The Signifier Walkthrough – Chapter 4 (Part 2)

Stuck in The Signifier? This puzzle-focused walkthrough will guide you through the second part of the fourth chapter, ‘The Collapse’.

Welcome to the Into Indie Games walkthrough guide for The Signifier. This is a puzzle-focused guide to get you through the game, and it is not a story or achievement guide. As The Signifier is an adventure game, we encourage you to explore and investigate as much as possible and only consult this guide when you’re really stuck. Remember that when in a mind memory, you can also consult Evee for hints.

Club Memory (Contd.)

After the show, head to the door on the left of the stage and pick up the Raw Data here, then proceed through the door.

Go down the stairs and through the hallway down the next door. Here, there’s a timewarp near an attention-stealing mask.

Use the recent Raw Data (of the door) with the wall that’s near the man, but about the centre of the wall.

You can now proceed through the new door and go to the very end of the corridor, to the person sitting on the chair.

However, you can’t do anything here unless you use an avatar.

Return to the room with the timewarp and go down the hallway on the right, which is blocked by a broken door. In this hallway, there is a man in a dark shirt and a pig mask, who seems to be ‘glowing’. Interact with him to switch to his avatar.

With the man’s avatar, go into the room with the person on the chair that you can access through the newly-placed door, and switch out of the avatar to see a new entity appear. This will also boot you into the Objective State.

Follow the entity back towards the room with the timewarp and switch to the Subjective State.

If you get to close to the entity  in the Subjective State, you will be booted, so don’t go near it.

Your objective is to use your Raw Data (of the teacher) to shut down the masks and allow the entity to go through.

Switch to the Objective State, and go through the hallway that the entity is oscillating in. At the end of this hallway is a very small room. Enter here, make sure the entity is going away from you, and switch to the Subjective State.

Here, quickly place the Raw Data on the mask that that’s preventing the entity. This will allow the entity to pass through the door and beyond.

Now pick up the Raw Data again and go all the way up the stairs. Go to the barred door with the red light inside, and use the teacher Raw Data again to let the entity pass.

Pick up the Raw Data again and proceed through where the entity passed.

Go through the stage area over to the painting and enter the painting. Just after entering the painting, use your Raw Data to let the entity pass.

Go upstairs from here, over to the two people who are lit brightly and who the entity is close to.

Switch to the Objective State and interact with the people. Evee will let you know that you have another perspective puzzle on your hands.

Go downstairs to the stage and look up at the two people. You should be able to interact with them from here, and Russell will comment about the Objective State.

Once the entity moves, go upstairs and switch to the Subjective State.

Go all the way back to the apartment the way you came and you’ll find the entity below the two arguing people. Switch to the Objective State.

Listen to the people from the lower floor to hear what they’re arguing about.

This will complete the memory for now. Return to the lab using the Control Panel.

Real World

Go out the door and over to Alex’s House. Ring the intercom and talk to Alex as you wish. Then open the door, go through upstairs. You will get a call from Tom, and you can talk to him as you wish here.

Ring the bell at door 23 and talk to him about everything. This will clear up some objectives from your list.

After you’re done talking to Alex, go out to Richard’s house.

Head down the path and enter Richard’s house by interacting with the door twice. Go to the back of the house and down to the basement.

Look at Richard and you’ll knock off another objective. Explore the scene as you wish. If you attempt to leave, Russell will remember the dream. He is talking about the boiler that you saw at the end of the dream.

Return to the basement where you found Russell and enter the chain-link gate near the yellow light. Stand facing the boiler and the wall, and you’ll be able to interact with the boiler.

After picking up the item inside, head outside. You’ll get a call from Laura on the phone, and then you can leave the area.

Head home to resolve Laura’s storyline, or head to the lab to go to the next chapter.

If you go home, use the sofa and you’ll uncover a mask. Talk to Laura and when you’re done, head out to the Lab.
