Disclaimer

As The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian features a large number of choices and branching paths, this Chapter 3 walkthrough is based entirely on the decisions we made during our own playthrough. Your choices may differ from ours, which means you could experience different outcomes or encounter events that never appeared in our playthrough. Likewise, some events and decisions covered in this guide will only be available if you closely follow the same choices we made, so keep that in mind while using this walkthrough.

18 Years Old – Tarquinius’s Legacy

In this book, Jerian is now 18 years old, and after dealing with the previous matters, he now has to face another issue involving money. Uther has left both you and Cornelius to deal with the situation on your own, so you must decide whether there is a need to build a new temple for The Twins.

The first option improves your relationship with both the Old Faith Clergy and the New Faith Clergy. It also increases Dogmatism by one point and improves your relationship with Orgrif. The second option weakens your relationship with both Clergies as well as Orgrif, but it increases your Scholarship skill by one point.

The third option weakens your relationship with the Old Faith Clergy while also reducing Elitism in the Empire. It improves your relationship with the New Faith Clergy. However, it has both the Lock of Sanity and the Lock of Legacy. This option is unlocked if you have seven or fewer points in Passion and at least 10 points in Scholarship.

We opened the Lock of Legacy using the Legacy of Tempest and chose the third option.

Law Above Love

Law Above Love in The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian, Chapter 3, The Great Censor.

In this book, a man named Manius Goriot is asked to tell Jerian what his ancestors knew about The Twins through the Blood Tide. However, he refuses because his Lot does not allow him to reveal that knowledge. You must now make a decision.

The first option has the Lock of Sanity and is unlocked if you have seven or fewer points in Law. Choosing it weakens your relationship with the Old Faith Clergy, increases Logic and Scholarship, and reduces Passion by one point.

The last option increases Love by one point while reducing Law by one point. It also weakens your relationship with Orgrif.

We chose the first option.

The Triumvirate

In this book, a debate takes place regarding the trading of titles and land allotments. The main discussion revolves around whether land should be sold to humans who can make better use of it. The final decision is left in your hands.

The first option reduces your relationship with the Great Houses and Aegerius Monrogue but improves your relationships with the Commoners and Cornelius. It also reduces Tradition by one point while increasing Progress by one point, making it the best choice.

The second option has the opposite effects while also increasing your Diplomacy skill by one point. The third option improves your relationships with both Cornelius and Aegerius. The last option weakens your relationships with the Great Houses, the Commoners, Cornelius, and Aegerius, but increases the Power of Tempest by two points.

We chose the first option.

Crisis Of Tradition

This event is triggered if you supported Cornelius during the previous decision. You must now decide whether to ban the college from studying Arknian and Church relics or allow it to continue its work.

The first option reduces Progress by one point and adds that point to Tradition. It also reduces Will by one point while increasing Blood by one point.

The second option weakens your relationship with the Great Houses and the Old Faith Clergy, but it also reduces Rebellion by one point. It increases Logic by one point while reducing Passion by one point.

If you choose the third option, it has the same effects as the previous option, but it grants one additional point in Progress. It also has the Lock of Legacy, and this option is only available if you have at least five points in Diplomacy.

We chose the third option.

The Imperial Council event will then begin. It mainly consists of a letter, so simply read through it before continuing to the next event.

The Great Censor

The Great Censor in The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian.

In this book, you learn more about subsidies and how they are affecting the Arknians. You must now decide whether to keep the subsidies or cancel them. This time, there are five available options, the highest number of choices so far.

The first option weakens your relationship with the Great Houses, increases Progress by one point, and improves your relationship with Aegerius Monrogue.

The second option weakens your relationship with the Great Houses, improves your relationship with the Commoners, increases Progress by one point, increases Will by one point, reduces Blood by one point, and also improves your relationship with Aegerius.

The third option increases your Management skill and improves your relationship with Ovidius Marcius while weakening your relationship with Cornelius.

The fourth option improves your relationship with the Great Houses, reduces Progress by one point while increasing Tradition by one point, reduces Logic by one point while increasing Passion by one point, improves your relationship with Ovidius, and weakens your relationship with Cornelius.

The fifth option increases Progress by one point and improves your relationship with Aegerius. It also has both the Lock of Fate and the Lock of Sanity.

