The House of Tesla Walkthrough – Tesla Factory Ground Floor

Welcome to our walkthrough for The House of Tesla. This section covers the entirety of Chapter 3: Tesla Factory – Ground Floor.

After repairing the elevator, you now have access to the lower levels. But you’re not out of the woods yet. The ground floor of the factory is packed with strange new puzzles, each one taking you one step closer to the way out.

The Punch Card Machine

After reaching the lower floors, turn left.

You’ll spot a closed metal door with a green box beside it.

Take a closer look at the box.

Rotate the crank clockwise and slide the lid to the right to open it. Inside, you’ll see a dotted pattern.

Make a mental note of the pattern. 

Return to your starting position and turn right. You’ll see a workbench with a strange device on top. Head towards it.

This device is a punch card machine used by the factory workers. Pressing the three buttons on the front changes the symbols inside the glass tubes. The lever on the left lines up the tubes one after another to form a complete shape.

Your goal is to recreate the pattern you saw earlier. Press the buttons until the pattern in the glass tubes forms the symbol you saw earlier, then pull the left lever to align the tubes. 

Check the image above for the correct pattern for each tube. 

Once the shape is complete, pull the right lever to print out a Punched Card. Pick it up.

Go back to the green box beside the metal door and place the Punched Card into the empty slot above the lid.

Close the lid and rotate the crank to unlock the door. 

Inspect the door, rotate the wheel to open it, and then head down.

The Boiler Room

The door leads you to a small boiler room. 

Look down to your left as you enter to spot some coal on the floor.

Take a closer look at it to find a Nixie Tube. Pick it up. 

Back away and turn right. You’ll see a lever on your left.

Pull on it to push coal into the furnace. 

On the floor beside the furnace, you’ll also find a box of matches. Take a closer look and pick up a matchstick. Hold the left mouse button and drag it across the side of the box to light it.

Use the burning matchstick on the coal to fire up the furnace.

Look at the pipe right next to the burning furnace. The bottom part has a weird locking mechanism attached to it.

First, try opening the valve. This shows you a leak in the pipe. So you need a way to plug the leak before you can open the valve.

Inspect the locking mechanism in the lower part of the pipe. You can use the handle to grab and rotate the top ring around. Once the blocks in the top ring line up with the bottom one, you can join them together. You need to use this mechanism to plug the leak at the bottom.

Move the rings around and push them down when they are in the correct spot to solve this puzzle.

Once the plug is leaked, open the valve. This will trigger a cutscene showing the turbines outside powering on for a brief period. After the cutscene ends, you’ll see a bunch of fumes come out from the pipes beside you. The water pressure in the pipeline has dropped, and you need to fix it to progress further.

Start by trying to open the valve on the right. This will show you where the leaks are coming from in the pipeline. You can use the taps to open and close the different pipes. The two gauges on the left show you the water pressure. To solve this puzzle, you need to ensure a proper water supply while preventing any leakage on the pipeline.

Check the image above for the correct position of all the taps. Open the valve on the right and watch the cutscene of a generator outside powering on. Head out of the boiler room; you’re done with this section.

Accessing the Cabin

Return to the ground floor of the factory and head towards the generator.

You’ll spot another green box on the left side, beside a cabin.

Similar to before, turn the crank and slide open the lid to see the pattern behind it.

Return to the punch card machine and insert the Nixie Tube in the empty slot on the right.

You need to print another punched card. Refer to the image above to see the correct pattern on the tubes.

Take the Punched Card and use it on the green box to open the doors to the cabin.

Get inside the cabin and try to turn the handle. But the protagonist notes that there is not enough power in the cabin to move it.

Click on the front window of the cabin to take a closer look. There is a directional joystick on the bottom-left and a button on the bottom-right. These control the crane on the other side. You can also spot two turbines under the crane. The turbine on the right is the one that exploded earlier. But the left one is still functional.

Use the crane to pick up the turbine on the right. Drop it into the empty cart in the middle. Then pick up the turbine on the left and move it all the way to the right. Drop it down.

Go out of the cabin and head towards the generator on the right. Use the lever and watch the cutscene.

