Aniimo – Beginner Tips

Welcome to the Into Indie Games beginner tips guide to Aniimo.

At first glance, Aniimo will probably remind you of Palworld. After all, both games revolve around exploring the world, catching cute creatures, and building your team around them. But Aniimo has plenty of ideas of its own, with its own systems, mechanics, and ways to approach exploration and progression.

With so much to learn as you get started, you might get overwhelmed. These beginner tips will help you get a good start.

These Beginner Tips are based on our early gameplay experience. We may have missed some features, but these tips should still help you get a head start and understand how the game works.

How Catching Works

The game world is filled with numerous Aniimo, and these creatures can become valuable companions that help you with various tasks. However, before an Aniimo can join you, you first need to capture it using an Aniipod.

Aniipods are spheres that you can throw at Aniimo to capture them, but there are several factors that determine whether the capture will be successful.

Whenever you aim an Aniipod at an Aniimo, you will see a prompt showing your current capture success rate. So, what affects this percentage?

For starters, Aniimo can sense when you approach them. This puts them on alert, causing them to either run away or become aggressive and fight you. Once you alert an Aniimo, you won’t be able to capture it until you deal with the situation.

This is why you should sneak up on Aniimo whenever possible. Crouch down and slowly approach them without being detected. If you spot any tall white grass nearby, make use of it to move around stealthily and get closer without alerting the Aniimo.

You should also aim at an Aniimo from behind whenever possible. Doing so gives you the Backstab perk, which increases your capture success rate and makes it much easier to bring the Aniimo into your party.

If an Aniimo does become alerted and starts fighting you, you can still capture it. Simply lower its health as much as possible, then throw an Aniipod at it. This will give the Aniimo the Weakened state, which also increases your capture success rate.

This method works for most of the Aniimo you encounter throughout the game, with one major exception: Alpha Aniimo. These are essentially the boss versions of regular Aniimo and require a different approach. You must defeat an Alpha Aniimo first, after which you can use a special Aniipod to capture it.

Managing Your Aniimo Party

Once you have captured some Aniimo, they will be added to your collection and can be used as companions. You can have up to four Aniimo in your active party, with one of them being active at any given time.

Any Aniimo you capture beyond these four, they will be sent to your inventory. From there, you can access your Aniimo management options and change which Aniimo are part of your active party.

It is worth paying attention to which Aniimo you keep in your party, as they are useful for more than just combat. Different Aniimo have different exploration abilities, while their combat roles and elemental types can also make them more effective in certain situations.

Twining

Every Aniimo is unique, and as the Pathfinder, you can Twine with your Aniimo and become one with them. This allows you to experience the world from their perspective while gaining access to their unique abilities.

When you are in the Twined state, you gain the exploration abilities of the Aniimo you are Twined with.

For example, Twining with Flameruff allows you to explore areas that require its abilities, while Celestis can help you climb mountains and fly around. Skippy, meanwhile, you can use him to swim through bodies of water.

Because different Aniimo provide different exploration abilities, you should keep this in mind when putting together your party. Try to have Aniimo that cover different exploration skills, so you aren’t constantly having to change your party whenever you encounter something that requires a specific ability.

Thankfully, the Aniimo management menu makes this easier to keep track of, as the Exploration tab is separate from the combat information, allowing you to see which abilities your current Aniimo can provide.

Understanding Combat Roles

Aniimo aren’t only useful for exploring the world. They will also fight alongside you in combat, and you can either send them out to fight on their own or Twine with them and use their abilities yourself.

Aniimo have five different combat roles, each serving a different purpose:

  • DPS: Focuses on dealing health damage to enemies.
  • Break: Focuses on reducing an enemy’s Break Gauge. Breaking an enemy puts them into a weakened state where they become vulnerable to a Break Attack.
  • Support: Applies buffs to your team or debuffs to enemies.
  • Regen: Increases the regeneration rate of skills.
  • Healing: Restores health for you and your party, allowing everyone to stay in the fight for longer.

Pay attention to these roles when building your party, as having a good balance between damage, support, and survivability can make tougher encounters much easier.

Managing EP And Skills

Just like your Pathfinder, Aniimo have offensive skills that can be used during combat, giving you more options than simply relying on basic attacks.

These skills require EP, which is represented by the blue orbs just above your health bar. You can gain EP by performing basic attacks, so don’t be afraid to mix basic attacks into your combat instead of constantly trying to use skills.

