Welcome to Into Indie Games’ solo player guide for Forest Escape: Last Train.
As you make your brave escape through the monster-infested forest, having your friends watching your back can make the experience easier. But that doesn’t mean you can’t play if you’re on your own. While the tasks can be a bit harder, with certain strategies, you too can face off against the Warden and make your escape. This guide will show you how.
You’ll find additional content for the game in our guides hub.

Lower the Difficulty

When you’re playing as a group, ramping up the difficulty can be a fun way to add some extra challenge to your run, but when you’re on your own, you need every bit of advantage you can get. Consider lowering the difficulty when you create a new game, at least the first couple of times.
The puzzles will still be the same, but the overall enemy difficulty will be much lower. Once you get used to all the puzzles and the locations, you can increase the difficulty to make it more challenging.
Take Your Time in Each Location

At its current state, Forest Escape: Last Train isn’t a long game. You collect six Warden Keys by clearing missions in the different zones, and once you have them, you travel south to the Warden location where you defeat the boss to escape the forest.
However, when you’re playing solo, make sure you spend some time exploring the forest, mining up extra resources, and collecting everything you can to give yourself the edge before the final battle.
Invest in Respawn Tokens & Aid Kits

Respawn Tokens and Aid Kits are the two main resources you should be stocking up on when you’re playing solo. In a party, when you die, your teammate has a chance to revive you. However, on a solo run, if you die, you need a Respawn Token to revive.
You can buy Respawn Tokens from the Shops found near different locations. These cost around 40 Gold a pop, but if you’ve been taking your time while moving and farming up all the Gold Ores, you should be able to buy a few of these easily on a run.
The same rule applies for Aid Kits. Since they heal you back to full health, having a few Aid Kits handy at all times is extremely important when you’re on a solo run.
Focus on Train Defense

Train Defense is a fun part of the game, but when you’re playing solo, it becomes almost essential. You should start working on it as soon as you get a couple of Hammers in your inventory.
Don’t save your Hammers for the late game. Instead, the moment you find some Hammers, use them to start building up the cage around your train cart.
Check the Easy Locations First

At the current state of the game, there are 13 different locations for you to solve in Forest Escape: Last Train. Since you’re playing on your own, it’s important to prioritize which locations you want to hit first.
Carousel, Melody Hut, Bootball Court, and Tower are pretty easy to solve on your own. So you should check these locations first to see if you can grab the Warden Keys.
On the other hand, locations like Stepfall Bridge, Trippy Grid, and Iris Lake can be very hard to complete on your own, even on easy difficulty. Try these locations once you have enough resources stocked to make your life easier.
Be Wary of Mimics

Mimics can be extremely annoying when you’re playing as a group, but much easier to identify when you’re playing solo. But that doesn’t mean they are not a problem to be dealt with quickly. Mimics usually spawn near your Train.
So when you’re out clearing a mission and return to the train to find a Mimic dancing on your Locomotive, take it down quickly. Use Rocks from a distance if you’ve got enough to spare. Getting in close means risking taking unnecessary damage. When you’re on a solo run, every bit of health matters.
