Welcome to part 1 of our walkthrough for The Occultist.
The game begins with Alan Rebels landing on the shores of Godstone Island. Everything seems to be quiet at the moment. However, as he heads deeper, things take a darker, more sinister turn.

Table of contents
The Beginning

After the intro cutscene, you’ll find yourself at the shores of Godstone Island. Head toward the fallen tree.

Crouch under the tree and continue moving forward along the path through the forest.

Go straight to the end of the path to find that the road is missing. But you’ll see a ball of light rush toward you and fly off behind you.

Turn around and start walking back. You’ll see a path veer off to the left. Follow the left path.

This will lead you to a river. There’s a log acting as a makeshift bridge here that you can use to get across.

Use the Left Stick on your controller or directional buttons to maintain balance as you walk across the tree.

Keep moving forward until you spot a cabin. You can catch a glimpse of a figure on the right side of the cabin, quickly scurry out of sight as you get near.

Alan will equip his Pendulum as you get near the cabin. Head into the cabin.
Using the Pendulum for the First Time

Examine the belt on the barrel with the lantern on top.

Then look toward the cabinet with the floral mat and hold RT/R2 on the controller to use the Pendulum to reveal a hidden document.

Examine it afterward. It’s a map depicting a secret lair near a house.

Exit the cabin to catch another glimpse of the figure holding the candles. Follow the path once they walk away.

Keep moving forward until you can spot a house past a grain field. You could walk up to the front door of the house and try to go inside. But the door will be locked.
Obtaining the House Key

Turn right instead of going into the grain field to spot a cave’s entrance. This is the secret lair that you saw on the map earlier.

Head toward the cave and crawl through the opening to get inside.

There are a couple of things you can do here. First, head toward the torch that’s shining light on the dolls and pick it up. From this point, you can use the RS/R3 button to turn the torch on or off.

Head to the far end of the cave and use the Pendulum to reveal a diary. Inspect the diary to collect a Necklace. Then pick up the Keyset from the box next to it.

There’s also a wooden board in the room. If you look at it using the Pendulum, you can see some drawings made by children on it.

With that done, exit the cave through the hole that you came through. Night has fallen, and as you’re about to get out of the cave, you’ll see the same figure once again in the distance, walking toward the house.

Head through the grain field toward the house. Interact with the front door and use the A Keyset item from your inventory to unlock the door.
A short cutscene will trigger where you see Alan enter the house, and the door closes behind him. It seems you’re stuck here for now.
Investigating the House
The Ground Floor

After the cutscene ends, you can use the Pendulum to reveal a picture on the wall. Look toward the staircase leading to the first floor and then turn slightly to the right.

Head into the small living room on your right first.

Use the Pendulum to reveal a hidden book (The Ascent) on the table on your left. Other than that, you’ll find two photos in this room.

Check the large living room on the left of the entrance next. You’ll find a couple of photographs here. You can also interact with the piano to play some tunes. But there’s nothing important here.

Return to the main door and head down the corridor past the stairs. Enter the bathroom on your right.

You’ll find the Thread with Hook item on the countertop. Pick it up.

Move along the main corridor to enter the Kitchen. You’ll see a chair slide toward the wall on its own.

Inspect the rotten food on the table.

Head toward the kitchen sink and read the note on the countertop. This is the first Gospel Fragment you can find in the game.


There’s a door in the middle of the kitchen that leads down to the basement. You can see a trail of blood leading into the basement if you use your Pendulum.

Open the door and head down the stairs. A cutscene will trigger. After this, the door gets locked. Alan notes that he needs to learn the name of the Spirit to enter the basement.
The First Floor

Return to the front door of the house and use the stairs to get to the first floor. There’s a child’s wheelchair at the top of the stairs that you can examine.

Turn around. Note that the door to the room on your left is open. However, before heading inside, go to the far end of the hall.

Pick up the Hammer from the table at the end. Inspect the two photos on the cabinet. The two doors on either side of the hall are locked.

Enter the room with the open door. Use your Pendulum to reveal a children’s toy on the study table.

Examine the toy and rotate it to find the name, Tommy.

Turn right and interact with the wooden toyshelf to push it to the side.

This will reveal a rusted air vent. Use the Hammer to open the vent.

Crawl through the vent to reach the room on the other side of the wall. You’ll see someone sitting on the rocking chair singing a spooky song.

However, as soon as you enter the room, the person disappears. Pick up the Lungs X-Ray from the table near the rocking chair.

There’s a bookshelf behind you. You’ll find a bottle of drugs here that you can check. It belongs to Whitney Parker.

Looking at the empty canvas will show you a bunch of creepy eyes.

There’s also a drawing on the cabinet and a crucifix hanging on the wall behind it that you can examine.

When you’re ready, exit the room through the door to return to the first-floor hallway.

Interact with the locked door up ahead and use the Lungs X-Ray from your inventory to open it.

Head into the room. The door to the attached bathroom will swing open.

There are two framed photographs here that you can inspect on your right. Use the Pendulum to see a bloody knife on the vanity dressing table.

Check the bedside table near the bathroom door for another photograph.

Head into the attached bathroom next. Go to the sink and use the Thread with Hook to fish out a ring from the drain.

