How To Pickpocket
To learn Pickpocketing, you’ll first have to find Fingers in the Old Camp. You can find him in the alley near the Arena, behind Scatty’s hut.
Once you’ve completed his quest for stealing Scatty’s ring from his chest, he’ll be available to teach you some skills. You can also improve your pickpocket and lockpicking skills by going to him.

Fingers asks for 100 Ore Nuggets, as well as 10 LP, which can be obtained by leveling up. Once you’ve got the required resources, go to Fingers and ask him to teach you how to pick pockets.
After you do that, Fingers will explain how to pickpocket effectively. Now, you have to find your targets.

To pick your target, you’ll have to find the ones that have a pouch on them. Diggers, naturally, don’t have a pouch on them, so you can’t do anything to them. Most Wardens and Shadows can be pickpocketed.
Once you’ve found an unsuspecting target, approach them and focus on their pouch. An option to interact with the pouch will appear with a bar surrounding it. The bar represents your chances of success.

Press the corresponding button, and you’ll be able to pick an item out of the target’s pocket. It can either be Ore Nuggets or some other item.
However, be wary that if you fail, you might get attacked by anyone near you and end up losing more than what you got through the pickpocketing.

Increasing your dexterity and your target having a lower dexterity can drastically improve your chances of a successful pickpocket attempt. Furthermore, if you’re sneaky and no one can see you, it will also improve the chances.

How To Lockpick
Lockpicking can be very challenging due to the scarcity of lockpicks. You can still buy them from fencers, such as Fisk and Mordrag.
It is a skill that you have from the beginning, so you don’t have to learn it from anyone. However, you can still improve your lockpicking skills by going to rangers, such as Fingers inside the Old Camp.

Certain chests and doors are locked. You’ll have to use the lockpicking skill to open them up.
The lockpicking minigame requires you to balance all the plates so that the pins are aligned in the middle of each plate. If all the pins are raised, the lock will open.

Each plate has seven slots. Some easier locks have fewer plates. Additionally, some of the plates on the lock move other plates as well.
Now, if you move a plate, but it has no place to go, or any of the plates that move with it are blocked, you won’t be able to move it, and it will count as a mistake. You can commit this mistake twice before the lockpick breaks.

One trick is to move the plates in such a way that all of them are at least one slot away from the edges in the beginning, so that you can figure out which plate moves the other plates with it.
In most cases, at least one of the plates will be independent, and you’ll have to use it to solve the rest of the puzzle. Move all the plates in such a way that their middle slots are aligned with the middle slots of other plates. The pin will become raised for the plate if it’s in the correct position.

Experiment around with the idea, and you’ll find the correct configuration to pick any lock. Additionally, make sure no one can see you. If you get caught while lockpicking, you should immediately step away, or the NPCs may become hostile.

This concludes the guide for Gothic 1 Remake.