Opening the Main Factory Door

Return to the cabin and use the handle on the side to lift it up.

Check the front window. You now get a bird’s eye view of the front of the factory.

You’ll notice that the train track is blocked because of all the equipment on the ground floor. You’ll also notice two additional buttons on the top-left and top-right in the control panel. The top-right button raises the factory door, but it doesn’t stay up for long. The top-right button will push the train cart at the bottom forward if the tracks are clear.

To solve this puzzle, you need to first clear the train track so that the cart can move forward. Then, raise the gate and activate the train cart before the gate closes down.

But before you can do anything, you need to divert power to the machine on the left of the train cart. Use your Tesla Prototype to check the available nodes.

Here’s how we arranged the objects on the ground floor to clear the path for the train cart.

And the above image shows you how we diverted the power.

With that done, click the top-right button. Hit the top-left button before the door closes so that the cart keeps the main door open.

Go down using the handle in the cabin. Once at the bottom, the left door will open. Take it to get outside the factory.

After stepping outside, you’ll see a massive train in the distance, though you can’t reach it just yet.

You can also spot a switchstand nearby. Take a closer look and slide the lid out of the way.

You’ll notice two sets of wires leading up from the bottom, but the discs make it hard to tell if they’re connected correctly. Rotate the discs until you can clearly trace the wire. You can only check one at a time. 

The plug at the end of the right-side wire isn’t connected properly. 

Snap the two loose ends together to complete the connection. A cutscene will play, and once it ends, you’ll be able to walk up to the massive train.

Unlocking The Train Doors

Head towards the train and try to open the door. You’ll see that the door is locked.

Turn around and head toward the front part of the train.

You’ll find a strange fuse box here. This device distributes electricity throughout the train, but it’s not powered properly right now. Interact with it.

You can press the large button on the three discs here to slide them out. The disc on the right has a circuit board inside it. Pick it up. Also note that there are three lights next to each large button.

Red light means the circuit board is missing, yellow light means the board isn’t configured properly, and the green light means everything is perfect. We need to configure the Circuit Board and place it back in its slot.

One more thing to note here is that once you pick up the Circuit Board, you can clearly see six contact points.

Interact with the Circuit Board in your inventory. Note that the outer ring serves as the connection with the contact points in the machine. You can use the four sliders in the middle of the Circuit Board to dictate how power is traced across the board.

To solve the puzzle, you need to configure the Circuit Board so that it gets power to all its contact points when you place it back in its slot.

Place it back in its slot, and the train door will get unlocked.

Fixing the Train

Open the train door and head inside. You’ll spot a diagram on the wall highlighting different sections of the train in red. These are the parts you have to fix to get the train running.

You can spot a window directly under the diagram. Click on it. Then pull the door open. You’ll find the Handle inside.

Slide the door inside the engine room open. You’ll see a yellow door on the other side.

Use the Handle with the door and open it.

Inside, you’ll find a device with a strange aura on it. Click on it to enter the Tesla Memory for this chapter.

Tesla Memory

Watch the cutscene and choose Puzzle as the answer for the quiz.

You’ll find yourself working with a puzzle cube. There are four symbols inside the Star in the inner section of the puzzle. The outer border has some symbols engraved inside a circle. There’s also a silver circle that you can move along the outer edge.

To solve this puzzle, you’ll have to move the silver circle to a location so that the symbols around each star describe the symbol engraved in the star.

To solve the first part of the puzzle box, move the silver circle to the bottom middle slot, as shown in the image above.

This will open the right side of the cube, revealing another puzzle of the same type. The image above shows you the solution.

You’ll have to solve another puzzle of the same type on the left side of the cube. The idea is the same, and the image above shows you the correct position of the discs.

Solving the third puzzle opens the cube some more, revealing two handles on the side and a scattered drawing of a boat above. You can move the handles, sliding them in or out to influence the drawing. You need to complete the picture to complete this puzzle. This one is pretty easy. Just slide the left handle one slot in and the right handle two slots in to complete the puzzle.

The top part of the cube will pop open, and a book will come out. Pick it up.

Let the cutscene play out and choose Charlatan as the answer for the final quiz. This will complete the Tesla Memory.

