In this part of the walkthrough we confront Dr. Roth about his plans.

Chapter 8: A Lesson in History
After a brief conversation between Hara, Annie and you. The plan is clear. They are going to go find the cartridge to take of Roth and you have to go down to the reactor to see if you can get Klein to help.
What do I do in the reactor?
Speak to Klein about how to stop the reactor from blowing up.
You now need to go find Roth and confront about the passcode. Check the lift to find that it’s not working. Speak to Klein again. He will give you a way out. Take it up to the labs.
How do I get into the lab?
The facilities are deteriorating due to reactor overloading. Water and electricity are everywhere. And you are stuck on this side of the lab. Hara will show up. Talk to him. He can’t access the lab, so you need to circle around but the water is stopping your way. Check the panel in the corner.
Use the screwdriver from your inventory to open the panel and use the knife to cut the wires.
Go around to the other side. Talk to Hara but he is blocked off by the fire. Go inside the Accelerator Lab. On the left, near the accelerator housing is a red fire extinguisher. Pick it up.
Head back out to Hara. Use the fire extinguisher on the flame. Hara will throw you the cartridge and his gun – you grab them avoiding not to shoot your foot off.
What do I do with the cartridge?
Go into the Accelerator Lab and walk right to the Interface Lab. Insert the cartridge in the center console of the Quantum Coupler.
Roth will show up.
How do I deal with Roth?
Speak to Roth to judge the situation. After the first conversation, Roth will insist you want the same thing as he does and he will ask you to take the chair for the phase-flip. He says the decision to go back in time is up to you, so you can either agree (use the seat twice, and then the visor), or you can try to refuse.
(Both are valid options. If you choose to cooperate with Roth you will be transported a moment in the past. At the beginning of Chapter 4, you met Sarah after a long absence. This is the moment where you need to cause that long absence.)
But I chose to refuse. You do this by talking to him more and finally using Hara’s gun on Roth. You will have to use it multiple times.
A flashback sequence will trigger and the realization that Alec’s life mattered will dawn on you. Roth doesn’t see it that way – and he breaks your neck. You can only use your mouth and your eyes.
Talk to Roth two more times and watch what he is typing on the screen. You will be able to see Ross’ passcode – which essentially translates to Desert Pea. Interesting, since Maxwell kept referring to his imaginary friends as Desert Pea.
Use that information to anger Roth enough to kill you. Once he does and you phase-flip. You are back in the moment where Roth transforms. Shooting him won’t help. So use the gun on yourself.
What do I go back further in time?
You will be back at the Accelerator, right before you took the fire extinguisher. You need to go get back further in time to the point where you were at the reactor so you can give Klein the password. Open the accelerator door.
After that horrible death you are now back at the point where you dealt with the water and the electricity. Need to go back further. Well, the answer is electricity but how do you reconnect the wires. Use the hangar from your inventory.
Walk into the live electric puddle. Now you are back at the reactor right before the bridge collapsed. Yell at the edge of the screen.
Jump into the rubble underneath. Gruesome. Now you are back with Klein. Talk to him and give him the passcode. Roth has a workaround and will still blow the reactor. Head back up. You need to delay Roth so the others can escape.
How do I delay Roth?
You have solved this section before, so repeat what you did exactly to solve it again. Once you are back in the lab with Roth – You need to play along, and not alert Roth to the fact something is different. Talk to Roth, then use the bed.
Klein will come through and Roth has to trigger the reactor manually. This is your chance to insert the cartridge.
Get back into bed so Roth doesn’t notice anything has changed. Watch the cutscene play out.
How do I escape?
Swim upwards, or atleast try to. Check your inventory for a knife and cut the tentacle.
Frantically swim to the right till you see the access shaft.
Interact with it. This will end Chapter 8.
