needs more time to get ready to talk to Cathy. Next up, complete building the Phaser, Extractor and 20 Pipeline packages. You should build the Phased Rapidium Tank if you have the 60 Metals required. If not, wait till its been collected or go out and collect it.

Cook some mush to ensure there’s enough food on board. While doing these, chances are that the Geologist will be ready to talk. Go find him. He will now want a Prism Anomaly. If you have time left on the clock, you can go for it. Otherwise head to bed and end the day.
Day 8
In need of assistance (Contd)
The Physicist should be ready to talk now. Speaking to him will tell you that Cathy is apparently malfunctioning. Go speak to her yourself. Cathy was essentially abused by the Physicist and is unable to respond to him normally. You now need to explain to the Physicist on how to talk to Cathy. He will be really difficult to reason with, so that will eventually lead him to take more time to think things through. He will eventually leave the base. If morale is deteriorating, you could look into building mood-boosting rooms such as a Social Room or Gamer’s Den. Next, head out to the Metals Outpost. Check the location of the Prism Anomaly on the map.
But its time to look for the Physicist first. He is in the Rocky Valley. There is a cave on the left of the Metals Outpost. He is inside the cave.
Bring him back to the base, and if you haven’t built the Infirmary, do so now. I didn’t have the 60 Minerals required, so I went out and got them. Next, get to the Prism Anomaly and bring back the sample for the geologist. Speak to the Geologist. He will once again need more time. Meanwhile, wait for the Physicist to get better. End the day when ready.
Day 9
Advanced Infrastructure
Place the Phaser on top of any of the geysers. The upper one is good because it runs closer to the Rapidium Outpost.
Next, place the Extractor on the Rapidium site in the Oasis.
Now connect this with the Phaser using the pipelines. It works similarly to pylons. Finally, connect a pipeline from the Phaser to the Phased Rapidium tank near the base. This will unlock the new task “The Great Gardener”. For this, you need to research Terraformation which requires 50 Phase Rapidium. For now you should be out of time, so hit the bed.
Day 10
This day starts with the warning that a Magnetic Storm will hit in a day. Stock up on repair kits and Radiation filters.

Go speak to the Geologist. He will want to give up again. Push him to conclude the research and he will now want a sample from the Time Anomaly.
In need of Assistance (contd)
The Physicist should be better now, go speak to him. Push him to speak to Cathy and eventually you will have to wait for him to go talk to Cathy.

Head back out and get to the Time Dilation sample marked on your map. Get the sample for the Geologist. Get back to the base and speak to him.
The Great Gardener
Once you have 50 Phased Rapidium, research the terraformer.
You should be out of time so end the day.