The 2nd Circuit Board

Once you return to the train cabin in the present, you’ll find yourself in front of a device. Make a mental note of it as it will come in handy later on.

For now, turn your attention towards the other table in the cabin. You’ll find a device on top of it and a Ceramic Disc beside it. Pick up the Ceramic Disc.

Interact with the device. Use the Ceramic Disc with it.

Use the handle on your left once the device stops working.

Collect the Circuit Board, and return to the fuse box at the front of the train.

This Circuit Board can be slotted into the top disc of the fuse box, but like before, it needs to be configured properly before it works.

This Circuit Board, like the first one, has an outer ring. But it also has an inner ring that can be rotated.

To configure the circuit properly, check the image above.

Slot it into place, and watch the small cutscene of the top section of the train opening up.

Powering the Engine

Head back to the engine cabin and go out the door. Instead of heading into the cabin with the yellow door, turn around. You’ll spot a ladder heading up.

Use the ladder to go up and interact with the panel you see up ahead.

Pressing the button under each cylinder causes different electrodes to rise up at the front of the train. When you press two buttons with matching cylinder color, the electrodes stay up. You can pull the lever on the right to reset the puzzle.

To solve this puzzle, you need to press a pair of buttons in a specific sequence so that all the electrodes stay up. The image above shows you the sequence you need to press the buttons in to complete the puzzle.

After solving the puzzle, the electrodes start working in sync, and the panel disappears. However, as it goes down, the lever from the panel breaks off. Pick it up.

The Third Circuit Board

Return to the train cabin with the Yellow Door and check the device on the right side. It’s the one where you accessed the Tesla Memory.

You’ll notice that there’s a white Ceramic Disc stuck at the top.

Use the Lever from your inventory with the empty slot on the right side in front of the device.

Pull the lever to release the Ceramic Disc. Pick it up.

Return to the machine that created the second Circuit Board for you and insert the Ceramic Disc.

Pull the lever once the machine is done working to collect the final Circuit Board.

Return to the front of the train. This Circuit Board goes into the left slot, but like before, you need to configure it first.

Interact with the Circuit Board and configure it like the image above to solve this puzzle.

Once you’re done, slot it in to open a new section at the front of the train.

Fixing The Train’s Motor

Head to the new section that opened up at the front. Use the handle at the bottom to move the front plate out of the way.

You’ll see some bent metal arms blocking the path to the inner cylinder. You have to move the metal arms out of the way. You need to carefully move each arm so that they don’t end up blocking each other.

After moving all the metal arms, the middle cylinder rises up. Rotate it and the plate will drop down to reveal another puzzle behind it.

The premise of this puzzle is simple. There’s a small gold gear that you can move across the notches. Doing so will cause the small silver gears to move in a predetermined path. There’s a large golden gear with a slot in the middle on the right. This is where you need to take the small golden gear.

Despite having such a simple design, we were stuck on this puzzle for a while. The video above shows you the route we took to solve this puzzle.

Once you solve the puzzle, the motor turns on.

Repairing The Broken Piston

Return to the engine room. Take a closer look at the device on the floor.

You can pull the lid down to look inside the device.

Interact with the item inside to collect the Damaged Piston.

Return to the cabin with the yellow door and interact with the machine on the right. Use the Broken Piston with the opening at the top.

You need to repair the Piston with the controls on the device. There are three elements that you can control. The button on the left, in front of the machine, rotates two golden beams. The lever on the right, in front of the machine, activates or disables the clamp at the top of the golden beam. Finally, the switch on the left adjusts the height of the clamp.

If you check the piston closely, you’ll notice that each of the fragment has notches in it to connect to the other pieces. Simply rotate and adjust the fragments in the machine so that they all connect perfectly.

Collect the Repaired Piston once you’re done.

Return to the device and insert the Repaired Piston in its rightful place.

You’ve repaired all parts of the train. Now you’re ready to get moving.

Before you do so, get off the train and head toward the switchboard near the front.

Activate it to route the train tracks towards the main gate.

Return to the engine cabin and use the lever below the diagram to start the train.