We chose the fifth option, but if it is locked for you, you can safely choose the first option instead since both options have very similar outcomes.

The Ugly Swan

In this book, you learn more about Jerian’s brother and why he has been forced to wear a silver collar around his neck. You must now decide whether the collar should be removed from Flavius.

There are three available options. The first option reduces Love by one point while increasing Law by one point. It also increases your Scholarship skill and improves your relationship with Orgrif.

The second option simply improves your relationship with Flavius.

The third option improves your relationship with your brother as well as Marcius Milanidas. It also grants Flavius the Mage title. Keep in mind that this option has both the Lock of Fate and the Lock of Legacy, although the requirements are fairly easy to meet, so it will most likely already be unlocked for you.

We chose the third option.

The Debate event will then play out, revealing that Elitism within the Empire has decreased.

Shared Goals

As Jerian is traveling, Aegerius Monrogue approaches him and begins talking about how Cornelius made a mistake. He explains that giving land to humans during one of the earlier events was the wrong decision. He then proposes destroying the market stalls and rebuilding the forum, leaving you with another important choice.

There are four available options. The first option has the Lock of Sanity and is unlocked if you have seven or fewer points in Logic. Choosing it improves your relationship with the Great Houses but weakens your relationship with the Commoners. It also reduces Progress by one point and makes Aegerius your ally.

The second option only increases your Diplomacy skill by one point.

The third option also has the Lock of Sanity and is unlocked if you have at least eight points in either Law or Blood. This option weakens your relationship with the Great Houses, increases the Power of Tempest, adds 10 points to the Legacy of Tempest, and weakens your relationship with Aegerius.

The last option weakens your relationship with the Great Houses while improving your relationship with the Commoners. It increases Progress by one point, improves your Management skill, and weakens your relationship with Aegerius.

We went with the second option.

19 Years Old – Imperial Projects Are Now Unlocked & Sharing Your Pain

turned 19 in The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian, The Great Censor.

As Jerian turns 19, the Imperial Projects become available, allowing you to choose from six different projects. We selected the first option, Society of Arts and Science, because it increases Progress by one point.

Afterward, an event will be triggered if you have at least one point in your relationship with Agatha. During this event, she tells you that her father is in prison and that she never had the chance to say goodbye to him. You will then have three options to choose from.

The first option has the Lock of Sanity, which requires at least eight points in Love. Choosing this option weakens your relationship with the Old Faith Clergy, improves your relationship with Agatha, and makes her grateful.

The second option increases Logic by one point while strengthening your relationship with Agatha.

The last option increases your Scholarship skill by one point.

We went with the second option.

The Fate of the Humbled

The Fate of the Humbled in The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian, Chapter 3, The Great Censor.

In this event, after a lengthy discussion, you must decide whether the power of witchcraft should be used to serve the Empire. Since the decision could have serious consequences if it goes wrong, Cornelius calls for a vote.

The first option has the Lock of Sanity and is unlocked if you have seven or fewer points in Law. Choosing it weakens your relationship with the Old Faith Clergy, reduces Dogmatism by one point, and improves your relationship with Marcius.

The second option has both the Lock of Sanity and the Lock of Legacy. The requirement for the Lock of Sanity remains the same, while the Lock of Legacy requires at least 10 points in Scholarship. Choosing this option weakens your relationship with the Old Faith Clergy but improves your relationship with the New Faith Clergy.

It also increases Love by one point while improving your relationships with Lucius and Cornelius.

The third option increases your Scholarship skill and improves your relationships with Aegerius and Terentius.

The last option weakens your relationship with the Great Houses, improves your relationship with the Old Faith Clergy, increases both Dogmatism and Will by one point, and improves your relationship with Terentius.

We went with the second option.

Wrath of the Old Faith

In this event, which is very likely to trigger at this point and will definitely appear if you are following our walkthrough, you must make another important decision. The Old Faith Clergy opposes the Estates reading and discussing the Scripture because the Lot does not permit it.

You must now decide how to proceed. There are three available options. The first option reduces your relationship with the Old Faith Clergy by three points, increases Equality by one point, reduces Elitism by one point, and decreases the Power of Tempest by one point.

