The Sinking City 2 Walkthrough Part 3 – Fire Department & Printing House

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

Welcome to Into Indie Games’ walkthrough for the second part of The Sinking City 2.

We’ve opened the floodgate near the Church. But as we head toward the Devil’s Reef Hotel, another big obstacle comes up ahead. A Whale carcass blocks your path, and you need to fix a Crane to clear the way forward.

Entering the Fire Department

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

The Fire Department building isn’t too far from the floodgate near the Church. Continue moving forward until you find your path blocked by a Whale. Dock your boat at the docking station nearby.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

Get off the boat and climb up to the Crane Control Platform using the ladder.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

The control panel doesn’t work.

Go down the ladder and inspect the Crane Engine. It seems you’ll need Gasoline and the Missing Gear for the Crane to work.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

As you back off, a Stygian screeches at you and then quickly scuttles off inside The Silver Eel restaurant.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

Head to the door of the restaurant and enter through the hole under the door.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

You’ll find the Soggy Note document on the counter next to a cog. The note says you can find some machine parts in the Graveyard. Additionally, you can connect the Soggy Note with A Broken Crane evidence in the Investigation menu for a Dream Essence.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

Pick up the Graveyard Key from the counter afterward.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

The nearby door in the area leads into a Safe Room. Use it to save your progress if needed. Send the Graveyard Key to your Stash for now.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

Take the second door out of the Safe Room to get behind the restaurant’s counter. You’ll find the Field Surgeon Shotgun here, along with a Radio Codex Entry. You’ll also unlock the Shotgun Ammo Crafting Recipe.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

When you’re ready to move on, head through the broken wall of the restaurant. You can see the entrance to the Fire Department just up ahead.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

Head toward the door, but be careful of the Stygians in the area. Enter the building through the main door.

Obtaining Gasoline for the Crane

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

As soon as you enter the dark Fire Department, you’ll spot a can of Gasoline inside the warehouse. However, the floor around the door is electrified, so you can’t reach it.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

Loot the containers and lockers on the ground floor. Then head up the stairs on the left to reach the office.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

There are some more lockers and drawers to loot here. One of them contains the Regenerine Tonic, which is a pretty decent healing item. You’ll also unlock the Crafting Recipe for it once you pick one up.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

Enter the office area here. There’s an E.R.C on a table nearby. Unfortunately, we don’t have any Activator Pens right now.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

Interact with the switch on the wall of the office near the window to turn off the alarm.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

As you step out of the office, you’ll get attacked by a horde of Slither Pawns. It’s better to save your ammo. You could fight them, but if you don’t stomp the Slitherworms, they’ll just keep getting back up.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

Just interact with the fireman’s pole to slide down to the ground floor.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

There will be more Slither Pawns here. But the electricity is turned off. So you can enter the warehouse. Quickly grab the Gasoline Can and head back out through the main door.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

When you step outside, a fire erupts on the street. Go right and loop around till you get back inside The Silver Eel. Save your progress at the Safe Room.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

Exit through the hole under the door of The Silver Eel and use the Gasoline Can on the Crane Engine. That’s one part of the job done, but we still have to find the Missing Gear.

Entering the Printing House

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

Get back to your boat and start sailing toward the Church. Remember to bring the Graveyard Key with you. There’s a second dock here that’s closer to the Graveyard where you can get off.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

Use the key to unlock the gate and head through.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

There’s a wrecked bus just past the door. Head inside. Take out the Slither Pawn that jumps out from the water.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

Leave the bus through the other end, and continue following the path on the right. You’ll walk atop some broken buses to reach the fire exit of the Arkham Printing House.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

You’ll reach an open window that takes you straight inside the Main Office. Step inside.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

A cutscene triggers, the floor breaks, and you end up on the bottom floor of the building.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

Look around to find a lootable container and an E.R.C. We still don’t have any Activator Pens.

the sinking city 2 walkthrough

Continue forward and inspect the half-broken door to spot a Steel Gear in the next room. Unfortunately, the door doesn’t open from this side.

The large doorway leads you to the Press Room.

Loop around the stacks of paper to the right to spot another door that takes you to the Steel Gear. But it’s locked and requires the A.P.H Key.

There are some containers here that you can loot. Look for a hole in the wall at the far-left corner of the Press Room. Head through the hole when you’re ready to move on.

Obtaining the A.P.H Key

You’ll reach a flooded alley. There are two Slither Pawns up ahead. Take them down.

Walk up the alley, and you’ll spot another Slither Pawn facing away from you. Take it down as well.

Head into the Loading Dock up ahead. You’ll find the Adventure Awaits for Arkham’s Academics document on a crate near the ramp. The locked gate with the red light coming through also requires the A.P.H Key to unlock.

Go up the stacks of paper near the ramp to enter another metal staircase. This will lead you to another open window that you can climb through.

Turn left after entering the Empty House to spot another open window that connects to some pipes. This is the main path.

However, before you go out the window, head to the last room in the Empty House. There’s a Slither Pawn here that you’ll want to take down.

Enter the last room and pick up the Printing Plate A from the study table. You’ll also find the Incident During Study evidence on the same table after picking up the plate. There’s another Codex Entry (Lost Letters – Staying With You) here that you can get from the wardrobe beside the bed.

Leave the Empty House through the window connected to the pipes. The pipes will let you cross over to the fire escape of the Arkham Printing House.

Follow the path till you re-enter the Main Office through another broken window.

