The Gardens Between – Complete Walkthrough – Part 1 (Sections 1, 2, 3, and 4)

 

Stuck in The Gardens Between? Figure out how to manipulate time just right with our two-part walkthrough guide. This part covers the first half of the game.

This part of the walkthrough covers the first 4 ‘sections’ of The Gardens Between. Each section is broken up into 2 or 3 levels. The game does not name its levels, but this walkthrough goes from the first level represented by the stone pedestal, up to the level represented by the treehouse. Note that this is not an achievement-oriented guide. The Gardens Between 1-1 Pedestal Wakey, wakey, and welcome to The Gardens Between. Follow the on-screen directions to move forward in time, up until you can’t progress anymore. Then, reverse time as far back as it can go. The stone pedestal will be formed, and a light will light up the lantern. Now move forward in time until you reach the lantern. Use the interact button to pick up the lantern (when Arina is close enough to it). With the lantern in hand, step up to the pedestal and interact with it to complete the level. The Gardens Between 1-2 Open Door Go forward in time and Frendt will notice a bell hanging from a tree branch. Once Frendt is close enough to the bell, he can ring it. The flower to the left will bloom, revealing a glowing orb. Go back in time to the orb, until your lantern is lit. Now go forward again to enable the light bridge. Once you’re past the bridge, approach the next orb and have it light your lantern. Jump to the next flower, and the orb will be destroyed. Don’t worry, this is normal! Keep going forward until Frendt reaches the next bell. Ring the bell, and the dark flower will close. Go back to the glowing orb and light your lantern again. Then, take it all the way up to the pedestal to complete the level. The Gardens Between screenshotThe Gardens Between 2-1 Garden Hose Keep going forward in time. The Garden Friend (a delightful little cube) will burst out of the cooler and land near the path. Step up to it as Arina and place your lantern on it. With the lantern on the GF (Garden Friend), go back in time until the lantern is lit up by the glowing orb that is just above the cooler. Go forward in time, pick up the lit lantern, and enable the light bridge. Past the bridge, keep going forward until Arina can place the lantern on the GF again. Then keep going forward in time until Frendt reaches a bell. Ring the bell to close the dark flower. Around this time, the GF’s lantern will be lit by the light flower. Once you’re sure the GF’s lantern is lit and the dark flower is closed, go back in time to where Arina met the GF. Pick up the lit lantern and take it straight up to the pedestal to finish the level. The Gardens Between 2-2 Inflatable Pool Go forward, and your lantern will light up thanks to a light flower. If you keep going forward, it will also be destroyed by a dark flower. Keep going forward and you’ll meet up with the hopping GF. Put your lantern on it and reverse time so that the lantern is lit by the hanging light flower. Go forward in time again, meet the GF, pick up the lantern, and activate the light bridge to proceed. After the bridge, go forward and past the GF to light up the lantern. Don’t go any further, or the dark flower will destroy your light. Go back in time now to meet the GF and place the lantern on it. Now go forward and pick up the lantern right after you pass the dark flower. Go a little further and place the lantern on the GF. He will hop away from the dark flower, saving your light. Once you meet the GF at the top, pick up the lantern, hop over to where the pedestal is, and complete the level. The Gardens Between screenshotThe Gardens Between 3-1 Games Table Go forward in time until Arina is stuck and Frendt reaches the balloon bell. Ring it, and you will be able to manipulate a different, independent timeline. While focused on the Jenga blocks, go back in time until the tower is fully formed. Use the Interact button to return to the main timeline. This clears the way, so move forward, collect the glowing orb, and enable the light bridge to get across. When you reach the next balloon bell as Frendt, interact with it to enable the sub-timeline again. Go all the way forward, dropping the dominos and the Jenga tower, causing the light flower to fall down. Exit the sub-timeline, and go forward to pick up the glowing orb from the flower. Go back and stop at the hanging bell. Ring it to toggle the dark flowers, letting you take the lit lantern all the way back to the balloon bell. Now use the balloon bell to reverse the sub-timeline completely. Go forward again, ring the hanging bell to toggle the dark flowers, and continue forward to the pedestal, where you can complete the level. The Gardens Between 3-2 TV Keep going all the way forward until you hit a dead end next to a balloon bell. Use the balloon bell to enter the sub-timeline. Go all the way back in time to plug the TV cord into the electrical socket. Exit the sub-timeline. Go back to when Frendt presses the button on the VCR remote. Make sure you stop right when he presses the button. This way, Frendt will hold down the ‘rewind’ button on the VCR remote. Once the tape inside completely rewinds, the VCR will spit out the tape, letting you climb up onto the previously inaccessible ledge. Go forward, grab the glowing orb, cross the light bridge. Ignore the GF for now, and go straight for the balloon bell. Once in the sub-timeline, reverse time so that the ‘silly crow’ in the video game is black and the glowing orb is revealed. Exit the sub-timeline and go back in time to when you met the GF. Give it your lantern and go forward in time. The GF will enter the TV and light your lantern. Go back in time again and pick up the lantern. Now step right up to the pedestal to complete the level. The Gardens Between 3-3 Armchair Go forward, ignore the balloon bell, and give the GF your lantern. Now if you go forward, you’ll find a pillow falling onto the lamp, causing a light flower to drop. To catch the glowing orb, you need to position the GF just right. Go back to the balloon bell to enter the sub-timeline, and go forward in time so that the GF is positioned in front of the