The second option increases your relationship with the Old Faith Clergy by two points, reduces your relationship with the New Faith Clergy by one point, and increases both Dogmatism and Rebellion by one point.

The last option improves your relationship with the Old Faith Clergy while also increasing Rebellion by one point.

We went with the first option because increasing the chances of a rebellion is never a good idea.

Crisis Of Elitism

After reducing the influence of Elitism to zero, a new event, Crisis of Elitism, will be triggered. During this event, Jerian has a conversation with Gaius about equality. Gaius argues that humans can never be equal to Arknians and believes it is the Arknians’ responsibility to rule over them. He also wants to restrict human control over managing the forests.

There are three options to choose from. The first option removes one point from Equality and adds one point to Elitism. It also reduces Logic by one point while increasing Passion by one point.

The second option weakens your relationship with the Great Houses and the Distinguished Arknians. However, it also reduces Rebellion by one point and increases Love by one point.

The third option has the same effects as the second option but also increases Equality by one point.

We went with the second option.

The Foundation Of Republic

In this event, you experience the effects of the Blood Tide once again. This time, the memory belongs to an ancestor named Aquilius Tempest, who tells Jerian that true power comes from Passion and encourages him to embrace it. You must now make a decision.

There are three available options. The first option has the Lock of Sanity and requires seven or fewer points in Logic to unlock. Choosing it grants 10 points to the Legacy of Tempest, removes three points from Logic, and adds those three points to Passion.

The second option reduces the Legacy of Tempest by five points. If your Legacy is already at zero, it will simply remain there. It also increases Logic by one point and improves your Diplomacy skill by one point.

The last option increases Love by one point while reducing Law by one point.

We went with the second option.

The Lesser Quorum

During the Lesser Quorum event, you are presented with several amendments to review and approve. There are five available options.

The first option improves your relationships with the Great Houses and the Distinguished Arknians, but weakens your relationships with the New Faith Clergy and the Commoners. It also increases Elitism by one point and improves your Diplomacy skill.

The second option improves your relationship with the Commoners but weakens your relationship with the Great Houses. It also increases your Management skill by one point.

The third option improves your relationship with the New Faith Clergy but weakens your relationship with the Distinguished Arknians. It also increases your Scholarship skill by one point.

The fourth option weakens your relationship with the Distinguished Arknians but improves your relationships with the Commoners and the New Faith Clergy. It also increases both Progress and Equality by one point.

The last option has the same effects as the fourth option but does not weaken your relationship with the Distinguished Arknians.

We chose the last option.

Forbidden Luxuries, An Unequal Marriage, & Shattered Unity

During this event, the discussion centers around whether the ban preventing Commoners from purchasing luxury goods should be removed. The Arknians strongly oppose the idea, leaving you with four available choices.

The first option weakens your relationship with the Arknians, increases Equality by one point, and improves your relationship with Lucius.

The second option increases Equality by one point, increases Logic by one point, improves your relationships with the Commoners and Cornelius, and weakens your relationship with the Arknians.

The third option improves your Management skill while strengthening your relationships with Aegerius and Ovidius.

The last option improves your relationship with the Arknians and Aegerius but reduces your relationship with the Human Nobility, decreases Equality, reduces Love, and weakens your relationship with Cornelius.

We went with the first option.

The next event is Unequal Marriage, where Cato wishes to marry a human. There are four available options.

The first option increases your Management skill by one point. If you choose the second option, your relationship with the Great Houses weakens, but you gain one point in Jurisprudence and one point in Love.

The third option increases your Diplomacy skill by one point. The last option improves your relationship with the New Faith Clergy while increasing Equality by one point.

We went with the third option.

As a result of this decision, another event will be triggered. During this event, you should support Cornelius’ proposal by choosing the third option, as we did in our playthrough.

The Foundation Of Politics & Dogmatism In Crisis

Dogmatism in Crisis in The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian, Chapter 3, The Great Censor.
Dogmatism in Crisis in The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian, Chapter 3, The Great Censor.

In this book, Prince Jerian, through the Blood Tide, has a conversation with one of his ancestors, Gladius Tempest, who was rejected by both the Blood Tide and his own ancestors. Despite doing what he believed was right, he was still cast aside. You must now decide whether to embrace him, accuse him of dishonor, or reject him.