Rotate the ring until you can examine the inscription in the inner part. Joseph-Telsa, the husband and the wife. So now you know the name of the lady of the house: Telsa. This is the name you needed to know to enter the basement.
The Basement

Once you examine the name on the ring, the lights in the bathroom will go out. Don’t worry, nothing bad is going to happen. Start making your way back to the kitchen on the ground floor.
As you get to the first-floor hallway, you’ll hear the sound of Telsa and Joseph arguing about their daughter, Whitney. The child’s wheelchair you saw earlier will also fall down the stairs.


Go to the kitchen and interact with the basement door. Arrange the letters to spell out the name TELSA. The door will open.

Head down the stairs and turn right immediately. You’ll spot an Altar.

Interact with it to light the candles.


Turn around and head to the area behind the stairs to enter a workshop. There’s a bloody shirt here that you can inspect.

Return to the stairs and follow the corridor to the left of the staircase.

Make your way through shelves. You can use the Pendulum to reveal some bottles in a wooden box.

Pick up the Candle from the shelf right after this part.

Continue along the path. You’ll see Telsa’s fallen body at the end of the corridor. There’s a candlestand near her. Use the Candle on the candlestand to trigger a short cutscene.

After the cutscene, turn right and interact with the shelf to push it out of the way.

Return to the stairs and head up to the kitchen. You’ll see Telsa’s Ghost scuttle off at the top of the stairs.

Go up the stairs. The door on your right is open now. Head through it to exit Parker’s House.
Evading the Ghost in The Grain Field

As you exit the house, you’ll see the White Raven sitting at the porch railing. Walk toward the grain field.

You’ll catch a quick glimpse of Telsa’s Ghost in the grain field.

As you enter the grain field, you need to move carefully. Telsa’s Ghost will be patrolling the area up ahead. On top of that, she is mostly invisible. The only way to see her clearly is by using the Pendulum.

Thankfull there are various objects around the field that you can use for cover. If Telsa’s Ghost spots you, you can run away and hide until it stops looking for you.

Make your way through the grain field while avoiding Telsa’s Ghost, and you’ll eventually reach a Barn. Head toward it to trigger a short cutscene as Alan enters the Barn and locks the door behind him.
Finding A Way To Escape the Barn

You’ll see a hanging body as soon as you enter the Barn.

Turn left and inspect the canteen. The name on it reads J. Parker, aka Joseph, the husband.

After this, hug the right-side wall of the barn to make your way forward. You’ll spot a ladder up ahead. Use it to head to the upper floor.

There’s a Winch Motor on your right as soon as you head up. But it’s missing a lever.

Walk across the wooden beam. You can access the rope where the body is hung from here, but you need to find a way to cut it.


There’s a room up ahead on the other side of the wooden beam. But before you head in, turn left and check the lockers.

You’ll find a pair of Unpolished Scissors inside one of the lockers. Pick it up. Then head into the room.

Turn right as soon as you enter and use the Pendulum to reveal a card on the table.

It’s a Family Visit Card that shows Whitney Parker admitted under Dr. Saunders‘ care in the Godstone Memorial Hospital.

There’s a grindstone on your right. Use the Unpolished Scissors with the grindstone to turn it into Polished Scissors.

Head to the far end of the room toward the workbench. There’s a note on the table on your right that you can examine.

The toolboard above the table is locked. You need to enter a combination code to open the lock.

Open the chest on the ground next to the table for a second Necklace.

You’ll also spot a statue of two hands on the workbench. You can use an item here.

Exit the room and walk to the wooden beam. Use the Polished Scissors to cut the rope.

Head back down the ladder and go to the body. Examine it to push it out of the way. Then pick up the Golden Ring on the ground.

Go back up the ladder to the statue of the two hands. There will be a QTE event as you head toward the ladder on the ground floor. Mash the prompt button when that happens.

Use the Golden Ring on the statue. It will press down and fall off revealing a document underneath. Note the number at the bottom of the statue: 61944.

Inspect the document.

Interact with the combination lock on the toolboard. Use the code 61944 to unlock it. Pick up the Lever.

Return to the Winch Motor near the ladder and use the Lever with it. The truck will drop down and break the back door open. Take the door to exit the barn.
Reaching the Godstone Memorial Hospital

After exiting the Barn, continue walking forward along the path. You’ll see the figure in the distance. This time, Alan calls out. But as always, they walk off before you can get close.

Keep moving along the dirt path, and you’ll soon reach the main road.

Continue down the road. You’ll see a stable at the end of the road. Head inside.

The door on the other end of the stable is locked. Crouch through the opening on the right. We’ve marked it on the image above.

Pick up the Pitchfork. Then head back to the main area of the stable.

Use the Pitchfork on the door at the end of the stable to pry it open just enough for you to squeeze through.

You’ll see some shadowy figures limping along the road. But they can’t reach you, and you can’t reach them.

Go right and head into the house up ahead.

Examine the two documents on the two tables, marked in the image above.

Enter the room on your left and use the Pendulum to reveal a book on the bed.

There’s also an Altar right next to the bed. Light the candles.

Return to the main hall of the house. There’s a bathroom at the far end, but there’s nothing inside. Take the back door at the end of the hall to exit the house.

Turn right and follow the path once you’re back outside.

Continue moving along the main road, and you’ll soon reach the steps of the Godstone Memorial Hospital. Head inside to trigger a cutscene.