lamp’s black stand. Exit the sub-timeline, go forward in time to cause the light flower to drop, and if you positioned your GF correctly, your lantern should be lit. Return to the balloon bell, go back in time, exit the sub-timeline, and you will be able to pick up your lantern once more. Grab it, enable the light bridge, and cross over. Go forward until Frendt reaches the balloon bell. In the sub-timeline, go forward until the GF is positioned behind the upright broom, i.e. just over the hanging bell. Exit the sub-timeline and go forward in time. The pillow will drop, causing the popcorn bowl to fall, and the rug will slip off the broom. If you positioned the GF right, the rug will not fall over the hanging bell, which will allow Frendt to use the hanging bell. Go forward and use the hanging bell to cause the light flower to bloom. Go back in time to the balloon bell, and enter the sub-timeline. Reverse it, so that the GF sits in the purple slot near Arina. Exit the sub-timeline, go slightly back, and place the lantern on the GF. Go forward again to the balloon bell and enter the sub-timeline. Go forward so that the GF is positioned in front of the popcorn bowl. If you’ve positioned the GF right, then when you exit the sub-timeline and move forward, the lantern will be lit by the glowing orb. With the lantern lit, return to the purple slot near Arina, and exit the sub-timeline. Have Arina grab the lit lantern from the GF, and go all the way to the pedestal to complete the level. The Gardens Between screenshotThe Gardens Between 4-1 Construction Material Go forward, cross the cloud bridge, collect the glowing orb, and get past the clouds. Remember that light dispels the clouds. You will require a lit lantern (or a nearby light flower) to remove the floating clouds. However, this will also negate any nearby light bridges. Let the dark flower destroy your light. Keep going forward, until Arina jumps on the saw. Now keep going back and forth in time, so that Arina jumps on the saw repeatedly. Eventually, the wooden plank will be sawed through, and fall apart. Now Frendt can cross over to where Arina is. Have Frendt ring the hanging bell. With the lantern lit, get past the floating clouds up ahead, and then let your light be destroyed. Keep going forward until your light is lit again, and then go back to the hanging bell that is obscured by cloud. Have Frendt ring the bell, and that will close the light flower. Go back to the dark flower to destroy your light. With the light flower closed and your lantern un-lit, you can now cross the cloud bridge ahead. Once you’re past the cloud bridge, keep going forward, pick up the glowing orb, and head over to the pedestal to complete the level. The Gardens Between 4-2 Tire Swing Go forward and ring the hanging bell to make the flower bloom. You will notice a GF that is near the flower. It jumps off into a can of blue paint. Keep an eye on this specific GF. When Arina reaches the three GFs, place the lantern on the GF with the blue paint that was close to the flower before. It should be the first one from the right. Go all the way back in time until the lantern is lit. If you picked the wrong GF, try again. With the lantern lit, go forward in time again until Arina can retrieve the lantern. Use it to enable the light bridge and get across. Just after the light bridge, look to the lower-left part of your screen for the blooming flower. There’s a GF next to it, so like before, keep an eye on that GF. This one’s a little trickier, because he gets obscured by the rock, and appears in a gap in the middle. The correct GF should be the one with purple paint closest to the pedestal. Go all the way back in time until the lantern is lit. If you picked the wrong GF, try again. With the lantern lit, go forward in time until Arina can retrieve the lantern. Get to the pedestal and complete the level. The Gardens Between 4-3 Treehouse Go forward in time until Frendt reaches the balloon bell. Enter the sub-timeline and reverse time until the lift to the left descends all the way down to the wooden planks that Arina is on. Don’t go any lower. Exit the sub-timeline and go forward. Have Arina place the lantern on the stationary GF. Go slightly back, and ring the balloon bell. In the sub-timeline, go back in time until the lantern is lit by the blooming flower at the bottom. Go forward until the lift is aligned with the planks again. Exit the sub-timeline, go forward, pick up the lit lantern, and head for the light bridge. Once you’re past the light bridge, keep going forward until you reach the balloon bell. Enter the sub-timeline and repeat the steps from before. In short, have the lift reach the planks at the level you’re standing on, then exit the sub-timeline. Have Arina place the lantern on the stationary GF, and then get Frendt to move the lift all the way down so that the lantern is lit. Don’t have Arina pick up the lantern just yet, though. While you’re in the sub-timeline, notice the hanging bell on the level just above yours. Raise the lift until the cloud around the hanging bell disperses, then exit the sub-timeline. Go forward, reach the hanging bell as Frendt and ring the bell to enable the dark flower. Return to the balloon bell, enter the sub-timeline, and reverse time until the lift is on the same level as Arina. Have Arina pick up the lantern. Now go forward to the balloon bell and lower the lift. Keep an eye on its counterweight: the cinderblock with the dark flower. Make sure the dark orb is aligned with the level that the floating cloud is on. Exit the sub-timeline and go forward. If you raised the dark flower, you should be able to pass through the floating cloud no problem. Just after you do, though, your light will be extinguished. Now climb up the ladder, past the cloud bridge, and use the balloon bell to raise the lift as high as it can go. Go forward, and the GF will jump off the lift. Once Arina is on the lift, have Frendt use the balloon bell and lower it all the way down. Once the lantern is lit, raise the lift all the way up and exit the sub-timeline. Head for the pedestal and complete the level. Congratulations, you’ve finished roughly half of The Gardens Between! Don’t have The Gardens Between yet?