The first option increases the Legacy of Tempest by 10 points and adds three points to Logic. The second option reduces Logic by one point. The third option reduces Will by one point and adds that point to Blood.

The first option has the Lock of Sanity, but it is unlocked if you have seven or fewer points in Passion.

We went with the first option.

The next event, Dogmatism in Crisis, will then be triggered. During this event, the discussion revolves around whether the law should apply equally to everyone, while the Church argues that it should retain the exclusive right to prosecute members of the clergy.

The first option decreases Jurisprudence by one point and increases Dogmatism by one point. It also reduces Love by one point while increasing Law by one point.

The second option weakens your relationships with both the Old Faith Clergy and the New Faith Clergy, reduces Rebellion, and increases Will by one point.

The third option has the same effects as the second option but also increases Jurisprudence by one point.

We went with the third option.

The Birth Of A Prince & A Marton’s Duty

In this book, you learn that Flavius has successfully gone through the Blood Tide and has become a true Arknian. However, he gets extremely drunk during the celebration, forcing you to step in before he delivers a speech that could lead to a major scandal.

The first option increases the Legacy of Tempest by five points and improves your relationship with Flavius.

The second option weakens your relationship with the Great Houses but increases your Scholarship skill by one point.

The third option weakens your relationship with the Great Houses but improves your relationship with the Distinguished Arknians. It also reduces Logic by one point and weakens your relationship with Flavius.

The last option weakens your relationship with the Great Houses but improves your relationship with Ovidius.

We chose the last option.

In the next book, A Marton’s Duty, Monrogue not only disrespects Servilia but also Cornelius. You must then decide whether to side with him, banish him from the palace, or break the alliance altogether.

The first option increases your Diplomacy skill by one point but weakens your relationships with Servilia and Cornelius.

The second option reduces Logic by one point, weakens your relationship with Monrogue, and improves your relationship with Servilia.

The third option has the same effects as the second option but also weakens your relationship with the Great Houses and inflicts the Estranged effect on Monrogue.

We went with the second option.

A Celebration Of All & A Councilor’s Duty

A Celebration for All in The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian, Chapter 3, The Great Censor.
A Celebration for All in The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian, Chapter 3, The Great Censor.

In this book, you will learn about an event where humans are invited to celebrate alongside Arknians, but Servilia strongly disagrees with the idea. She plans to lead those she considers true nobles away from the celebration so they do not have to spend time with humans.

You will now have four options to choose from. The first option improves your relationship with Servilia while also increasing your Diplomacy skill. The second option improves your relationship with Cornelius and increases your Scholarship skill.

The third option weakens your relationship with the Great Houses and Servilia but improves your relationships with the Human Nobility and Cornelius. It also increases Logic by one point.

The last option has the opposite effects of the third option.

We went with the third option, but keep in mind that it has the Lock of Legacy, which will only be unlocked if you have at least 10 points in Diplomacy or spend Legacy of Tempest to unlock it.

In the next book, A Councilor’s Duty, Cornelius presents another proposal aimed at creating greater equality. You will have four options to choose from.

The first option weakens your relationship with Cornelius but improves your relationship with Monrogue.

The second option improves your relationships with Monrogue and Ovidius but weakens your relationship with Cornelius.

The third option improves your relationship with Cornelius but weakens your relationship with Monrogue.

The last option improves your relationships with Cornelius and Lucius but weakens your relationship with Monrogue.

We chose the last option.

Rise Of Progress & Uncomfortable Questions

This event is triggered once Progress reaches five points, and you will have to make another important decision.

The first option weakens your relationship with the Old Faith Clergy but improves your relationships with the Human Nobility and the Commoners. It also increases both Progress and Logic by one point while reducing Rebellion.

The second and third options are almost identical, with only one major difference. If you choose the second option, your relationship with the Great Houses is weakened, whereas the third option does not weaken your relationship with anyone.

The last option weakens your relationships with the Human Nobility and the Commoners while reducing both Progress and Logic by one point.

We went with the third option.

In the next book, pay close attention because Uther Tempest makes several compelling points during his conversation with Jerian. He does not want Jerian to suffer the same fate as the previous Emperors, as he himself is currently facing those very challenges. After the discussion, you must choose from three options.