Using Aniimo skills also fills their Ultimate Attack meter. Once the meter is full, you can unleash a powerful attack that can deal significant damage to enemies.

Make sure to use Ultimate Attacks when you’re struggling during a fight, especially against tougher enemies or when you need a quick burst of damage to turn the battle in your favor.

Pay Attention To Elemental Types

Every Aniimo also has an elemental type, and these elements play an important role in combat. Certain elements are stronger against others, meaning you can deal more damage by using the appropriate Aniimo against an enemy.

For example, Water is effective against Fire, so using a Water-type Aniimo against a Fire-type enemy can give you an advantage. The same principle applies to the other elemental matchups, so you should pay attention to an enemy’s element before deciding which Aniimo to use.

This is another reason why you shouldn’t build your party around only one type of Aniimo. Having different elemental types available gives you more options when facing enemies with different weaknesses.

The pictures below showcases the counterpicks to both Aniimo elemental counters and spatial relations provided by the game itself. This table will be your best friend when struggling against some bosses.

Building A Balanced Party

With everything above in mind, you should try to build a party that gives you options both in and out of combat. Exploration abilities are important when moving through the world, while combat roles and elemental types can make a major difference during battles.

At the very least, you should have one Healer and one DPS Aniimo in your party. The Healer will help keep you and your companions alive, while the DPS Aniimo can focus on dealing consistent damage.

It is even better if your party includes different elemental types, as this gives you a better chance of exploiting enemy weaknesses. From there, you can fill the remaining slots with Aniimo that provide Break, Support, or Regen abilities depending on what you need.

The more Aniimo you capture, the more options you will have, so don’t be afraid to change your party based on the area you’re exploring or the enemies you’re about to face.

Make The Most Of Exploration

Exploration has its own gacha-like system that you should make sure to use regularly. You will spend Primegy to take part in Exploration activities, and this resource replenishes over time, so you don’t want to let it sit at its maximum.

Make sure to use your available Primegy whenever you can, especially if you know you won’t be checking the game again for a while. This allows it to keep replenishing instead of wasting potential charges.

Activate Branches And Spend Lumin Amber

Branches are marked by a branch icon and must be activated first before you can make full use of them.

Activating a Branch not only reveals the Blooms around the area, but also unlocks another section of the map, making them important points of progression during exploration.

Once a Branch has been activated, you can spend the Lumin Amber you have gathered to unlock different benefits.

These can include increasing your Aniimo catch chance, increasing Sparkling rates, changing the weather, and other features that become available as you progress further.

Use Your Skill Points

Exploring the world and taking part in different activities will reward you with EXP, which helps increase both your character’s level and the levels of your Aniimo. The more you explore and complete activities, the more EXP you will accumulate, allowing you and your Aniimo to become stronger as you progress.

As you level up, you will also earn Skill Points that can be spent from the Character menu to unlock new Active and Passive skills. These skills give your character additional abilities and can make both exploration and combat easier.

Check Every Reward Tab

Since Aniimo is a free-to-play gacha game, you will quickly notice that there are a lot of different tabs and menus to keep track of, which can feel extremely overwhelming at first.

These tabs track your progression throughout the world, the Aniimo you have gathered, and various other activities. Many of them also feature challenges and milestones that reward you with useful items, including EXP Pods and different currencies.

The best thing you can do is check every tab that has a notification icon. That little red notification is often a sign that you have something to claim, whether it is a reward for completing a challenge, reaching a milestone, or simply progressing through the game.

There are quite a few of these menus, so it is easy to overlook some free rewards. Here are some of the ones we have found so far:

Events

The Events tab is one of the first places you should check. Events often come with their own challenges and progression rewards, giving you plenty of opportunities to pick up free EXP Pods and currencies simply by playing the game.

Tutorials

Don’t ignore the Tutorials tab after learning the basics. As you progress and unlock new features, additional tutorial objectives can become available, and completing them can reward you with useful items.

Institute Guide

The Institute Guide is another tab worth checking regularly. It tracks your progression through the game’s different systems and activities, with rewards available as you reach certain milestones.

Elite Training

The Elite Training tab is another easy source of rewards and is worth checking whenever it has a notification. It features special requests and milestones related to the Aniimo you collect and level up.

These can include requests to capture specific Aniimo or leveling milestones that reward you for improving your Aniimo. Make sure to check this section regularly, as you may already have completed some of its requirements without realizing it.
