Octopath Traveler 0: Complete Farming Guide

This guide explains how to maximize farming efficiency for XP, JP, leaves, and nuts in Octopath Traveler 0. Using the methods below, it is possible to reach maximum character levels, maximum JP, accumulate millions of leaves, and fully nut all characters by the end of the game.

Core Farming Characters (XP & Leaves)

Your farming setup revolves around two primary characters that should always be paired together.

Bargello – First Turn Controller & Damage Dealer

Bargello is responsible for controlling turn order and clearing fights instantly.

Required setup:

  • Equip skills that allow your entire party to act before enemies
  • Build Bargello for maximum possible damage
  • Goal: One-shot all regular mobs

This is extremely important because food buffs are turn-limited, and Bargello’s Turn 0 action from “Step Ahead” still counts as a turn.

Ludo – Resource Multiplier

Ludo is responsible for maximizing post-battle rewards.

Required skills:

  • Steal
  • Collect
  • Snatch (Support Skill Mastery)

Highly recommended:

  • Borrow BP Mastery, which helps when using Max Negotiation

At max boost, Ludo will:

  • Double XP
  • Double leaves
    at the end of battle.

Setup for Remaining Party Members

For all other characters in your party:

Skills

  • Steal
  • Collect
  • Snatch (Support Skill Mastery)

Final Skill Slot

  • Equip a high-damage skill if the character has access to one
    • This helps secure the Overkill Bonus at the end of combat

Support Skills

  • Distribute the recommended support skills across the party however you prefer
  • Some characters may already have one of these support skills naturally, allowing you to equip something else
  • Patient Support Skill Mastery is strongly recommended

Statues, Food Buffs, and Accessories

Statues

  • Use the highest rarity statue you currently own
  • If you need more gold or silver ingots, acquire them beforehand (separate farming method)

Food Buffs

  • Use the Fruit Tray
    • Provides +50% XP
    • Buff duration: 20 turns

⚠️ Important:

  • Bargello’s Turn 0 action counts as a turn
  • This is why one-shotting enemies is mandatory, otherwise the buff will expire too quickly

Accessories & Encounter Optimization

Equip the following:

  • Two Alluring Ribbons → increases enemy spawn rate
  • Lucky Coin
  • More Rare Monsters Mastery

This combination greatly increases Holy Cait encounter rates.

Holy Cait Rewards (with all bonuses active):

  • ~60,000 XP per encounter
  • 350,000+ leaves
  • Requires:
    • Steal
    • Collect
    • Negotiate
    • End-of-battle bonuses

Pre-Farming Checklist

Before entering battle:

  • Use all available Training Ground slots
  • Recruit villagers that provide:
    • Elite XP
    • Elite JP

These bonuses stack with all other farming modifiers.

Example Battle Flow

A typical farming battle should look like this:

  • Bargello opens
  • Enemies are immediately pressured
  • Steal, collect, negotiate where applicable
  • Finish quickly to secure overkill bonuses
  • Battle ends in a single turn whenever possible

Speed and consistency are the goal—no prolonged fights.

Alternative Leaves Farming Methods

Sheep Fleece Farming

This method is best used if you do not yet have access to the Enhancement Nut Seed.

Requirements:

  • A character capable of obtaining Sheep Fleece
  • Fodder Production maxed out

Rewards:

  • Each Sheep Fleece sells for 6,000 leaves
  • A full stack sells for just under 600,000 leaves

⚠️ Drawbacks:

  • Sheep fleece occupies storage slots
  • This reduces nut gains unless you empty storage every few fights

Tavern of Nil Farming (Late Game)

Unlock Requirements:

  • Defeat the Super Boss
  • Build the Strange House

Method:

  • Enter the Tavern of Nil
  • Farm Holy Cait and Octop King
  • Collect leaves
  • Flee immediately after collecting

Rewards:

  • 150,000 leaves per encounter
  • ~750,000 leaves every 5 minutes
  • ~9 million leaves per hour

Limitations:

  • No items available to steal
  • Town reputation must be reset after 5 attempts

JP Farming (Fastest and Simplest Method)

JP is the easiest resource to farm.

Required Setup

  • Maximum 3 characters
  • Any bow user equipped with:
    • Arrow of Fortune

One HP Build

The Arrow of Fortune user must run a 1 HP build:

  • Assistance Amulet
    • Increases damage the lower your HP
  • Fortitude
    • Boosts attack skill potency at low HP

Optional damage accessories:

  • Finisher Claws
  • Tears of Hope

Support skill slots can be filled with anything that increases damage.

Additional Requirement

  • Main character must have Ultimate Charge Mastery

JP Farming Strategy

  1. Pair Bargello with the main character
  2. Bargello usually acts first
  3. Use Defend with Bargello
  4. On the next turn:
    • Use the Dancer’s Ultimate on the Arrow of Fortune user
  5. Arrow of Fortune now targets every enemy
  6. Repeat until desired JP is reached

Nut Farming (Endgame Only)

Nut farming is only possible near the very end of the game.

Requirements

  • Enhancement Nut Seed
  • Fields unlocked

Optimization Setup

  • Assign:
    • Grand Farmer
    • Fertilizer Procure

Always pay for fertilizer:

  • Guarantees extra nut yield
  • Speeds up nut production

Farming Loop

  • Complete battles as quickly as possible
  • Nut storage fills gradually
  • Check storage:
    • Every 20–30 minutes
    • Or whenever convenient

Final Notes

By combining:

  • Optimized party setups
  • Proper food buffs
  • Rare encounter manipulation
  • Late-game farming locations

You can:

  • Max all character levels
  • Cap JP efficiently
  • Generate millions of leaves
  • Fully nut every character