The first option increases Love by one point and improves your relationship with Uther.

The second option reduces Love by one point.

The third option adds five points to the Legacy of Tempest, reduces both Will and Logic by one point, and weakens your relationship with Uther.

We went with the first option.

20 Years Old – Choose A Project & Lost Peace

Now that Jerian has turned 20, it is time to select another project. We chose Committee for Aiding the Needy because it increases Equality by one point and improves your relationship with the New Faith Clergy.

Afterward, the next book, Lost Peace, begins. In this book, Prince Jerian has a conversation with his brother, Flavius, and you should carefully listen to his arguments. At the end of the conversation, Flavius invites you to spend the evening with him. You will then have four options to choose from.

The first option reduces both Love and Will by two points but improves your relationship with Lucretia.

The second option reduces Logic by two points while increasing Will by two points. It also improves your relationship with Camille.

The third option increases Logic by two points and also improves your relationship with Agatha.

The last option adds five points to the Legacy of Tempest and improves your relationship with Flavius. However, it also reduces Logic by two points.

We went with the third option.

Dishonor & Cornelius’ Fate

Dishonor in The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian, Chapter 3, The Great Censor.

In the next book, Dishonor, Servilia invites Cornelius to her chambers and falsely accuses him of committing a crime, even though she was the one who encouraged his actions. You must now make a decision.

The first option increases the Legacy of Tempest by five points, reduces Will by one point, and weakens your relationships with both Servilia and Cornelius.

The second option weakens your relationship with Servilia.

The third option weakens your relationship with Cornelius.

The last option reduces the Legacy of Tempest by five points but improves your relationship with Marcius.

We went with the second option.

Immediately afterward, the next event begins, where you must decide Cornelius’ Fate.

The first option improves your relationship with the Commoners, increases Rebellion by one point, and appoints Cornelius as Overseer.

The second option increases Rebellion by one point, increases the Power of Tempest by one point, and exiles Cornelius.

The third option improves your relationship with the Distinguished Arknians, increases Rebellion by one point, reduces the Power of Tempest by one point, adds five points to the Legacy of Tempest, and weakens your relationship with Cornelius.

The last option weakens the Power of Tempest and also weakens your relationship with Cornelius.

We went with the first option, but since we did not have two points in our relationship with Ovidius, we had to spend five points from the Legacy of Tempest.

Settling The Tab & The Rise Of Equality

In this event, you must finally settle the Empire’s debts. There are four available options.

The first option improves your relationships with the Great Houses and the Distinguished Arknians but weakens your relationships with the Commoners and the Human Nobility. It also reduces both Progress and Equality by one point while improving your relationship with Aegerius.

The second option weakens your relationships with the Great Houses, the Distinguished Arknians, and Aegerius Monrogue. However, it improves your relationships with the Human Nobility and the Commoners while increasing both Progress and Equality by one point.

The third option reduces the Power of Tempest by five points and makes Milanidas the Archduke of Hermia.

The last option weakens your relationships with the Great Houses and the Distinguished Arknians while increasing Rebellion by two points.

We went with the second option.

If Equality reaches five points, The Rise of Equality event will be triggered. During this event, the Arknians oversee the Lesser Quorum, and you must come up with a solution.

There are four available options. The first option weakens your relationship with the Great Houses but improves your relationships with the Commoners and the Human Nobility. It also increases both Equality and Love by one point while reducing Rebellion by one point.

The second option has the same effects but also weakens your relationship with the Distinguished Arknians.

The third option has the same benefits as the previous options but does not weaken your relationship with anyone.

The last option weakens your relationships with the New Faith Clergy and the Commoners while reducing both Equality and Love by one point.

We went with the third option.

Faith For Blood

This event features The Twins as another effect of the Blood Tide. You will have two options to choose from.

The first option reduces Jurisprudence by one point while increasing Dogmatism by one point. It also reduces Rebellion by one point, decreases Love by two points, and increases Law by two points.

The second option increases Jurisprudence by one point and increases Love by two points. Both options unlock different events later in the game.

We went with the second option.

With that, Chapter 3, The Great Censor, in The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian comes to an end.