As you enter the Main Office, there’s a note (Floodwaters Rise!) on the table that you can collect along with some lootable drawers. You can see a boarded-up hole near the window that you came in from earlier. You can return to your boat through this window.

The brown door on the right will take you back to the Press Room.

The white door at the other end lets you enter the Director’s Office.

Enter the Director’s Office to spot a Safe Room on the right. Save your progress if needed.

Check the far corner of the Director’s Office to spot the A.P.H. Key hanging on the wall. Pick it up.

This will move the bookshelf in the corner of the office to reveal a Press Machine inside. You can insert the Printing Plate A and Printing Plate C from your inventory into the machine. But you still have to find the Printing Plate B to use it. So we’ll leave it for later.

Grabbing the Steel Gear and Escaping The Zone

With the A.P.H Key in hand, you can grab the Steel Gear right away. However, before that, I went and unlocked the door in the Loading Dock.

Head out the window connected to the Empty House from the Main Office. There’s a shortcut ladder that you can kick down to reach the area.

Head down the ladder and take out the Slither Pawn near the Loading Dock.

Use the A.P.H Key to open the locked door. Inside, you’ll find an E.R.C Activator Pen and a container with some crafting materials.

Go back to the Main Office and head through the brown door to get to the Press Room. As you go down the stairs, you’ll encounter a new type of enemy called Cocitian. They shoot projectiles from their face. But they are pretty easy to take down.

Once the enemies are dealt with, head to the area where you first fell in and open the E.R.C to expand your storage even more

Head to the Storage Room door and use the A.P.H Key to unlock it. Loot the drawers and lockers and then pick up the Steel Gear from the workbench.

When you leave the Storage Room, more Cocitians will spawn and attack you. I didn’t want to waste my ammo, so I ran straight for the Main Office.

Go through the window and make your way back to the dock. There will be some more enemies along the way, but you should be able to deal with them pretty easily.

Moving the Whale Out of the Way

Set sail from the dock near the Graveyard, and make your way back to the Fire Department dock. Interact with the Crane Engine and insert the Steel Gear.

Head up to the Crane Control Platform and interact with the panel.

Move the Crane to the left and bring it down once it’s over the red Claw Attachment on the street.

Take it back up once the grapple is attached. Then move it to the right until it’s above the Whale. Open the Claw and bring it down to grab the Whale and move it out of the way.

The path to the Devil’s Reef Hotel is clear, but there are a few optional things we’re going to do before we move on.

Investigate the Cursed Press (Optional)

Head to the main street outside the Fire Department through The Silver Eel. The area will be crawling with enemies if you haven’t taken them out earlier, so you’ll have to be quick.

Go to the far end of the street, past the door to the Fire Department. With the Claw Attachment removed from the street, you can enter the adjacent house using a ladder on the far end.

Enter through the window at the top of the ladder and take out the two Slither Pawns inside.

Pick up the Printing Plate B from the table near the bookshelf along with the evidence: About the Custom “Red” Franklin.

Head into the adjacent hallway and loot the cabinets for an E.R.C Activator Pen and a Regenerine Tonic.

Leave the house and go back down the ladder. Sprint to the office inside the Fire Department and use the Activator Pen to open the E.R.C. The chest will give you a Dream Essence along with some Shotgun Ammo.

Return to the dock and set off. We’re done with the Fire Department. So head back to the Graveyard. Make your way to the Printing Press in the Director’s Office and insert the Printing Plate B into the Press Machine.

Now you can interact with the tiles in a 3×3 grid to flip the adjacent tiles to show either the Gold or the Silver side.

Open the Investigation menu and connect the following evidence:

  • Letter to Boss
  • Incident During Study
  • About the Custom “Red” Franklin

Inspecting the notes tells you that you need to make all the plates show the same side. If all the plates are gold, you’ll get an offensive boost. The silver side, on the other hand, is imbued with the essence of the Dreamlands.

I ended up getting the Dream Essence by turning all the plates silver. If you manage to flip them to the gold side, you’ll get the Cutter’s Sturdy Stock attachment. You can only get one reward, after which the press stops working. The item spawns on the table behind you after solving the puzzle.

Opening The Last Floodgate

With the optional stuff complete, we can start moving toward the Devil’s Reef Hotel. Head back to your boat and return to the Fire Department dock. Then continue moving forward along the water.

Turn right at the intersection, and you’ll reach another floodgate. Dock your boat nearby and hop off.

Head in through the window of the ruined apartment building. The inside is a mess. You can spot a staircase, but the passage is destroyed. Head through the white door on the left.

This brings you to the Kitchen. There’s another brown door here. Head through it as well.

The Bedroom wall is gone, and you can just walk over to the living room. There’s a piano hanging off the edge of the missing floor. Pick up the document (Lost Letters – Meet Me At Dawn) from the bed on your right.

Walk toward the piano. It falls off as you get close, and two Slither Pawns climb out of the water. Take them out.

Continue forward, and you’ll spot another white door that takes you back to the hallway staircase. Go up the stairs.

Take out the Cocitian that jumps at you at the top.

Head into the apartment on the left through the broken wall and immediately turn right. There’s one last Slither Pawn near the open window that you need to take down.

The window will lead you straight to the Floodgate Switch. But before you head outside, go to the back of the apartment and pick up the Gerda Lost Her Head document from the cabinet inside a small room.

Leave the building through the window and use the Floodgate Switch to lift the gate.

Kick the ladder down near you, and return to the boat.

Sail past the gate to reach the Devil’s Reef Hotel. The dock is through the broken part of the wall. Dock your boat and hop off.
