Ancient Farm – Beginner Tips And Tricks

Ancient Farm

Developed by A2 Softworks, Ancient Farm is a relaxing farming simulator where you build ancient machines as you grow crops and sell your produce to the merchant for gold. You can manage animals, build a variety of different structures, and process different types of resources in this game. For more information on Ancient Farm, don’t forget to visit their official Steam page here.

While the game guides you through most of the basics, there are a few things that you should know before you head into this ancient desert to set up your farm and start growing your crops.

Don’t Grow The Same Crop In Bulk

Shortly after you’re able to grow your own crops, you should be mindful not to sow the seeds of the same crop in bulk. Crops in the game take several cycles to become ready to be harvested.

Once you harvest them, you’ll get plenty of units from a single plant. If you’ve placed, let’s say, 10 of the same plants, then you’ll end up with a multitude of the same type of product.

However, the problem arises when you go to sell your crops to the merchant. The way the merchant works is that if you sell the same type of product multiple times, its value will go down. It’s not an issue if you’re selling 40 or 50 units of something that initially sells for 100+ gold coins.

But, if you’re selling more units than that and the crop’s initial rate for selling is around 30, you won’t be making much profit. Instead, you should focus on variety.

Build Storage Early On

Just like every other farming simulator, the storage is extremely important here as well. You can build a storage by equipping a hammer and selecting the storage building.

The storage building allows you to store all types of materials and can be exceptionally useful for storing your crops and stuff that you don’t immediately need. If you’ve sold too many of the same crops to the merchant and their price has gone down a lot, you can store them in the storage for a couple of years till the price stabilizes.

Similarly, it’s a good idea to store some of your finished crops in the storage instead of selling them all because some advanced cooking recipes require different types of ingredients, and having those few extra crops in the storage can be of drastic help.

Furthermore, your storage capacity is limited, and if you’re carrying too much weight, you won’t be able to move freely. This is why the storage becomes so helpful early on, as you can pile up clay in the storage instead of having to go all the way back after becoming encumbered.

Be Mindful Of The Seasons

There are three primary seasons in the game: Peret, Shemu, and Akhet. You won’t be able to grow most crops in the Shemu season, and the ones you’ve already planted in other seasons will grow slowly during the Shemu season.

So, it’s best to be prepared and focus on growing livestock in the Shemu season instead of the crops. You can check if the crop doesn’t grow in a certain season by checking its description, and you’ll have to avoid planting it in that season because it will wither right away.

Furthermore, certain seasons provide a percentage-based yield bonus or decrease on crops. And, if you harvest the crop in the season with a bonus, you’ll likely get more produce. You can check what season modifier is active or not by looking at the bottom-right information panel while you’re interacting with a plant.

Trees are resilient and can last multiple years with repeatable harvests. Trees can also survive for a long time without watering. On the other hand, plants usually can survive only a few cycles without water, so don’t forget to check the details in the bottom-right information panel and water the plants regularly.

Use Livestock To Get Rich Quickly

While growing crops and cooking dishes is the cozy way of life, if you’re looking to get rich, you can buy some cows or pigs from the merchant.

These animals are expensive, but you’ll get a lot of profit from them. Buy at least two cows and put them in a cow farm. You’ll have to wait around a year for them to fully mature. Once they’re ready, you can take them to the slaughterhouse and get tons of beef.

Now, go to your house and turn that beef into cooked beef. You should have at least 50 units of cooked beef in your inventory now.

You can then head to the merchant and sell them your cooked beef for some easy money, so you can afford all the other, much expensive stuff, such as oxen or schemes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How To Sell Your Crops?

You can sell your crops to the merchant. Note that the merchant is only available at the start of each season at the pier near the river. They will stay there for a few cycles before sailing away.

How To Get Clay?

Clay is a required resource for many tools and structures. An easy way to obtain clay is to craft a clay pot from the workshop. After crafting a clay pot, you’ll have to equip it and head out near the riverbank. You’ll find a brown, muddy spot. Use your clay pot on this spot to add clay to your inventory.

How To Purchase Livestock?

You can purchase animals and livestock from the merchant. They’ll be added to your inventory, but you’ll have to place them in a suitable structure to get the full use out of them. Cows and pigs go to their respective farm sites, and oxen go to the barn. Each animal has a different shelter structure, and the produce from each animal is also processed at a different structure.
